WE ARE SHARING OUR DATA IN EVER GREATER NUMBERS THIS IS CREATING NEW DIMENSIONS AND STRUCTURES, FORCING US TO SEE (AND UNDERSTAND) THINGS IN A WHOLE NEW WAY.

NextTrain uses data on your mobile phone to predict when the next subway train will arrive in real time. The app uses crowdsourced data from riders’ phones’ to trace the progress of a train and predict its arrival on the next station. FigShare claims Scientific publishing as it stands is an inefficient way to do science on a global scale. A lot of time and money is being wasted by groups around the world duplicating research that has already been carried out. “Unless we as scientists publish all of our data, we will never achieve access to the sum of all scientific knowledge.”

ONE LESS POSITIVE IMPLICATION OF THE INCREASING AMOUNT OF DATA COUPLED WITH ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IS THAT WE WILL FACE THE UNEXPECTED LESS AND LESS.

•  WILL WE WITNESS THE EMERGENCE OF A DATA UNDERCLASS, AND COULD THEY EVOLE INTO A PARALLEL POPULATION?

•  DATA IS NOT AS HARMLESS AS IT SEEMS. DATA STORAGE IS ONE OF THE WORLD'S BIGGEST EMITTERS OF CO2, NOT FAR BEHIND AVIATION.

•  BE AWARE OF PARALYSIS CREATED BY DATA OVERLOAD: "NOW THEIR PROBLEM IS THAT THERE'S

IN AN ERA OF CONSUMER COMPARISON APPS, IF YOU CAN'T FIGHT THE ACCESS TO COMPETITIVE DATA, EMPOWER IT. AS WE CREATE A DATA TRAIL EXPECT OUR RECORDS OF THE PAST TO NOT ONLY BE MORE ACCURATE, BUT ALSO REALISTIC. WITH SO MUCH OF OUR LIVES AND BEHAVIOR PREDICTED BY ALGORITHMS WE WILL INCREASINGLY VALUE DISCOVERY, CHANCE AND RANDOMNESS. HELP CONSUMERS FIND A BALANCE BETWEEN INTUITION, GUT FEELINGS AND DATA. IT IS IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER THAT EVEN WITH INCREASING DATA AVAILABILITY, HUMANS WILL NEVER CEASE TO BE EMOTIONAL. BRANDS HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO USE DATA IN A HEARTFELT WAY.
