Cost of Kids CollegeClasses are priced individually and you’ll receive a discount for each subsequent class your childenrolls in for each session. Classes are priced:

One class: $75 per classTwo classes, same session: $65 per class - $130 totalThree classes, same session: $60 per class - $180 totalFour classes, same session: $50 per class - $200 total

There is no additional discount for enrolling in more than one session or for enrolling more thanone child.

The price includes round-the-clock supervision by Kids College staff, instructors and aides whohelp the instructors in each classroom and escort all students to their next class. Some classes havea small materials fee added on for supplies:

Financial aid and scholarships are not available for Kids College. All fees must be paid at time ofregistration. Availability of classes is on a first-come, first-served basis. We are unable to hold slotsin specific classes unless you have paid the enrollment fee for desired classes.

Drop off and pick upAll students must be dropped off and picked up in parking lot # 7 at the Kids College check-instation, located in the large parking lot south of campus on Meadow Lane. (We are not responsiblefor any child that arrives prior to 8:00 a.m. and/or who has not been checked-in with KidsCollege staff). All students attending Kids College must be checked-in and out on a daily basiswith Kids College staff.

Students may be dropped off as early as ½ hour before the start of their first class period(example: 8:00 a.m. for a class that starts at 8:30, 9:45 a.m. for a class that starts at 10:15, etc.).Your child must be picked up within 15 minutes of the end of their class. If your child is signedup for two class periods that are not back-to-back (i.e. 8:30-10:00 and 12:15-1:45) they must bepicked up at the end of each class period (given the example, your child must be picked up by10:15 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.). Kids College is not able to provide day care services for childrennot enrolled during a specific class period.

Refund PolicyOur program does not offer refunds, transfers or credits in fairness to children and their parentswho have committed to our program and signed up on a first-come, first-served basis. Be sure tolook over our selection of classes/camps and choose carefully.

It’s once again time for Kids College. Kids College provides educational andfun learning opportunities for children and teens, entering grades Kindergartenthrough 8th (ages 5 to 13). Each class/camp is designed to teach new andmeaningful skills, develop new interests and hobbies, excite students aboutlearning, as well as provide an opportunity for them to explore possible careers.Kids College classes/camps are offered during the summer months and arefee-based and not-for-credit.

General Information for KidsKids College is designed to give students a unique learning experience

right on a college campus! For one, two or all three weeks studentswill have a chance to take challenging and enriching classesto stimulate their curiosity and reinforce their basic skillswhile having fun.

Kids College ScheduleKids College 2012 program is being offered Monday toThursday (no classes on Fridays), the weeks of:

There are four classes in each day, with 15 minute breaksbetween classes and a supervised half-hour lunch and playtime. Lunch is not provided; students must bring a sacklunch that does not need to be refrigerated. Students willnot be allowed to leave campus for lunch. Students shouldalso bring two snacks for the breaks.

Register for Kids College on our website, www.cos.edu/communityed . Click on the Kids Collegelogo and the Register for Kids College link. Each class has a maximum number of slots availableand classes may fill quickly. Class registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Don’t have a computer – you may visit our office at 4136 N. Mooney Blvd, Tulare (halfway between Visalia and Tulare) and use one of our computers to register.

Classroom/Campus ConductKids College students must meet program standards of good conduct and behavior while attendingany class/camp at College of the Sequoias (or off-site location). Good conduct and behaviorincludes courteous attention, good manners and careful handling of equipment being used.Students must follow instructions given to them by a teacher or staff member. Failure to followthis code of conduct may result in dismissal from the class/camp with no refund from theKids College or Camp Program.

Registration:Once you’ve selected the classes you would like to take, go to our website at www.cos.edu/communityedand click on the Kids College logo. you will find a link to our online registration site. Please haveyour credit/debit card ready when registering as you will be required to pay in order to completeyour registration. All fees must be paid at the time of registration. Availability of classes is on afirst-come, first-served basis. We are unable to hold slots in specific classes unless you have paidthe enrollment fee for desired classes.

“Days, Weeks, Months, and Memories!” (entering grades 2nd – 8th)*Everyone loves calendars, but can you imagine how great it would be to have a calendar you created yourself onthe computer? You can use photographs or clip art, or whatever you want to create a personalized calendarthat you will enjoy, or a special calendar for friends and family. You can even add birthdays and other specialoccasions on the dates. There’s no limit to how special a calendar that you made can be! Bonus – you’lllearn a bit of PowerPoint, which comes in handy for all sorts of projects. Instructor: Becky Bullough

“Digital Scrapping” (entering grades 5th – 8th)*What are you doing with all those great digital pictures you are taking? In this digital scrapbooking class youwill learn how to put together your very own digital scrap book. All you will need to do is bring your digitalpictures and away we go. Scrapping like there’s no tomorrow, without any scissors. At the completion of thiscourse you will have an amazing professionally produced scrapbook which will be your keepsake forever.Instructor: Josette Hendrick

“Journey Through Time Using Power Point” (entering grades 5th – 8th)Students will learn about interesting, famous, and exciting historical people by researching them through theinternet and designing mind-boggling PowerPoints. Students will learn not only about key figures throughouttime, but will learn the skills to make PowerPoint presentations simply mesmerizing. Some of these skillsinclude video clip insertion, sound clip insertion, flashing titles, flying texts, spinning pictures and so much more.Instructor: Gary Roldan

“Making Movie Magic” (entering grades 5th – 8th)*Have you ever wanted to make a movie? It’s easy with software that comes free with your computer system!You can use photographs, clip art, video clips, and sound to create a movie. Each picture can come into theframe with dramatic style and you can organize your pictures in whatever order you want to create yourmasterpiece. Add music or other sounds and you have an exciting movie to show your friends and family.Instructor: Becky Bullough

“PowerPoint Razzle Dazzle” (entering grades 5th – 8th)*Learn to use Microsoft PowerPoint to create fun and exciting presentations that will impress your friends,family, not to mention your teachers! Add videos, animations, music and fun sounds.Instructor: Becky Bullough

“Puppies and Kittens and Cows, Oh My!” (entering grades K-8th)*Kids can have tons of fun using PowerPoint to make slide shows with pictures and sounds and motion. Makeyour cats meow and your dogs bark, your bees buzz and fly around the screen. There’s so much you can dowith the PowerPoint program that it’s a blast just playing with all the special effects, plus have shows tobring home to share with family and friends. You can make shows about anything you want, using photos ofyour own or photos and clip art available online. The only problem with PowerPoint for the kids is theynever want to stop. “Storytelling – Digitally” (entering grades 5th – 8th)*Learn how to tell a story using still images, audio files and video clips found using commonly available Internetsearch engines, websites such as YouTube and Google Video. This can be your story, fiction, current events,historical-whatever your imagination creates. Instructor: Becky Bullough

“Type like the Wind” (entering grades 2nd – 8th)Have fun and learn to type all at the same time! Touch typing (keyboarding) is a skill that will help throughoutyour life! Each key on the keyboard should be controlled by certain fingers to help you type like the windwithout looking at the keys! We’ll use typing games to help us learn! Instructor: Becky Bullough

“Foodies Only” (entering grades 2nd – 4th)*If you LOVE to eat and always wanted to learn to make your own dish, now you can! In 4 days, you willenjoy baking your own chocolate-y brownies, making cheesy pizza, and cooking creamy pasta. You willgain kitchen skills while preparing your favorite foods. You will learn about different ingredients and createwonderful flavors that you have always imagined. Instructor: Mary Grace Hallare

“Fun Bites” (entering grades K-1st)*Do you like meatballs, pizza, and chocolate-y brownies? In four days, you will enjoy eating and makingthem. You actually learn to work in the kitchen where you cook your favorite treats. You get to use realkitchen tools and eat real, delicious food. Instructor: Mary Grace Hallare

“Little Chefs” (entering grades 5th – 6th)*Discover the wonders inside the kitchen. Imagine a place where you can have unlimited toppings and cheesein your pizza. How about eating as much chocolate goodness as you’d like? Yes? In four days, you will learnto whisk, knead, bake, and cook your favorite foods. You will explore different ingredients that result inamazing flavors that you will never forget. Instructor: Mary Grace Hallare

“Quick Gourmet Kitchen” (entering grades 7th – 8th)*Discover all the fun and excitement in the kitchen. This is the chance to learn how to make classicaldishes and desserts. You will gain culinary skills such as blanching, sautéing, kneading, and baking. Youwill explore different ingredients and develop amazing flavors that you always wanted to create. In fourdays, you will be full with your favorite foods like pizza with extra cheese and chocolate-y brownies.Instructor: Mary Grace Hallare

“Angry Bird”-A-Mania… Learn to Draw and Paint your Favorite Game Characters (entering grades 2nd – 8th)*Love Angry Birds? Has that game lodged into your brain often and you really enjoy the comical stars andfield of characters? Come join our class as we use our imagination to create our own version of an angry birdto knock out the pigs or maybe something else you choose. We all like the bird characters. Learn to draw andpaint a poster of your favorite bird and take it home. Instructor: Wayne Wilson

Craft-tastic! (entering grades K – 4th)*Craft-tastic is a fun new class that teaches creative ways to do art with paper crafting. You will create art usingthe mediums of origami, rubber stamping, and a surprise way to make stationary. Students will take homeprojects and have fun learning to be creative, and working with paper can be fun. Instructor: Lauren Stanger

“Create a Masterpiece (or four)!” (entering grades K -8th)*Become the next famous artist while having fun and listening to music with Mrs. Leonard. Learn aboutart and make an art project “Crayon and Watercolors”, “Name Symmetry”, “Pastels”, and “Chalk Art”.Instructor: Becky Bullough

Fun shapes and stickers, funny captions, special memories kept forever in a keepsake scrapbook.Themed pages are always fun to do – Birthdays! Vacations! First day of school! Band! Cheerleading! Christmasor Summer fun! There’s no limit to what you can scrapbook. Bring your photos and we’ll provide the fancy scissors,glue, etc. to help you create a one-of-a-kind scrapbook. “ASL (American Sign Language) Rocks” (entering grade K-1st & 2nd – 4th)*Learn about and embrace a culture so unlike your own! Have you ever wondered what it would be like touse your hands and face to communicate rather than your voice? If so, then this class is for you! ASLRocks will teach you the fundamentals of American Sign Language. You will learn basic visual/gesturalcommunication skills and grammatical structures with an emphasis on receptive and expressive skills toenable you to engage in basic conversations with Deaf people. Topics will include: basic grammar andvocabulary, fingerspelling, numbers and cultural information related to the Deaf community. Explore acommunity with a vast richness in culture and history. Sign up with a friend and you will have theopportunity to practice yours skills outside of the classroom which will yield better results in your fluency!Instructor: Catrina Campbell Gates

Community EducationRegistration and General InformationCommunity Education classes are short-term, not-for-credit, fee-based courses, workshops andtraining programs. The program is self-supporting from class fees, receiving no funds from COSor the State of California, and is separate from the academic offerings of the College. Collegecredit is not offered for any Community Education class, and in most cases, there are no grades.Unless noted in the class title or description, classes are for students ages 18 and up.

Programs offer a varied array of opportunities for personal growth, professional development,skill improvement, cultural enrichment, and recreational enjoyment.

As all classes are not-for-credit, financial aid is not available for these classes. Private studentloans are available for our Career Step courses and Ed2go Online Career Training (formerly GatlinEducational Services).

Parking:All lots are parking by permit only.

Cancellation & Refund Policy:Unless otherwise noted in the class description, you may cancel your enrollment ten (10) or more daysbefore the beginning of a course to receive a full refund less a processing fee of $10. Requests mustbe submitted in writing and mailed to College of the Sequoias, BICS Training Center, 4136 N. MooneyBlvd., Tulare, CA 93274. The written request should include: the participant's name, social securitynumber, home address, home telephone number, and the course name and number. No refund can beprovided for cancellation without a ten (10) day written notice. Trips: Different refund policies applyto trips and tours. See page ?? for our trip refund policy.

The Division's courses operate on a self-supporting budget based on tuition income. We regret thatthere can be no exceptions to the cancellation policy due to an individual's personal circumstances. The registration fee is refunded in full if the College cancels the class. The Community EducationDepartment reserves the right to cancel a course if not justified by sufficient enrollment. Thedecision to cancel a class is made 3 to 4 days prior to the start of the class. So please register early.If we cancel a class, we will contact you to transfer you to another section (if applicable), orquickly process your refund. If you paid by credit card, your account will be credited. All otherrefunds are sent by mail. Please allow 4 to 6 weeks for processing.

If you have a skill or specialized knowledge to share, we would like to speak to you about teachingpossibilities. A teaching credential is not required, but experience is!

If you are interested in becoming a Community Education Presenter/Instructor please downloadthe proposal form on our website ([email protected]) and follow the directions to get it toour office. If your proposal meets our needs, we’ll call you to schedule an interview.

Class proposals are evaluated and selected on the basis of:• Marketability• Non-duplication• Suitability to the College Mission• Qualifications of presenters• Availability of facilities

(Community Education is a collection of self-supporting, fee-based classes designed to be of interestto residents of our community. These classes and workshops do not provide college credit, but doprovide an opportunity for experiences not otherwise offered by the college.)
