MEMBER ENGAGEMENT AND SERVICES
Engaged service providers to progress priority programs for 2013/14 including:
Personalised Journey Planning for member businesses: through program matched 45 staff to
public transport (train or bus).
Reviewed Shuttle Buses being run by member businesses to fill a gap in the public transport network or span of services at Macquarie University, Macquarie Park and North Ryde; draft report has been delivered by PB and is currently being reviewed.
Review of Carpool Programs and tools to choose the most suitable program for Connect
Macquarie Park + North Ryde.
Stakeholder Workshops and Consultation
Five workshops were facilitated by Connect with member and potential member businesses, TfNSW and City of Ryde. Key issues were identified by station catchment and program responses were documented as actions for the 2014 -15 Work Plan. These include: shuttle bus / public transport improvements, carpool matching, car sharing and improvements to website and information portal.
29 May a Transport Leadership Forum was conducted at Riverside Corporate Park which was
attended by 15 potential member businesses.
On 25 June 2014 Connect hosted a boardroom lunch with member businesses HR and facilities managers to learn from the experience of Novartis and Optus. A key action from this event was the development of a position description for the ‘business champion' or Travel Coordinator at member businesses and the request for a linkedin group to be established to support Travel Coordinators.
MONITORING AND EVALUATION
State of Transport report
Connect will deliver a ‘State of Transport’ report in Q1 of 2014-15, which will include a summary of current transport services and development plans for the precinct. The report will inform the Connect transport encouragement programs, newsletter and website content. The report will use a two-stage approach to prepare (1) a meta-report of existing reports, BTS data, DAs, transport reports and land use plans – resulting in (2) a recommended programme of traffic and transport counts, network mapping and operational analyses to rectify gaps in our data. RFQ was sent 23 June 2014 and the stage 1 report is anticipated by 23 August 2014.
Macquarie University research collaboration
Professor Daryll Hull at Macquarie University and Graham Pointer from Department of Premier’s and Cabinet submitted an unsolicited research proposal to TfNSW, for City Logistics and last mile freight delivery research. Connect introduced the research team to member business mailroom contacts and sought member support for the research. Researchers propose to look at the short term traffic impacts of just-in-time deliveries in the precinct, including ‘white van’ traffic and parking congestion and attributable impacts by individual / personal online deliveries to work places.

COMMUNICATIONS
A suite of communication tools have been delivered, including:
Transport kiosks fabricated and delivered to 7 member businesses: BOC, Canon, Metcash, Macquarie University Property, Novartis, AMP Shopping Centre with an 8th kiosk serviced by Connect at Optus. The kiosks are a quality construction with an A3 window for marketing campaigns, Transport Handbooks, transport timetables for the busiest bus / train services at that business, City of Ryde’s bike map and the City of Ryde’s Meet Mac Park guides (2,000 have been distributed through the kiosks and welcome kits).
Ninth newsletter was sent on 10 June; it was received by 1100 staff and achieved at 36% click rate to our articles.
Web domain has been renewed for 2 more years.
Next Steps:
To keep pace with member demand, Connect will engage a marketing coordinator to develop the 2014 -15 Marketing Plan and, if appropriate will roll out transport marketing campaigns, newsletters and handbook updates.
ORGANISATIONAL MANAGEMENT
As part of the 29 April Work Planning Day, Connect commissioned a Global Peer Review of Transport Management Associations. The review was based
on a 2009 meta-study of 170 TMAs. The review confirmed that Connect is progressing in line with best practice of other TMAs (delivering similar programs, governance and financial models).
Connect has established policies and governance procedures to engage consultancies for
technical tasks.
On 17 June ‘The Australian Institute of Company Directors’ delivered a governance training day for Connect Board members to help them better understand their legal rights and obligations.
Connect met with City of Ryde to assist the development of Development Controls Plans (DCP) regarding carpooling, car sharing and Work Place Travel Plans. This initiative will be progressed
during 2014-15.

4 HOUSEHOLD CHEMICAL COLLECTION
On Sunday 18 May 2014 Council held the annual Household Chemical Collection at Meadowbank Park Netball Courts carpark. This program is a great way for residents to be responsible in disposing of potentially hazardous chemicals. The service is funded by the EPA and carried out by an organisation called Toxfree. This program has now been running for over ten years and continues to increase in popularity. This year a record number of participants took part with 1297 cars going through the drop off site between the hours of 9.00am to 3.00pm and a total of 48.86 tonnes of hazardous waste collected. The use of additional drop off lanes and traffic management staff helped to ease any temporary traffic flow issues. This is an increase of more than 50 cars and 4 tonnes of material from the previous year. The most common materials collected were water and oil based paints, with a combined 30 tonnes, oil (4.1 t), lead batteries (2.5 t), hydrocarbons/fuels (2.3 t) and gas cylinders/propane (2.1 t). As in previous years participants were surveyed as they entered the gate which enabled us to ascertain that 56% were new attendees. Of the repeat attendees 53% had used the service a year or less ago. The majority of participants found out about the Cleanout day through the internet which includes Council’s webpage, EPA website and social media channels. The majority of other attendees were made aware of the event from the flyer that went out with the rates notice.

Further to my email of 26 June, the State Government’s Herring Road Urban Activation Precinct (UAP) master plan is currently on exhibition for six weeks, closing on 10 August 2014.
The draft master plan is generating considerable interest with Council already fielding media enquiries regarding the plan’s impact on the residents of the Ivanhoe Estate.
