This language is es-sential for sharing their thoughts and knowledge in their core classrooms, as well as using appropriate language to ask for assistance from their teachers and classmates. Often times, students forget that language used with their friends at the park is not appropriate in the classroom. Students have also completed the required district beginning of the year assessments. Students are most looking forward to this com-ing week, because they will get the opportunity to evaluatetheirownACCESSdatafromJanuary2016.They will then apply compare and contrast concepts as theygraphtheir2015and2016ACCESSdataagainst Aurora Public Schools re-designation criteria for the 2016/2017 school year. Stu-dents are working on improving their drawing skills, including drawing accurate human facial proportions, drawing from observation and exploring different drawing materials, includ-ing charcoal, conte crayon, and pen and ink. Shortly after the drawing unit, students will start working on the mural and props for the school musical. The mural is located in the cafeteria and is repainted every year to provide a backdrop for each year’s musical.

for students of all abilities to interact, communicate and make art with students they may not have the opportunity to interact with in their non-elective classes. This class benefits general education students by helping build leadership skills, communication skills, patience, and empathy. DLC and ILC participants benefit by getting to interact with peers their own age outside of their usual classroom environment. These students also build social skills, learn how to participate in a general ed classroom and get to make art using a variety of media, including drawing, painting, collage and ceramics.

The class will begin reading Out of My Mind, by Sharon Draper on Monday. In addition, students will use chrome books to read two non-fiction articles and compare the two using compare and contrast language. 8thGradeOrionTeam’sAdvisoryMrs. Chamberlain’s 8th Advisory Class (Orion) is working oncreating a slide show which includes a strategic plan for shaping their future! Students have used the first few weeks of school to realistically look at what they want their life outside of high school to be like. Students are examining where they are going, and how they will get there. The class is comprised of students whose future goals include becoming authors, marine biologists, video game developers, aeronautical engineers, anesthesiologists, attorneys, policemen, photographers, cosmologists,AirForcepilots, militarymechanics, professional athletes, and serving in the armed forces. Nextstepsforstudentswillbetodevelopthreestrategicgoalstomove them forward. Students have also practiced using electronic devices to access their grades and assignments for all their classes. Studentsarerealizingthattheir8thgradeyearisveryimportant,because their academic performance now, will determine the level of Math and English which they are placed into in their first year of high school.
