~ Card of Thanks ~A huge thank you to everyone who sent cards, food, flowers,

made phone calls, and a beautiful sun shine basket from my Stamford Central School family. While I was “under the

weather.”

God bless all of you,Mary Brockway

~ Card of Thanks ~How would one express their appreciation to all who came

to our rescue on January 10, 2009? It was a cold night when we were going home, I was in the passenger seat

reclined all the way back sleeping. My wife was driving and fell asleep. When we came to, there was much damage to the

car and where we went off the road at Sheriff Mills’ place. To our great surprise Sheriff Mills called 911 and came out to assist. He kept asking my wife if there was anyone else in the car. The fact that my wife heard Sheriff Mill’s voice

made her feel secure. Also many people from the Delhi Fire Department, and EMTs came to our aid. That’s not count-

ing State Police and the Sheriff’s Department. As they were assisting us they kept asking us questions to see if we were

conscious to our whereabouts. What would make people want to come out on a cold night to assist someone? It is more than just a sense of duty. It

has to be because of having compassion for people. As they took my wife and myself to O’Connor they showed upmost

concern for us. When I arrived at O’Connor they were quick to determine my injuries and they airlifted me to Bassett in Cooperstown. The crew that airlifted me to Bassett were

not only concerned but efficient on what they needed to do. The love and compassion that was shown to us and care at O’Connor and Bassett is much appreciated by us. For all the people that showed concern and generous gifts from

our jobs, from family, friends, words cannot express what we feel. When we think about all the people involved in our case no matter what their job is, all is greatly valued and

needed.

With much appreciation,Stan and Carol Powers

Charities Can’t Help EveryoneIn 1835, Alexis de Tocqueville’s “Democracy in America” pointed out: “In

a democracy, people get the government they deserve.” Joel Canfield wrote: “The difference between the liberals and myself is that

I don’t trust the government to take care of the poor and needy. Too much tax dollar money gets siphoned off along the route.”

A difference between Mr. Canfield and this liberal is that although I don’t completely trust the government, I’ll not allow myself to become cynical, and over-generalize about our democratic process. It’s my opinion that our government, through our representatives in Congress and the White House, has the potential to be as efficient and effective as we the voters expect them to be. For example, our government developed an atomic weapon, which ended WW II, and put men on the moon.

Charitable organization can’t always take care of the poor and the needy, because these organization sometimes become overwhelmed. The most obvi-ous example, was New Orleans after hurricane Katrina, when both charitable organizations and our government were overwhelmed.

Leading up to the 1929 stock market collapse, three Republican Presidents Warren Harding, Calvin Coolidge and Herbert Hoover had occupied the oval office. Two consecutive terms of Bush and a third term of McCain would have again driven this nation into a catastrophic depression. During the Great De-pression the unemployment rate reached 25% and those charitable organiza-tions attempting to help the needy were completely overwhelmed.

My grandfather was a hard working, skilled carpenter, who was too proud to ask for help. He and my mother survived the end of the winter of 1932-33, by eating turnips and sugar sandwiches. Everyday proud Americans without health insurance put off getting regular checkups or going to an emergency room for treatable illnesses until it’s too late, because our present system doesn’t view healthcare as a right for every American.

Furthermore, too much of our tax dollars got siphoned off, from our troops serving in Iraq, because there are as many “contractors” in Iraq as regular members of our armed forces. Hundreds of billions of emergency ap-propriations never went to support our troops, but instead went directly into the pockets of crony war profiteers, like Blackwater. This is another form of foreign outsourcing, because thousands of these mercenaries were recruited from countries like South Africa and Chile. The privatization of the military is absolutely the worst possible thing for democracy and peace, because it makes endless war a corporate imperative.

Jim O’Leary, Delhi

Greetings To the New Republic of Delaware County..!

Yes... it’s storm ‘CENTRAL’!And my mind is once again spinning with the news of the day.As we are positioned and warned.. we still do not seem to understand.ONE country has..call me Iceland!..Iceland!!..isn’t that too cold to beinhabited? You know..ICE!..COLD..!..No reason to be there! AHHH, but the

people there do exist!..and they just demanded a new government. OHH.. My cup o’ tea! Such a sweet response to ABSOLUTE INSANITY!..(aka. the new world order)

Today my friends, the “Speaker of the House..” Nancy Pelosi ( Third in line for the presidency for those who never heard of Nancy )..has proposed increased funding for “birth control” as a way of reducing the “BURDEN” of states trying to cope with the ever expanding issues of “MONEY”! Less people..less burden to the “chosen” ones! And our messiah is right on board..as he is now embracing (by executive order) the funding of abortion in other countries with our tax dollars. NEXT? .. Euthanasia. I KNOW.. a BIG word that is hard to spell..let alone understand. But for those graduating from our institutions of higher learning, it is justification for killing people of NO VALUE!..you know!! useless eaters! (..AKA.. Grandma and Cousin Jimmy..”the dumb one”..) Let’s hope your name is not “Jimmy”.

So, yes.. Grandma needs to go..Trust US. We love her, BUT not that much!..OH.. by the way, we have just “taken” her home and assets for “past assess-ments”. You know, untidy yard.. Grass, way too long, paint peeling....we have many reasons. And.. WE WILL USE THEM.

I encourage you to look at your family..and wonder..do they have value? Will YOU have value in the eyes of the elite? Good question.

My Friends..sound silly? As i have mentioned before, Oprah, is not the answer.. nor FOX, ABC, CBS, NBC, CNBC, MSNBC.. YOU NAME IT! Every one towing the line, every one spoon feeding the sheeple of this country half truths and distractions. Have you noticed the buying power of your dollar lately? Remember a month ago when it was five for a dollar and now it is four? Ready for next month?

THIS IS A REAL WAR. For the survival of this GREAT Nation..A Show of hands. Who Knows the current President, Barack Hussein

Obama was elected without proving he was a NATURAL BORN citizen of the UNITED STATES ?? A three point question!! WHAT?? you NEED to be Natural Born?? Who said THAT!?? Try the Constitution.

Bruce McCandless, Delhi

Defending Rev. WrightEdgar Thompson letter of 1/9/09 conclude: “And Mr. O’Leary’s comments

defending Reverend Jerimiah (sic) Wright are ludicrous.”Edgar Thompson finds my comments defending Rev. Wright ludicrous,

but doesn’t specify a particular remark. I wrote that Obama’s former pas-tor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright promotes black liberation theology, by insisting: “Reconciliation means we retain who we are as persons of different cultures, while acknowledging that those of other cultures are not superior or inferior to us.... Reconciliation means that we root out any teaching of superiority, inferiority, hatred, or prejudice.”

Evangelical Christian ministers have been known to use apocalyptic rheto-ric, which encourages their congregation to see the world in terms of black and white, good and evil, with us or against us. Perhaps, Thompson could be attacking Rev. Wright for using passionate language to preach liberation theology to his congregation.

Another possibility is that Thompson views his race and White Christian churches as superior. He might be angry that Rev. Wright is spreading the message of Dr. James H. Cone, who insisted: “Any message that is not related to the liberation of the poor in a society is not Christ’s message. Any theology that is indifferent to the theme of liberation is not Christian theology.”

I admire Rev. Jeremiah Wright, because he refuses to shut up and be a “house nigger,” which frustrates many Christians including Barack Obama. If, Thompson would prefer the term “Uncle Tom,” that is okay with me.

I admire Rev. Wright, because he speaks truth to power, as did abolitionist Frederick Douglass, who in a speech entitled: “Love of God, Love of Man, Love of Country,” said: “I make no pretension to patriotism. So long as my voice can be heard on this or the other side of the Atlantic, I will hold up America to the lightning scorn of moral indignation. In doing this, I shall feel myself discharg-ing the duty of a true patriot; for he is a lover of his country who rebukes and does not excuse its sins. It is righteousness that exalteth a nation while sin is a reproach to any people.”

Recently, Rabbi Brant Rosen in Evanston, Illinois wrote: “We good liberal Jews are ready to protest oppression and human-rights abuse anywhere in the world, but are all too willing to give Israel a pass.” Likewise, many American are too willing to give our government a pass.

Let’s try to “Treat people the way we’d like to be treated.” Jim O’Leary, Delhi

Dr. Hyman, who is board certifi ed in internal medicine and infectious diseases, also plans to provide care and con-sultations to patients in the Infectious Diseases Clinic. “It is important to me personally to continue clinical practice, and it is also important to be a user of the system for which I am responsible,” said Dr. Hy-man.

Dr. Hyman began his career

as a professional musician, earning a Bachelor of Music at The Mannes College of Mu-sic in New York City, and later earned a medical degree at The Sackler School of Medi-cine, at Tel Aviv University. His residency in internal medicine and infectious disease fellow-ship were done at Kings Coun-ty-Downstate, in Brooklyn. He is a fellow of the American Col-lege of Physicians and of the Infectious Disease Society of America and a member of the American Society of Internal Medicine and the Society of Hospital Medicine.

Dr. Hyman is married to Dr. Ofra Hyman, a social worker with a doctorate in social work from Adelphi Univer-sity. She has joined Bassett in

the Department of Psychiatry.

They have a grown daughter

“We are most pleased to have Dr. Hyman join Bassett as the chief of the Department of Medicine, Bassett’s largest clinical department,” said Dr. Streck. “His experience and accomplishments as a clini-cian and as an administrator provide Bassett with the ex-pertise required to continue the excellent work of the De-partment of Medicine and to provide overall leadership to the Bassett organization.”

As Bassett’s physician-in-chief, Dr. Hyman will provide senior physician leadership in the direction and provision of care provided by the Bas-sett Physician Group, and the Department of Medicine. “I am a believer in the staff model and have been interested in Bassett’s physician group practice for many years. DEC 22 – JAN 19

Change of plans, Capricorn. A new destination is calling. Don’t question; just pack your bags and go. You will return re-freshed and ready to conquer the world.

JUNE 22 – JULY 22

Give of yourself, Cancer. An organi-zation is in dire need. Confidentiality is breached at work. Steer clear of the matter. An innocent question could get you sucked in.

JAN 20 – FEB 18

Feeling a little touchy, Aquarius? Don’t worry. The funk will pass when a blast from the past rolls into town. A heated exchange at work is no reason to panic.

JULY 23 – AUG 22

Being polite is all well and good, Leo. Sometimes, how-ever, you have to take a stand and protect yourself and your family, even if you come across as rude.

FEB 19 – MAR 20

Ready for a wind-fall, Pisces? One is on the way. Put it where it will truly make a difference. A meeting with an old friend reminds you of what’s really important.

AUG 23 – SEPT 22

Brace yourself, Virgo. A storm is brewing at home. Prepare to take cover and vow not to get involved. Your family members must work out this one on their own.

MAR 21 – APRIL 19

Put an end to the crazy days forev-er, Aries. Clean up your house, get rid of the clutter and organize all of those nooks and crannies. You’ll be surprised at how efficient you become.

SEPT 23 -OCT 22

Wish you could do more, Libra? Say no more. The resources will soon be at hand. Romance moves front and center at home, and a special gift arrives in your mailbox.

APRIL 20 – MAY 20

Cutting corners will get you nowhere, Taurus. Resist the urge and pay atten-tion to the details. A tiff in the romance department calls for a creative solution.

OCT 23 -NOV 21

Feeling out of sorts, Scorpio? Relax. Life is about to turn a round, and a l l wrinkles will soon be ironed out. An is-sue at work is finally explored.

MAY 21 – JUNE 21

Take steps to pro-tect your assets, Gemini. A crisis is lurking. Travel plans get made in a hurry, and you’re whisked away on a romantic adventure. Enjoy!

NOV 22 –DEC 21

Fit to be tied, Sag-ittarius? A family decree makes your blood boil. Calm down. No one likes being told what to do, but this new rule really is in your best interest.
