LET’S GET SOME RUNS!: The Hooks scored 10 runs on 12 hits in Tuesday’s win at Tulsa. The 10 runs were the most scored by Corpus Christi since an 11-6 triumph over Midland on July 11. Despite winning 6 of their last 7 games, the Hooks’ offense has been relatively quiet lately. CC only averaged 3.3 runs per game during the past homestand at Whataburger Field. On the season, Corpus Christi is averaging 5 runs per contest. AUGUST ARMS: Corpus Christi’s pitching staff owns a 3.00 ERA and a .212 BAA in 12 August contests, striking out 116 against 29 walks during the stretch. During the homestand vs. Tulsa and Springfield, the Hooks allowed 2 runs or less in 5 of the 6 contests. In the 3-game sweep of Tulsa, Hooks hurlers permitted only 4 runs on 15 hits. The Hooks lead the Texas League in team ERA (3.40) and strikeouts (1,154). CC is averaging 9.7 strikeouts per-9 innings as a staff. SETTING THE STANDARD: With an overall record of 74-46 (.617), the Hooks own the best overall mark in Double-A. It’s the 3rd-best winning percentage in Minor League Baseball. Only the Bowling Green Hot Rods (77-43, .642) and Lakewood Blue Claws (75-44, .630) have higher winning percentages. CH-CH-CHANGES: The Hooks have experienced remarkable success this season despite significant roster turnover. Of the 9 position players and 3 pitchers who appeared on Opening Night on April 5, just 3 of those 12 players are still on Corpus Chris-ti’s roster (Randy Cesar, Stephen Wrenn, and Ryne Birk). There are 10 players currently on Corpus Christi’s roster who also were on the Opening Day roster. DAWSON NAMED PLAYER OF WEEK: OF Ronnie Dawson has been tabbed Texas League Player of the Week, league pres-ident Tim Purpura announced Monday. Dawson went 9-for-20 with seven runs scored, one double, two home runs, and three RBIs this past week. The Grove City, Ohio, native was a triple shy of the cycle Saturday night against Springfield. Selected by the Astros in the second round of the 2016 draft out of Ohio State, Dawson is hitting .333 with a 1.032 OPS in 12 games since being called up from the Carolina League. Of his 15 Texas League hits, seven have gone for extra bases: three doubles, one triple, and three home runs. He was tied for the Carolina League lead with 29 stolen bases at the time of his Dou-ble-A promotion. CESAR TO DL: IF Randy Cesar has been placed on the 7-day disabled list, retroactive to August 11. Cesar was removed from Friday night’s game after 2 at-bats. Cesar leads the Hooks with a .313 batting average in 103 games this season, collecting 10 home runs and 59 RBI. TORO TEARING IT UP: IF Abraham Toro is heating up, going 8-for-15 with a home run, two double and 3 RBI in his last 4 games. Toro, who hit just .171 in 82 at-bats during July after joining the Hooks, is now batting .351 in 37 at-bats during August. HOME COOKING: The Hooks completed a 5-1 homestand on Sunday afternoon with which matches the longest home win-ning streak in team history. The Hooks have the 2nd-best home record in Minor League Baseball at 44-19 (.698). The Lake-wood BlueClaws, Philadelphia's South Atlantic League affiliate, are 40-17 (.702) at their home ballpark. The Hooks have played 18 series at Whataburger Field, winning 14 while splitting 3. Their lone home series setback was a 4-gamer vs. Frisco July 15-18. ENCARNACION ARRIVES: The Astros have promoted 1B Luis Encarnacion to Corpus Christi from Tri-City of the New York-Penn League. Encarnacion started at first base for the Hooks on Sunday, going 0-2 with a hit by pitch. Encarnacion, signed by the Astros as a minor league free agent this past March, was hitting .204 with 7 home runs and 25 RBIs in 34 games for the Valley Cats. The 21-year-old out of San Juan de la Maguana, Dominican Republic, was released by the Phillies during spring training. FALL BALL: Congratulations to Hooks hitting coach Troy Snitker and athletic trainer John Gregorich on their assignments to the Arizona Fall League. Snitker and Gregorich will work for the Scottsdale Scorpions, who feature prospects from the Astros, Red, Mets, Phillies, and Giants system. The AFL schedule begins October 9.
