Level 1 Foundation Learning options at Nescot are designed to combine vocational training with building English, Maths, IT and personal skills, to prepare you for further study, paid employment or voluntary work.

Construction: 2 GCSEs at Grade 3 or above (including Maths and English).Beauty and Hair and Catering: 3 GCSEs at Grade 3 or above and Initial Assessment (at interview)Other subjects: Two GCSEs at Grade 2 or above, preferably English and Maths.

Successful achievement at E3, including Functional Skills.

Courses for students who have mild to moderate learning difficulties and/or disabilities, and those who have no formal qualifications or are not in formal education.An advisory interview and an assessment.

Level 4+ courses available at Nescot are featured in the ‘university-level’ section of our website. Taking a Degree, Foundation Degree or HND provides a seamless progression from BTEC Level 3 and A-Level courses.

80 UCAS points, for example (Merit, Pass, Pass).

Level 3 BTEC or equivalent, and Level 2 English and Maths. All progressors require a satisfactory reference from their course tutor.

Most Level 3 courses are two-year programmes and many provide progression opportunities to Higher Education, particularly the BTEC Extended Diplomas. A particular trade or craft will provide qualified entry to employment.Please note: Level 3 craft qualifications all build on the practical skills acquired at Level 2. Therefore applicants should already hold a Level 2 in the same craft discipline.

16-19 years old: Merit at Level 2 Diploma, English and Maths. All progressors require a satisfactory reference from their course tutor.

16-19 years old: 4 GCSEs at Grades 4-5, including one in Maths and English, or Merit at Level 2 Diploma or equivalent.

Adults aged 19 or above: Initial advisory interview and online English and Maths assessment.

4 GCSEs at Grade 3 or above, although some courses may accept lower grades depending on individual circumstances.

These are one-year courses which are related to particular areas of work. They are assessed through assignments and exams and are equivalent to 5 GCSEs.Please note: Craft qualifications all have very specific entry requirements and these are listed with their courses.

Successful completion of a Level 1 programme of study.All progressors require a satisfactory reference from their course tutor.

Nescot Courses 2017Foundation Learning

�For�students�with�mild/moderate�learning�difficulties�or�without� Level�1�entry�qualifications

Pre-College School links programme, introduction to Nescot.

Year 1 Foundations. The first year in college. Settle into the new environment and experience a range of tasters.

Year 2 Building Blocks. Select two vocational roles. Spend the year developing the skills and knowledge needed for these roles.

Year 3 Springboard. A final year in college experiencing work and/or voluntary opportunities. Take part in individual or group placements.

Post-College Individual Support from the Transitions Officer.

Foundation Learning graduates have gone on to higher level study or found jobs in offices, cafes, facilities, hotels, farms and building sites.

Each student will apply online for Foundations.

The next step will be to attend an interview which will involve a brief assessment. We can then discuss individual needs and together agree an appropriate starting point.

Beauty3 GCSEs at grade C / new grade 4 or above and 1 at grade D / new grade 3 including English. Alternatively a Level 1 Diploma in Beauty with the majority of grades being Merit or above plus English.

Brickwork Pass Level 1 Brickwork plus Maths and English

Business 4 GCSEs at grade D / new grade 3 or above including English and Maths or Level 1 Diploma plus English and Maths.

Carpentry Pass Level 1 Carpentry plus Maths and English

Childcare4 GCSEs at grade D / new grade 3 or above including English and Maths. Alternatively a Merit grade at Level 1 plus English and Maths. We also require a satisfactory school reference. Applicants will also need to apply for an Enhanced DBS check at enrolment.

Computing 4 GCSEs at grade D / new grade 3 or above including English and Maths or Level 1 Diploma plus English and Maths.

Cookery Professional

Successful completion of Level 1 Professional Cookery, including English, a satisfactory tutor reference, plus enthusiasm and passion to work in the Hospitality and Catering industry.

Electrical

2 GCSEs at grade C / new grade 4 or above in Maths and English plus a satisfactory school reference. Science GCSE would also be an advantage due to the electrical principles involved in the course. For internal progressors successful completion of Level 1 programme, appropriate English and Maths, a good reference with 90% attendance and no cause for concern on Promonitor.

Hair4 GCSEs at grade D / new grade 3 or successful completion of the Level 1 programme in Hairdressing with the majority of grades at Merit or above plus English. A satisfactory reference is also required.

Hair and Media MakeupA minimum of 3 C grades / new grade 4 and 1 D / new grade 3 including English or Level 1 Diploma in Hair & Beauty with the majority of grades being Merits or above plus English.

Health and Social Care 4 GCSEs at grade D / new grade 3 or above including English and Maths. Alternatively a Merit grade at Level 1 plus English and Maths. We also require a satisfactory school reference. Applicants will also need to apply for an Enhanced DBS check at enrolment.

Horticulture 2 GCSEs grade C/D new grade 3/4 in English and Maths as well as GCSE Science grade D/ new grade 3 and a satisfactory reference.

Media (Creative) 4 GCSEs at grade D / new grade 3 or above including English or Level 1 Diploma plus English.

Motor Vehicle Level 1 Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, plus Maths and English. Alternatively, at least four GCSEs Grade C / new grade 4 or above in Maths and English and other Science related subjects.

Music 4 GCSEs at grade D / new grade 3 or above including English or Level 1 Diploma plus English.

Performing Arts 4 GCSEs at grade D / new grade 3 or above including English or Level 1 Diploma plus English and a successful audition.

Plastering Maths and English at grade D / new grade 3 plus an aptitude test.

Plumbing 2 GCSEs at grade C / new grade 4 or above in Maths and English or a Level 1 plus Maths and English. A satisfactory school reference is also required.

Public Services 4 GCSEs at grade D / new grade 3 or above including English or Level 1 Diploma plus English.

Media Production (Creative)

4 GCSEs at grade C / new grade 4 or above including English or Level 2 at Merit grade plus English and Maths.

Music Technology 4 GCSEs at grade C / new grade 4 or above including English or Level 2 at Merit grade plus English and Maths.

NextGen Games, Animation and VFX skills

4 GCSEs at grade C / new grade 4 or above preferably including English and Maths. Internal progressors: Level 2 course at Merit grade or above in a related subject plus English and Maths.

Outdoor Adventure 5 GCSE’s at grade C / new grade 4 or above including English or Level 2 Diploma plus English.

Performing Arts 4 GCSEs at grade C / new grade 4 or above including English or Level 2 at Merit grade plus English and Maths and a sucessful audition.

Public Services 4 GCSEs at grade C / new grade 4 or above including English or Level 2 at Merit grade plus English and Maths.

Sport Extended Diploma 4 GCSEs at grade C / new grade 4 or above including English and Maths. Internal progressors: Merit grade in Level 2 Sport plus English and Maths.

Sport Coaching and Fitness Diploma

Access to Higher Education

Foundation Year Biomedical Science

From A levels: 160 UCAS points from two A2 subjects; BTEC Extended Diploma: 160 UCAS points; Access Diploma: Pass in an Access course, with at least 45 credits at Level 3 and 15 at Level 2 or above. Plus: GCSE (9 - 4): minimum of five subjects, including Mathematics, English Language, and Double Science. Mature students, lacking the above qualifications, but with significant science-related work experience may apply and have qualifications assessed by interview and portfolio of evidence.

Access to HE - Health & Social Care Professions (Nursing Pathway) – Level 3

Applicants should have GCSE Maths and English at grade 4.

Access to HE -Science – Level 3

Applicants should have GCSE Science and Maths at grade 4.

Level four Entry requirements

Early Years: Advanced Practitioner

Applicants must be 18+ and hold a full L3 Early Years/Childcare qualification.

Level�five Entry requirements

Animal Management: Foundation Degree

Level 3 AIM Certificate in Counselling.

Early Years: Foundation Degree

You will need a full and relevant Level 3 qualification in early years, care and education. You will need to be working or volunteering with young children in an early years setting for at least 16 hours a week

Healthcare Play Specialism:Foundation Degree

GCSE Maths and English at grade 4 or above, or equivalent Level 2 in Literacy and Numeracy; Minimum of a relevant Level 3 qualification in Childcare or a related field; Minimum of two years’ post qualification employment, working with children· Good communication skills· Evidence of continuous professional development· Evidence of current, regular and relevant employment in the sector· Identification of a registered Play Specialist to act as work-based mentor· Commitment to negotiate and complete a 200-hour placement each year, if not already employed in a hospital

Performing Arts From A levels: 64 UCAS Tariff points; BTEC: 64 UCAS Tariff points; Plus: GCSE (9 - 4): minimum of five subject including Mathematics and English Language. We will consider a range of alternative qualifications or experience that is equivalent to the typical offer.

Computing & Networking HND

From A levels: 64 UCAS Tariff points; BTEC: 64 UCAS Tariff points; Plus: GCSE (A*-C): minimum of five subject including Mathematics and English Language. We will consider a range of alternative qualifications, or experience, such as level 3 Cisco, Microsoft or Oracle.

Creative Media Production (Games/Animation and VFX): HND

Portfolio of Design Work and one of the following: 160 UCAS points; A minimum of MPP on a relevant National Diploma or 2 A-levels grade C. Mature students without suitable academic entry requirements will be considered in light of relevant occupational experience

Creative Media Production (Moving Image): HND

From A levels: 64 UCAS Tariff points; BTEC: 64 UCAS Tariff points; Plus: GCSE (9 - 4): minimum of five subject including Mathematics and English Language. We will consider a range of alternative qualifications or experience that is equivalent to the typical offer

Food Premises Inspection HE Certificate

Applicants must have HND/BSc Honours QAA FHEQ Level 4 in a related discipline. Applicants for this course should be employed and supported by a Local Authority Environmental Health Department. In exceptional circumstances, applicants not in such employment but with significant experience in catering or food manufacture, holding a relevant QAA FHEQ Level 4/5 qualification may also be considered.

Sports Coaching: Foundation Degree

Osteopathic Medicine: BOst (Hons)

BTEC: 96 UCAS Tariff points; Access Diploma: Pass with 60 credits (Science based) Plus: GCSE (A*-C): minimum of five subjects including Mathematics and English Language. We will consider a range of alternative qualifications or experience that is equivalent to the typical offer. Applications from international students with equivalent qualifications are welcome.
