ADMINISTRATOR’S MESSAGE
Administrator’s Message
Welcome back to another school year. I would like to welcome back all of our families, but I
want to extend a special welcome to all of our new families. We have a number of new families in our
PreK program and in kindergarten. We also have a number of new families that have joined us from
South Corman Park in grade 7, and those that have moved into the area for a variety of reasons. The
school year is off to a great start and I want to welcome you to contact me any time if you have any
questions, comments, or concerns. We are a much stronger school when we all work together.
It has been very busy in the school over the summer, and the construction continues. Although
the project was ahead of schedule, additional structural concerns were discovered and the repairs
are expected to last into October. Our library is open and the newly structured space looks great.
Thanks to the maintenance team and the construction crews for their work on the project. The small
gym remains closed along with the balcony area. As a result, we will need to delay our fall awards
ceremony until the facility is available.
Thank you to Karl Schafer, Emery Salahab, and Contour Developments
for the work they donated for the playground. They installed the 4-way
Multi-Climber that we purchased with the proceeds from the last two fall
suppers. They also installed the Buddy Benches that were donated by PCS
Patience Lake, and Cargill. We are fortunate to have such a supportive
partnership with our businesses and parents.
If you’re looking for another opportunity to meet members of the Clavet community, please
consider attending our third annual Fall Supper. The event is planned for Friday,
September 30th with 2 sittings slated for the evening. Thank you to Crystal
McAra for her leadership in again organizing our fall supper at the school. Last
year the supper sold out and it was a great event. If you haven’t purchased your
ticket yet, you can get them through office. Please see the information in the
newsletter and email reminders for further details. Thanks in advance to all of
the elementary families for your willingness to donate the food items to make this
meal a success. The profits from the event go to support elementary projects.
We continue to search for a format for our Meet the Teacher event that meets the needs of
our school community. We have been tracking attendance and it appears to be steadily declining.
Please take a few minutes to respond to the brief survey we have prepared to collect your feedback.
You can access the survey at the following link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/SGP2CQ8.
We are looking forward to working with you to make this another excellent year at the school.

CURLING Welcome back to a new school year and a new curling season. We will again be curling on
Thursdays at Nutana Curling Club. All grade 9 and younger Clavet curlers will be enrolled in
the Nutana program and work with Nutana instructors and Ms. McKone. The program is
limited to grade 3-9 students only. Grade 10-12 students are encouraged to
contact Curl Saskatoon to join their Sunday leagues. Fees for the season
are $60.00 and payable to Clavet School (not Nutana Curling club). This
amount covers the Nutana program fees, bus rental costs and some
equipment. Buses have been booked for all dates. Buses will leave Clavet
School on scheduled Thursdays at 3:30. The program will run from 4pm to
5pm on scheduled days. Students will be supervised by teachers and instructed by qualified
instructors from Saskatoon as well as teachers. This introductory program will be a mixture
of drills (initially) and games (eventually) designed to improve technical skills and an
appreciation for the game of curling. Please contact Ms. McKone or Mr. Malainey if you have
any questions, comments or concerns.

students will be supervised daily. This is a volunteer group that we are hoping will
be able to help keep our library open and running smoothly – any parents who would
also like to possibly volunteer their time in the library are welcome to let us know.
Any help would be appreciated. Anyone who has questions or who would like to volunteer are asked to

ORANGE SHIRT DAY Friday, September 30th is a legacy of the St. Joseph Mission residential school
commemoration event which originated in Williams Lake, BC. It is an opportunity to keep the
discussion on all aspects of residential schools happening annually. It is also
an opportunity to set the stage for anti-racism and anti-bullying in the spirit
of reconciliation and hope for generations of children to come. Students and

COMMUNITY NEWS
We are now accepting applications for SUBSTITUTE CARETAKING help. In order to maintain our school
building to the highest possible standard, we require substitute caretaking help in our
school. If you are interested in working on a casual basis, please contact Brian Matisz,
Principal at 306-933-1022 or Randy Willms, Caretaking Supervisor at 306-683-2916, as
soon as possible for more information. Students, parents and community members are
welcome to apply!!
To commemorate National Tree Day on September 21st, the Clavet School Grounds
Committee and Arbor Crest Tree Services will be creating their second tree and shrub
planting on the school grounds. Arbor Crest will donate a tree, provide the mulch and
labour and Extreme Landscaping will donate the soil. Last year’s project received so many
generous donations of trees and shrubs from Mother Earth Greenhouses and the school
community that we have enough for this year. This fall we are specifically looking for a
spruce tree (minimum 5 ft) to add to our planting so if you can help us out please email
Shelley at [email protected].
To prepare for a spring planting project, we are looking for anyone who can help out this
fall with site preparation (spraying and tilling) by providing their labour and equipment as
well as someone who would be willing to provide tree moving services.
The Clavet United Church
holds services each Sunday from
September to July and the church
website can be found at
www.clavetunitedchurch.ca
We are wondering if there is a young
person or an adult who would like to
practice their piano or organ skills
either occasionally or on a regular
basis through music leadership at our
church? This would be voluntary and
not a paid position. Musical selections
are made with our Ministry person.
If you are interested, please contact

Prairie Spirit provides accident
insurance through Industrial Alliance
Insurance that provides insurance cover
if your child has an accident at school
during the school day. Children are also
covered if the accident occurs at a time
when they are involved in any extra-
curricular activities before or after
school hours, including school trips. In
the unfortunate circumstances of
needing this insurance, the school will
need to be notified of the accident
immediately so that they can submit an
incident report to the insurance
company and provide the parent or
guardian with a claim form. The parent
or guardian will need to pay any
expenses initially, then ask the
appropriate medical authority to
complete and sign the form. The parent
will then submit the form directly to
Alliance Insurance. The claim process is
between the parent or guardian and the
insurance company.
Industrial Alliance Insurance does offer
additional KidsPlus Accident Insurance
should you wish to purchase it. Details
can be found in the KidsPlus Accident
Insurance Package.

Brochu or Mr. Pedersen for more information.

please contact me sooner than later before the

activity time, healthy snack time and
reading/homework time. I would like to start in
September 2016. Please contact Rhonda

~ Third Annual Clavet School Fall Supper ~
September 30, 2016
The Clavet School Community Council (SCC) members, along with the support of Clavet School’s elementary families, will proudly host the Third Annual Clavet School Fall Supper. The past two year’s suppers have been a resounding success, raising around $4000 each year for our school!!! This supper will financially benefit elementary projects for Pre-K through to grade 6. We know the elementary kids will enjoy the new rock climbing structure that was just erected for our new school year and purchased with the funds from last year’s supper. This meal will be similar to a tradition that takes place in Clavet School once a year. Every year in our high school grades, each grade has an item each student contributes to for the Christmas supper. For example, each grade 7 student brings a bag of salad. With every grade/student donating one predetermined item, a fabulous Christmas Supper is enjoyed by all high school students and staff. Similarly, with our third annual fall supper, we are keeping the food items each grade brings consistent to last year (ie: Grade 6 students will again bring desserts, while Kindergarten students will once again bring canned goods and/or other easily transportable food items). The Fall Supper is set for September 30, 2016, at Clavet School in the old gym. We need the support and participation of each elementary student to bring a predetermined item (see the note which was sent home with your child on September 9th). Additionally, we are in need of MANY people for 2 or 3 hour shifts to help with meal preparation and clean up duties. The Clavet School Fall Supper is a great opportunity to meet families in the community, to support our elementary school students and projects. Please help us to make this happen!

A limited number of tickets (450) will be pre-sold, with two supper sittings, one at 5:00 p.m. and another at 6:30 p.m. We encourage each family to purchase their tickets early to ensure you get to enjoy this tasty meal! Ticket prices will be:
