And Tango Makes Three

“Come One, Come All, to the Cowern Carnival tonight— Friday, May 4, 5:00-8:00 p.m.!”

This month, we will be continuing with a Welcoming Schools theme centered around the book “And Tango Makes Three.” The book is written by Justin Richardson and Peter Parnell and tells the story of two male pen-guins, Roy and Silo, who create a family together. With the help of the zookeeper, Mr. Gramsay, who gives them an extra egg from another penguin couple at the zoo, they are able to welcome their own baby penguin to the world. Roy and Silo each take turns sitting on the egg until it eventually hatches. The chick is named "Tango" by the zookeepers. We will focus our All School Morning Meeting next week, Friday, May 11, on the importance of celebrating all families. On Thursday, May 24, we will partake in our tradition of having a Peace Walk and one of the stations will be centered around our theme this month.

For safety reasons (especially at recess), we are requesting that students do NOT wear flip flop shoes to school.

From the Health Office

The end of the year is quickly approaching. If your child has medication in the school health office, a plan needs to be put in place for medication pick-up. Any leftover medication should be physically picked up on the last day of school by a parent or guardian. If this is not possible, arrangements must be made for alternative pick-up. In such cases, please call Kate Brazil at 651-748-6815. If the medi-cation is NOT picked up by the last day of school on June 7th, the medication will be disposed of at the end of the day on June 8th. Thank you.

Be healthy. Be happy. Be well.

Birthday Boxes On Thursday, May 24, one of the stations during our Peace Walk will be a service project. Students will help create Birthday Boxes to give away to local families in need. In order to make this project a success, we’ll need to collect items to fill those boxes. So, we’re desper-ately in need of your help. If you have any of the following items to donate, please bring them to school as soon as possible. We will begin accepting donations as early as Monday, May 7 through Friday, May 18. There will be a box outside of the office to place your donated items in. Your contributions will help make this project a success. 1. We need shoe boxes big enough to hold any or all of the items listed below! If you’d like to cover the boxes with white paper, they will be all ready to decorate. That would be very helpful. 2. Cake Mix 3. Frosting 4. Birthday Candles 5. Sprinkles 6. Cupcake Liners 7. Candy 8. Balloons 9. Crepe Paper or Confetti 10. Noise Blowers or Birthday Hats 11. Party Favors or Prizes 12.
