Learning outcomesThis course has been divided into the following three levels to cater for the different skill requirements of emergency response teams. Upon successful completion of each level, participants will be awarded a Statement of Attainment for the units outlined below.

Level one: Provides participants with the skills and knowledge to effectively participate in a general surface mine rescue emergency response team, responding to fire, using breathing apparatus and operating safely.

Level two: Provides participants with an additional skills set to perform vertical rescues and road crash rescues.

Level three: Provides participants with an additional skills set to perform rescues in confined space environments and incident containment tactics.

Upon successful completion of all levels participants will be issued with the (RII30715) Certificate III in Mine Emergency Response and Rescue qualification.

Entry requirementsParticipants must hold a current First Aid certificate to enter this course.

Mines Rescue also encourages participants to gain knowledge and experience of the policies and procedures of their workplace before starting the course. It is also an expectation that participants have experience working in a surface coal mine environment.

It is acknowledged that this is a course based on a Certificate III level qualification that requires appropriate levels of language, literacy and numeracy skills to manage course work, in-course activities and assessment tasks.
