This is BASI’s own courseAs an official training centre and partner of BASI, New Generationdeliver BASI’s own BASIGAP courses. This means every day and eachactivity during the 10 week gap course follows BASI’s own GAP syllabusand quality standards. If it’s not a BASIGAP course, you just don’t havethis quality assurance.

Part of a working ski schoolNew Generation is a working ski school voted No.1 Ski School by ‘WhichBooks’ and the Snow Awards. We have ski schools in 9 resorts acrossthe Alps and teach over 15,000 clients a year. As one of our gapstudents you are part of this ski school and will shadow our own skischool lessons.

First step on the pathway to a successful instructor careerOur gap course aims to prepare students for their BASI Level 2qualification which allows you to teach beginners to ski. Many studentsstart paid work soon after finishing the course. However we also tryto lay the groundwork for further ski instructor training and ultimatelya career in the ski industry. We run training courses for all instructorqualification levels and The BASI Gap Course is the first step on thisjourney.

The biggest ski area in the worldMeribel & Courchevel are huge ski areas in themselves as well as beingpart of the Trois Vallees Ski area - the largest ski area in the world. Theterrain varies from beautifully groomed pistes (perfect for learning toteach on) to steep couloirs and challenging off-piste runs.

And... don’t forget your free freeride jacketEvery student receives a fantastic freeride jacket (a black decagon)from The North Face.

Our course mentorsEach student is allocated a mentor to train and guide them throughthe course. Our mentors are Level 4 ISTD BASI instructors, thehighest BASI level.

Performance ski coachingThe mentors provide performance ski coaching, working with a BASItrainer to shape their training techniques to ensure students areon track for their exams. They give each student a written actionplan for their skiing and teaching which is continuously updatedduring the course. All this follows our Individual DevelopmentAssistance Programme which you can read about on page 13.

Off snow they will provide video analysis and feedback, as well asthe necessary training on ski theory, presentation skills andteaching. We find that the mentor system allows us to follow astudent’s progression closely, and individual help and support for allaspects of the course.

We make sure that they are exposed to different types oflesson so that they are able to learn some secrets about great teaching and receive first hand work experience of a ski school. All students will keep a log book while shadowing to help with theirown lesson plans.

Off snow care

Living in a ski resort is so much easier when you have a little backgroundknowledge of the resort. To help students with the non-skiing aspects ofthe course we have Sarah (AKA ‘Mum’) on hand to help out. Sarah is al-ways at the end of the phone during the course to answer questions andsolve any issues. This help can be anything from showing where thechemist is to helping with CV writing.

Careers seminar and support During the course we run a careers seminar. This is an introductionfrom leading snow sports instructors on moving forward within the industry. A summary of the BASI system and its requirements beyondlevel 2 is also provided.

Students will hear from different ski schools talking about what they lookfor in an instructor. They can get help with CV writing, and are provided alist of our main recruitment and career contacts gathered over years inthe industry in order to make sure that they have good prospects follow-ing the course.

On successful completion of the course we can arrange for students towork in a ski school for the week - ask our course advisers for more details.
