Pastor's Notebook: What is a “Bridge Interim?”
Have you ever heard of a “bridge pastor?” I haven't either.
The session has hired me as of March 1, to be such, part time and I
stress part time. The job description includes preaching, moderating
the session, working with the interim pastor search committee which
has not been elected by the session, and pastoral care, especially
hospital work.
I'm to be the “bridge” between Claude and your full time interim.
I will be in the office on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings
and on Sunday in the pulpit. I expect this work to take about three
months and then we will have a full time “real” interim pastor. I will
be using the pastor's email and my cell phone is 919-518-4500.

For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them. (Matthew 18:20)
CHOIR CHATTER:
MEYMANDI HALL here we come!
What's happening with your choir? We are very fortunate to have been chosen to participate in Come to the Cross and Remember.
The presentation is directed by the composer, Pepper Choplin. We will
join six other choirs: Trinity Baptist, Grace Baptist Fellowship, Ridge
Road Baptist, Highland United Methodist, Zebulon Baptist, and Holland United Methodist - a total of 249 singers. We will be
accompanied by the Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle. Tickets are
available in our church office. They are $10.00 each, and Tammy is
handling the sales. Children 10 and under go free. In addition, we will sing the same cantata here at Covenant spread
over Palm Sunday and Easter, so if you can't make it on April 2nd,
you can still share in the experience on a smaller scale. Having the
experience twice will surely be a spiritual blessing. We'd love to see you in both places.
See you in church,
Wanda
The Back-Pack-Buddies program sends food home in needy students’ backpacks on every Friday to be sure that they do not go hungry over the weekend. There is a designated bin in the Narthex and lists with suggested items on the bulletin boards. Emphasis for March: peanut butter, soups with meat, canned vegetables. We take 38 bags to Carver Elementary every three weeks so keep those contributions coming! The Food Pantry is an on-going project supplying bags of groceries to needy families in our area. Emphasis for March: Baby food & supplies: diapers, wipes, baby shampoo & soap. We are grateful to Wendell UMC for providing space and volunteers to staff the pantry. If you would like to volunteer at the pantry, let the church office know.
OBSERVING LENT The beginning of March is also the beginning of Lent. A Wendell tradition, the Lenten Lunches on each Wednesday during Lent are sponsored by the Wendell Council of Churches. Brief devotions and lunch provided by the individual churches begin at 12:15 p.m. at the Methodist Church on the corner of Main & Wendell Blvd. Covenant’s turn to serve will be on March 29th. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, March 1, 2017.

PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN You are invited! Tuesday evening, March 28th Presbyterian Women will meet in Fellowship Hall at 7:00 p.m. Devotions, refreshments, sharing and an interesting study are part of the evening. This year we are learning about the reason for the liturgical colors & customs used in our worship. Future plans include a Mother’s Day Brunch on Saturday, May 6th at 10:00 a.m. so save the date! Mothers, daughters, grandmothers – all ages are welcome. In the fall, we look forward to our annual dinner, silent auction and country store which is not only a lot of fun for everyone but provides funds for our Pastor’s Discretionary Fund. ******************************************
A SPRINKLE AND A SHOWER! Grant Christopher Anderson was born December 29th and friends of Mom Emily are giving them a “sprinkle” on Saturday, March 11th at 1 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. (Since he is the second child, it is only a sprinkle and not a shower!) Women of the church are cordially invited to come and help celebrate. Matthew & Nicole Bills are expecting their first child, a baby boy in April. This means A SHOWER on March 19th at 2:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. The Bill’s are new members of our church family so this is a great opportunity to make them feel welcome. Nicole is registered at Amazon.

Dear Covenant Family,
Thank you so much for the wonderful “send off” you gave to me
on my last Sunday. All the different ways you expressed your love &
thanks will forever be cherished. Special thanks to everyone who
worked so hard to make the day such a celebration for me & my
family. I look forward to learning how to use the new I-Pad, going to
Angus Barn (I've never been) & all the other tokens of appreciation.
Wherever our journey takes us, you will always be in my heart.
It has been my great privilege to serve as your pastor. God be with
you 'til we meet again.
Grace & peace,
Claude
