Nadir/limb synergy (see Struthers et al. JGR 2002)

•Assimilation of MLS ozone (limb) & GOME total ozone (nadir)

•Ozone analyses using both geometries are objectively “better” (more consistent with a BLUE) than those using just one or other of the geometries

Co-operation:

•Odin observations for analyses of H2O,O3 & other species (e.g. H2CO, CF2O,HCN,…) -> information on concentrations

•Above species are key for atmospheric photochemistry-> datasets for assimilation into photochemical models & evaluation

•Analyses complemented by lab studies of line shapes of H2O, O3 & other species

Laboratory

• Line shape, broadening, intensities, rate constants, branching ratios

• IR region and MW region with the help of FTIR spectrometer, IR diode lasers, MW sources

• H2CO broadening not measured yet in IR and mm region, N2O, CH3CN (+STEAM), CF2O, CH3Cl, CH3Br if appear in averaged spectra

Interpretation

• the chemistry and photophysics of FC(O)Ox radicals is not well understood part of the chemistry of the stratosphere - precursor CF2O

• HCN model deficit, role of CH3CN

• influence and reactions of CH3Cl, CH3Br, role of radicals CH2Cl, CH2Br
