Pastor’s Notes

This weekend with the 4th of July upon us, I pray that you will celebrate safely with family and friends, to embrace more deeply our freedom as Americans and as Catholics. The Scripture readings this Sunday all point toward the liberating power of God. The Prophet Zechariah speaks of a king riding on a humble donkey; banishing war and proclaiming peace to all nations. St. Paul to the Romans declares how living life in the Spirit destroys the sins of the flesh and death itself. Even Jesus Himself in the Gospel invites all who labor and are heavy-burdened, to find rest and freedom in His yoke/cross. What a blessing it is to see the people of God coming back to Church, to believe in the power of faith over fear. We have set up new dates in July for Masses of First Holy Communion, as well as Confirmation, for the children and young people of our parish. Obviously these celebrations had to be cancelled in the Spring. But all the candidates have been prepared by our wonderful Religious Education leaders and catechists, and the kids are excited to rejoice in these Sacraments! Confessions for penitent persons and Anointings of the Sick are also being offered to all the Catholic faithful. More and more, we are seeing funeral services and Masses for our beloved ones who have died. One of the saddest tragedies of COVID-19 was when people were dying alone, without family members to surround them as they breathed their last breath. Many times we were not able to offer them a funeral Mass; with only outdoor wakes, drive-by church blessings, and graveside ceremonies being given. You will see a list in this bulletin of the faithful departed souls during the height of the Coronavirus, who in some way are connected to our parish. We wish to offer Memorial Masses for their eternal rest, if any family wishes to gather in church to remember these holy deceased ones in their life time. Please call the office for details, and to set up a date and time for the Mass. Also if you know of other parishioners who died and are not on the list, let us know. Please pray for them in the silence and sanctuary of your souls. What a wonder it is to see more and more people returning to “live Masses” each day, while we continue to post “virtual Masses” on the internet for those parishioners at home. I could see tears in the eyes of some receiving Holy Communion for the first time in three months. We will continue with new/temporary protocols of Communion reception after the final blessing at all Masses. And of course we will stay for a while with the new triple disciplines: wearing a mask; purifying your hands; keeping socially distant. May we always hunger more deeply for the gift and grace of the Eucharist, as we become who we are, and create what we do as the Body of Christ: Corpus Christi! Yours in Christ, Father Malcolm

HAPPY 4th of JULY Let us celebrate our freedom as Americans on this 244th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, along with our religious liberty as Roman Catholics through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ!! 2020 is proving a profound year for all people in our country, in search for a deeper sense of true freedom: freedom from the pandemic and death; freedom from racism and prejudice; freedom from sin and evil. Then God Bless America!

God bless America, land that I love; Stand beside her, and guide her,

Through the night, with the light from above. From the mountains, to the praries; From the oceans, white with foam;

God bless America, my home sweet home; God bless America, my home sweet home.

Help us Support A Place to Call Home

Charles spent 17 years deployed at military bases throughout the world. Returning home after an incident involving nerve gas, he began struggling with debilitating bouts of anxiety and depression. His circumstances worsened and he couldn’t maintain a steady job. Charles moved in with his mother, but within a year she died and his childhood home went into foreclosure. Catholic Charities’ Project Veterans’ Independence, which guides homeless veterans into permanent housing so they can live independently and have access to support networks that get them back on their feet, reached out and helped Charles. “I was out of the service, out of a family, out of a job and out of a home. Catholic Charities found me and helped me to not only find a place to live - but they helped me to turn my life around.”

- Charles, honorably discharged US Veteran

Português DÉCIMO QUARTO DOMINGO DO TEMPO

COMUM

Ninguém conhece o Filho senão o Pai e ninguém conhece o Pai senão o Filho e aquele a quem o Filho o quiser revelar.
