    DUCK RACE & FAMILY FUN DAY AT HAVILANDS COVETO FEATURE NEW RIDE FOR 2014 THE ROAMINGRAILROAD. On Saturday, July 26that 12:31 pm sharp, 6000ittle rubber ducks will start racing down the Feeder Canal at

    Havilands Cove in the 24th annual $1 Million Dollar Duck Racerganized by the Kiwanis Club of Glens Falls. The first duck toross the finish line will be the grand prize winner, but there are

    many additional prizes for those that follow. The owner of the win-ing duck ticket could win $1,000,000 or a guaranteed prize of $2014n cash. In association with the Duck Race the Kiwanis Club willresent Family Fun Day at Havilands Cove Park. From 11 am to 2m, there will be lots of family and childrens activities: music, ponyides, face painting, a bounce house, old-fashioned yard games, po-ce vehicles and fire trucks, a corn box, craft activities and piatas.

    New this year will be the Roaming Railroad, a trackless train thatwill provide free rides around Haviland Cove Park. No admission isharged to the event, but food is available for purchase. The Duck

    Race is organized by the Kiwanis Club to benefit five area non-profitrganizations and the Glens Falls Kiwanis Club Foundation. Therganizations include Big Brothers/Big Sisters of the Southern

    Adirondacks, Greater Glens Falls Senior Center, Warren Washing-on CARE Center, Moreau Community Center and CWI. The Foun-ation provides college scholarships to area Key Club members whoctively volunteer in their communities. Duck tickets may be pur-hased for $5 from Kiwanis Club members or at any of the followingocations: Warren Tire, 92 Warren Street, GF Talk of the Town, 74

    Hudson Ave, GF North Country Coffee Caf, 11 South Street, GFLaw Office of Michael J. Toomey, 1 S. Western Plaza, GF On RaceDay they may be purchased at Havilands Cove Park until noon.

    miered countless piano and chamber music works, and served onuries for the Grammy awards. There will be encore performances

    Aug 10 at Park-McCullough, and Aug 11 & 12 on Martha's Vine-ard. Music from Salem is a unique organization, where the musi-ians work and live together for a week, and the caliber of thelaying and quality of interpretation is amazing.

    MASSES AT SALEM HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCHre Saturday at 4:30 PM and Sunday at 9:00 AM. There is ahildrens Liturgy during Sunday Mass to which all children are

    welcome. A representative of the Franciscan Missionary Sistersor Africa will be visiting next weekend to speak about their work

    nd needs in Kenya, South Sudan, Uganda, Zambia and Zimba-we. Feast of the Assumption is August 15 with Mass at 9:00 AM.

    LAND DONATED TO SAVE ENDANGERED OWLS! Some very generous people have offeredto donate 14 acres of prime habitat in Fort Edward to Friends of the IBA, a local nonprofit working toprotect endangered Short-eared Owls and other at risk grassland birds and their habitat. The parcelis located in the heart of the Washington County Grasslands Important Bird Area. Friends of the IBA(FIBA) is asking for your help to raise $20,000 to cover costs of transferring the land and futuremanagement costs. We need to raise one third of that amount by September 1st to be able to closeon the property, said FIBA President & Director Laurie LaFond. Every contribution helps. This isan important first acquisition in our Land for Owls campaign. Friends of the IBA is a 501(c)(3)nonprofit and the first official New York State DEC steward of the Washington County Grasslandsstate areas. Friends of the IBA was awarded a $5,000 grant from the NYS Conservation PartnershipProgram by DEC and Land Trust Alliance in May. LaFond said the grant, funded through theEnvironmental Protection Fund (EPF), will help advance the groups mission to provide safe habitatfor these beautiful birds and educate the public about them.
