• In life one of the first things we learn is

NAVIGATION.

• Webster defines this as the method of

determining position, course, and distance

traveled.

• The point is you spend a great deal of your lifenavigating—like a ship – through variousexperiences, obstacles, and courses to get to a

certain destination.• So those three words are very important to

you in the journey:

POSITION• COURSE

• DISTANCE TRAVELLED

• Relative to those three words are three keyquestions:

• 1. Where are you?

• 2. How did you get here?

• 3. Where do you go from here?

• We asked the question last week “How did I

get here?” Abraham Lincoln said, “If we could

first know where we were and whither we

were tending, we could better judge what to

do and how to do it”

• Are you ignoring the obvious? Titanic mistake!

• Shortly before midnight on 14 April 1912, four days into the

ship's maiden voyage, Titanic hit an iceberg and sank two hours

and forty-eight minutes later, early on 15 April 1912. Prior to the

disaster the captain had received no less than 6 warnings to

change course because of numerous icebergs spotted in thewater, all of which the captain ignored. The sinking resulted in

the deaths of 1,517 of the 2,223 people on board, making it one

of the deadliest peacetime maritime disasters in history. The

high casualty rate was due in part to the fact that, although

complying with the regulations of the time, the ship did not

carry enough lifeboats for everyone aboard. The ship had a total

lifeboat capacity of 1,178 people, although her maximum

capacity was 3,547. A disproportionate number of men died due

to the women-and-children-first protocol that was followed.

• What are the warning signs of impending

trouble?

• Look at Elijah.

 – Withdrawn

 – Isolation/seclusion

 – Feelings of inferiority

 – Negative thinking

 – Preoccupation with self

• What was the root of all this trouble? And

where do we go from here?

• It’s all about relationships at the end of the

day God

• Self Others

• Elijah’s major problem? ANGER -- simple

unresolved, buried anger!

• Anger is an emotion, in and of itself it is not

bad. But when left unresolved becomes the

hidden guest at every turn, and is like a buried

mine waiting to be stepped on and set off.

• Anger is a secondary emotion and not a

primary feeling

• Anger arises out of FEAR, FRUSTRATION, or

HURT or some combination of these 3

• i.e. Elijah

• We use ANGER to cope with fear…this

fear/anger mechanism works like this:

In a marriage here is an example from ahusband and a wife as follows:

• The husband’s version:

• “Every time I come home, Mary is waiting for

me with a chip on her shoulder. I hate to go

home. As I drive home, I get more and more

tense. When I get home and see her waiting

for me with her hands on her hips, it just

makes me mad, and I tie into her before shecan get the jump on me….”

• The wife’s version:

• “Joe is always mad at me over something…He

always comes home in a bad temper. I really

have to stand up to him to defend myself…”

• Smoldering anger fueled by fear—of the other

person’s anger

• Anger should not be welcomed as a heart

guest or allowed to stay on

•Ep.4:25What this adds up to, then, is this: no morelies, no more pretense. Tell your neighbor thetruth. In Christ's body we're all connected to each

other, after all. When you lie to others, you endup lying to yourself.

•26-27Go ahead and be angry. You do well to beangry—but don't use your anger as fuel for

revenge. And don't stay angry. Don't go to bedangry. Don't give the Devil that kind of foothold inyour life.
