Course Guide Cert III IDMT v2.3 17th June 2019 2

1 Introduction MacKillop Catholic College established its registered training organisation (RTO 45147) in 2017 as part of the

College’s commitment to making a difference, however big or small, in the lives of each young person to “be

the best they can be.”

By providing specialist vocational education and training (VET) courses as part of MacKillop Catholic College’s

RTO, we are providing opportunities for all learners to explore their interests; learn in a wider range of

challenging environments and work in creative partnerships with industry and the community (including

through work placements).

This Course Guide for ICT30118 Certificate III in Information, Digital Media, and Technology will provide you

an introduction to vocational education and training information and to your course. Read this Guide and keep

it for reference throughout your course. You will also need to read the RTO Student Handbook to ensure you

understand your rights and responsibilities in undertaking a VET course with MacKillop Catholic College RTO.

2 Starting Your Course To be eligible for enrolment into ICT30118 Certificate III in Information, Digital Media, and Technology, you must;

• wish to do a media and technology course;

• have met the work eligibility age in NT in the first year of the course;

• meet the level of foundation skills as assessed by the College RTO at enrolment;

• complete the MacKillop Catholic College Laptop Agreement;

• provide a Unique Student Identifier (USI) or give permission for the College RTO to apply for one on

your behalf (see the Enrolment Form) and

• complete a VET Course Enrolment Form

Prior to enrolling, or at enrolment, you will be asked to complete a short evaluation test to confirm you

Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) levels in line with the Australian Core Skills Framework (ASCF). This LLN

test is designed to assist the trainer in understanding how they can support you in completing your course and

if LLN issues are identified, this does not automatically preclude you from participating in this course.

Learners with special needs enrolling in the school will be identified prior to enrolment to ensure an appropriate

partnership approach can be arranged to support their needs within the course and the broader school

community.

3 ICT30118 Certificate III in Information, Digital Media & Technology 3.1 Course Overview

This course provides advanced skills in a range of specialist IT areas, such as:

• TECHNICAL SUPPORT: Setting up a computer is a fundamental foundation of the ICT industry …

sometimes computers just do not work! Basic support is being able to setup a computer, find out what

is wrong with a machine (diagnostics) and then communicate that to the client.

• IMAGING: is the visual representation of objects you can see. Digital imaging or digital image acquisition

is the creation of digital images. The term is often assumed to imply or include the processing,

compression, storage, printing, and display of such images. Imaging is the foundation of the digital media

in IDMT. What is important is being able to produce different images for different uses and to also

produce the same image for different uses.

• PHOTOSHOOT: A very practical module orientated towards capturing/acquiring digital images and

preparing them for use in many and varied formats including graphic design, website and social media

publication. The program will prepare you for entry into the photo imaging industry and further studies

in Creative Industries including video production and film making.

• ON THE WEB: Having a web presence, web applications, e-commerce, social media marketing, content

management systems and e-mail marketing are all part of business these days. Business and life are

bound with the internet, the web. Here the uploaded product is a simple, functional business web site.

Delivery Mode:

This course is currently being run as an assessment only or recognition of prior leaning (RPL) program. This

means that this course is open to students who have existing skills in one of the key areas detailed above with

strong IT, application software skills who can self-manage their study.

The course gives the opportunity to gain a formal accredited qualification tailored to meet your individual

needs and areas of expertise. Some units of competency may be available for on campus learning and

assessment. You will need to discuss this with the RTO Manager at the time of enrolment to determine

your t6rainng and assessment pathway.

Units of Competency: As this program is designed as primarily and assessment or RPL only pathways, the unit

choice is open to the individual as long as it meets the packaging rules of the qualification. All enrolments must

be confirmed with the RTO manager prior to enrolment.

7 Records of Student Achievement Protecting each individual’s privacy is not only respectful but a legislative requirement. However both the

College and the College RTO are required to collect information for the purposes of conducting education and

training.

You have received the ‘Protecting Your Privacy’ brochure as part of the general College enrolment pack. The

brochure provides the key information about the College’s duty of care and primary legislative requirements

for protecting privacy. It allows, for example, parents and carers to have access to your learning records.

The College RTO is required under legislation to collect further information (under AVETMISS - the Australian

Vocational Education and Training Management Information Statistical Standard). We have incorporated these

extra questions into the VET Courses Enrolment Form. Only authorised persons within the College RTO will have

access to this information and personal details will not be given to any other third party without written

consent, unless authorised or required by law.

7.1 NTCET Credit All qualifications or units of competency that make up a qualification, in the Australian Qualifications

Framework (AQF) can contribute to the completion requirements of the Northern Territory Certificate of

Education and Training (NTCET). Currently for every 70 nominal hours of nationally recognized training

successfully completed, 10 credits will be recognised towards the NTCET. All competencies/modules are

assigned NTCET Stage 1 or Stage 2 and can contribute to some of the compulsory components of the NTCET

pattern.

The SACE Board determines the stage at which qualifications will be granted recognition in the NTCET. For

details of how specific VET qualifications can earn NTCET credits at Stage 1 and/or Stage 2, refer to the

http://www.sace.sa.edu.au/subjects.

On current information for the selection of units of competency in ICT30118 Certificate II in Information, Digital

Media, and Technology, the credit for a successful completion of the qualification towards the NTCET would

potentially be 90 Credits (Stage 1 and/or Stage 2).
