Drama & Theatre
Are you interested in drama and theatre? Maybe you have some
experience already or would like to try something new. York Theatre
Royal in partnership with York St John would like to run a regular drama
session with a group of interested women at Kyra. The sessions would be
a friendly and supportive introduction to drama and theatre with a view
to those women being supported to take part in the 2017 York Theatre
Royal community production in a variety of ways. The production is a
secret at the moment but will be a brand new piece of writing and will
be VERY exciting! All will be revealed very soon.
The sessions will be delivered by Paula Clark from York Theatre Royal
with visits from Juliet Forster, Associate Director of York Theatre Royal
and Katie Posner, Associate Director of Pilot Theatre who will be co-
directing the production in 2017. We would like begin the sessions in the
Autumn on Friday afternoons at KYRA. If you are interested, please sign
up with a volunteer and Paula will pop by to chat to you about it and
answer any questions soon.
Friday 16th September at 1 pm, Paula from the Theatre Royal will be
running our first session
Huge thank you to Gemma
She didn’t look quite as pretty when she finished – but she says she
thoroughly enjoyed the mudder challenge. We are looking forward to
hearing the final total.
Well Done Gemma – Kyra is so grateful of your support

Kyra’s Edible Garden
Plenty of time to Talk and Grow,
come rain or shine
Closed Bank Holiday Monday
The Edible Courtyard Garden on a Monday afternoon is about being in
a beautiful, calm space to talk and share while benefiting from the
therapeutic qualities of taking part (or not) in some very light planting
and growing on our raised beds. No bending lifting or heavy digging.
It’s a really good stress buster, nearly as good as stroking a cat, if you
like cats! It's not hard work. It's like the Tuesday and Thursday drop ins,
only outside in the sunshine with the birds singing. We also learn a bit
about food and growing and share our experiences. We eat some nice
things too.
We meet on a Monday from 1-4pm No need to book, just come along

Used Stamps
We are collecting used stamps. Would you save your stamps, cut them
off the envelope with a 1/4inch edge?

We invite you to
YOUR SPACE
Meet other women in a relaxing and safe place. Share conversation,
company and cake! It’s your space - please come and fill it.
Every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon 1—4pm and the 1st Saturday of
every month 12.30—3.00pm.
Saturday 3rd September, you are invited to join us. Bring a little something
towards a shared lunch. No need to book, just come along from 12.30
AA 2pm on the 22nd
The presentation is an hour long. It will be from myself and 1 other
female A.A member who works with me. I will cover where AA came
from (we think it is important that people know that A.A 12 step
programs evolved from our co-founders who were both active
alcoholics who found a way to get sober and remain sober) and part of
my story.
It will also include information about Al-Anon (our sister fellowship) for
those who may have or had someone in their lives where alcohol has
been a problem or/and still is.
The 2nd speaker will also share her story. There will be about 15 minutes
at the end for questions, answers and comments. We will also bring free
information in the form of leaflets and meetings lists.

HAVE YOUR SAY
Alcohol and Drug Services in York
Do you use alcohol or drugs in a way that is unhealthy or causes
problems?
Have you in the past, and are now recovering? Or perhaps substances
are no longer a problem for you?
We wish to talk to individuals in all stages of addiction and recovery,
whether you have used treatment services or not.
Tell us a bit about your history with alcohol and/or drugs. Give us your
views or experiences of alcohol and drug services, as well as other parts
of the community in York. The information we receive from you is vital
and will help the development of new treatment systems in York.

problems, and live in the York area we are inviting you to take part.
These discussions will be taking place in Kyra on Monday 26th Sep and

Kyra continues to grow and we welcome new women to us on
a regular basis. We are continuously increasing services and
activities to help with supporting people to move on with their

It has been decided that we will look for our ‘own front door’,
where we can welcome women and offer more choice and
support.
This will not happen immediately. We all know change is
difficult, but exciting. As any developments happen, we will
keep our members informed. Any concerns or worries please
talk with the volunteers. Be reassured we are doing this
together, we will ensure that Kyra remains a safe, positive,

We know it is the people that make a place wonderful and that
won’t be changing.

Legal advice for our members – offered by Crombie Wilkinson
Solicitors in conjunction with Kyra
Juliette and Kim
Juliette - I am a Chartered Legal Executive, which means I studied and
worked full time to gain my qualification. I have 5 years post qualified
experience but have been working in Family Law for almost 11 years.
Essentially I do all that a Solicitor does but with a different title!
Kim – I am an Associate member of The Chartered Institute of Legal
Executives and have worked in family law for over 12 years.
Over the years we have gained vast knowledge and experience in
dealing with cases involving Domestic Abuse by assisting clients in
obtaining Non Molestation Orders (Injunctions) and Occupation Orders
through the Family Court. We also specialise in private law children
matters, public law cases, divorce and any financial aspects arising out
of the same, either stand-alone cases, or as a result of Domestic Abuse.
In certain situations, we can apply for Non Molestation Orders or orders
regarding children for a client on an emergency basis. We can also
assess clients for Legal Aid as and when the need arises.
We will be available on the first Thursday of the month from 10am-12pm
at KYRA for anyone who wishes to call in.
If anyone would like to make an appointment with either of us, then
please call 01904 624185.
