JOURNAL OF ENDODONTICS I VOL 8, NO 2, FEBRUARY 1982 was discussed. Several recommendations made by legal counsel regarding actions the Association can take to create a favorable "climate" for deductibility of a spouse's convention expenses included: 1) initiating Auxiliary programs related to the running of an AAE member's business; 2) promot- ing interaction between Auxiliary mem- bers and conference attendees who might be responsible for referral business for the AAE member; 3) encouraging spouse par- ticipation in AAE conference programs and including messages to this effect in meeting agendas and promotional materi- al; 4) identifying social activities in terms that reflect the opportunity for informal business contact rather than pure socializ- ing; 5) encouraging AAE members to keep complete expense records and maintain logs detailing functions and activities in which they and their spouses participated to further AAE member's business pur- poses. The Board discussed at length those resolutions before the ADA House of Del- egates that were of particular interest and concern to the Association and determined what should be the position of the Associa- tion with regard to them. The Board also considered the question of issuing certificates of membership in the Association. At the present time, the Asso- ciation issues certificates of service for past officers and directors, but does not issue membership certificates to individual members. An analysis will be done to determine the cost of issuing membership certificates. Several proposals received to date for the publication of the Journal of Endodonties were reviewed. As additional proposals are forthcoming, the Executive Committee will make a preliminary decision after detailed review of all proposals. The final decision regarding the selection of a publisher will be made by the Board of Directors at its April meeting.
