Scout donates habilitation supplies to people with disabilities
Julia Wasley displays her recent donation, which was received at Intandem’s day services building at 2510 Niagara Falls Blvd. (Photo courtesy of agency)
Local Girl Scout Julia Wasley just completed a Gold Award ser-vice project she titled “Craft Cup-board for Intandem,” and donated her entire project to individuals with disabilities who attend the day-habilitation programs at In-tandem in Niagara County.
Wasley spend over two years compiling her project, which in-cluded organizing instructional binders and fl ash drives with de-tailed directions for numerous crafting projects, as well as gath-ering a large assortment of yarn, holiday decorations and various other crafting supplies. She col-lected the supplies by soliciting donations from many companies, including 3M and Scotch.
A freshman at Niagara Univer-
sity, Wasley dedicated her project to her aunt Lyla, who attends the day-habilitation program at Intan-dem in Niagara Falls.
Intandem Chief Development Offi cer Larry Sorokes expressed appreciation on behalf of the agency: “We are very grateful to Julia for all of the time and effort she put into this donation, as well as the many local people who contributed to her project. Since many of the individuals we sup-port are currently homebound and unable to be out in the com-munity, her gift is especially time-ly. We will begin sharing these crafting projects and supplies throughout our programs imme-diately.”
Vets chicken BBQ postponed to 2021
The Leo Curtis American Le-gion Post No. 830 in Ransomville and Lake Ontario VFW Post No. 313 in Youngstown announced recently they have decided to “postpone” this year’s veterans chicken barbecue due to circum-stances beyond their control re-garding the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We felt it was in the best inter-est for all that we postpone this year’s event,” organizers said.
Both posts said planning is un-
derway to host its “Spring 2020 BBQ” – the third annual – with a date still to be announced. “Please be sure to watch for the ‘new rescheduled’ barbecue date, here in the Sentinel!”
The American Legion and the VFW posts said they would like to extend their appreciation to the community “for all your support; and hope to see you at the barbe-cue in the spring!”
