    Warning: High voltageThis product contains high voltage. Adjustmentsrequire specialized service procedures and toolsonly available to qualified service technicians.There are no user serviceable parts or adjustments.The operator should never remove the cover orattempt to service the product.

    Warning: Product groundingBefore applying power to this product, ensure it hasbeen correctly grounded, in accordance with theinstructions in this guide.

    Warning: Positive ground systemsDo not connect this unit to a system which haspositive grounding.

    Warning: Switch off power supplyEnsure the vessel’s power supply is switched OFFbefore starting to install this product. Do NOTconnect or disconnect equipment with the powerswitched on, unless instructed in this document.

    Warning: Sonar operation• NEVER operate the sonar with the vessel out ofthe water.

    • NEVER touch the transducer face when thesonar is powered on.

    • SWITCH OFF the sonar if divers are likely to bewithin 7.6 m (25 ft) of the transducer.

    Warning: Transducer cablesDo not remove the transducer cable whilst theproduct is powered on, doing so can cause sparks.If the transducer cable is accidently removed whilstthe product is powered on, switch the product'spower off, replace the cable and then switch thepower back on.

    Caution: Power supply protectionWhen installing this product ensure the powersource is adequately protected by means of asuitably-rated fuse or automatic circuit breaker.

    Caution: Do not cut transducercables• Cutting the transducer cable severely reducessonar performance. If the cable is cut, it must bereplaced, it cannot be repaired.

    • Cutting the transducer cable will void thewarranty and invalidate the European CE mark.

    Caution: Service and maintenanceThis product contains no user serviceablecomponents. Please refer all maintenanceand repair to authorized Raymarine dealers.Unauthorized repair may affect your warranty.

    General Information

    Water ingressWater ingress disclaimerAlthough the waterproof rating capacity of this product meetsthe IPX6 & IPX7 standard, water intrusion and subsequentequipment failure may occur if the product is subjected tocommercial high-pressure washing. Raymarine will not warrantproducts subjected to high-pressure washing.

    EMC installation guidelinesRaymarine equipment and accessories conform to theappropriate Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) regulations,to minimize electromagnetic interference between equipmentand minimize the effect such interference could have on theperformance of your systemCorrect installation is required to ensure that EMC performanceis not compromised.For optimum EMC performance we recommend that whereverpossible:

    • Raymarine equipment and cables connected to it are:

    – At least 1 m (3 ft) from any equipment transmitting orcables carrying radio signals e.g. VHF radios, cables andantennas. In the case of SSB radios, the distance shouldbe increased to 7 ft (2 m).

    – More than 2 m (7 ft) from the path of a radar beam. Aradar beam can normally be assumed to spread 20 degreesabove and below the radiating element.

    • The product is supplied from a separate battery from that usedfor engine start. This is important to prevent erratic behaviorand data loss which can occur if the engine start does nothave a separate battery.

    • Raymarine specified cables are used.

    • Cables are not cut or extended, unless doing so is detailed inthe installation manual.

    Note: Where constraints on the installation preventany of the above recommendations, always ensure themaximum possible separation between different items ofelectrical equipment, to provide the best conditions for EMCperformance throughout the installation

    Suppression ferritesRaymarine cables may be fitted with suppression ferrites. Theseare important for correct EMC performance. If a ferrite has to beremoved for any purpose (e.g. installation or maintenance), itmust be replaced in the original position before the product isused.Use only ferrites of the correct type, supplied by Raymarineauthorized dealers.

  • Connections to other equipmentRequirement for ferrites on non-Raymarine cablesIf your Raymarine equipment is to be connected to otherequipment using a cable not supplied by Raymarine, asuppression ferrite MUST always be attached to the cable nearthe Raymarine unit.

    2.2 Product overviewThe CP100 is a CHIRP sonar module with DownVisioncapabilities. In conjunction with a compatible multifunctiondisplay, the CP100 provides a detailed view of the water’sbottom structure, enabling you to identify fish and other objectsin the water underneath your vessel.

    The CP100 has the following features:

    • Dual-beam sonar (conical beam and fan beam).

    • Typical depth performance of 600 ft.

    • Water temperature sensing.

    • Support for transom or through-hull DownVision transducers.

    • Low power consumption.

    • 12 V or 24 V operation.

    • Waterproof to IPX 6 and IPX 7.

    • Robust and waterproof high-speed network connection.

  • 2.3 CHIRP Sonar overviewSonar interprets signals from the transducer and builds up adetailed underwater view. The transducer sends pulses ofsound waves into the water and measures the time it takes forthe sound wave to travel to the bottom and back. The returningechoes are affected by bottom structure and by any other objectsin their path, for example reefs, wrecks, shoals or fish.Sonar produces a 25° conical shaped beam, the coverage of theconical beam is the water column directly beneath the vessel.

    Sonar is effective at a range of speeds. In deeper waters theCHIRP bandwidth is automatically restricted to improve bottomlock and the detection of moving objects (e.g. fish) in the widerwater column.CHIRP sonar screen example

    2.4 CHIRP DownVision overviewDownVision interprets signals from the transducer and builds upa detailed underwater view. The transducer sends pulses ofsound waves into the water and measures the time it takes forthe sound wave to travel to the bottom and back. The returningechoes are affected by bottom structure and by any other objectsin their path, for example reefs, wrecks, shoals or fish.DownVision produces a wide–angle side-to-side beam and athin fore-to-aft beam. The coverage of the DownVision beam isa water column directly beneath and to the sides of the vessel.

    DownVision is effective at lower vessel speeds. In deeperwaters the CHIRP bandwidth is automatically restricted toimprove bottom lock and the detection of moving objects (e.g.fish) in the wider water column.The wide, thin beam produces clear target returns. The use ofCHIRP processing and a higher operating frequency providea more detailed image, making it easier to identify bottomstructures around which fish may reside.CHIRP DownVision screen example

  • 4.1 General cabling guidance

    Cable types and lengthIt is important to use cables of the appropriate type and length

    • Unless otherwise stated use only standard cables of thecorrect type, supplied by Raymarine.

    • Ensure that any non-Raymarine cables are of the correctquality and gauge. For example, longer power cable runs mayrequire larger wire gauges to minimize voltage drop along therun.

    Routing cablesCables must be routed correctly, to maximize performance andprolong cable life.

    • Do NOT bend cables excessively. Wherever possible, ensurea minimum bend diameter of 200 mm (8 in) / minimum bendradius of 100 mm (4 in).

    • Protect all cables from physical damage and exposure to heat.Use trunking or conduit where possible. Do NOT run cablesthrough bilges or doorways, or close to moving or hot objects.

    • Secure cables in place using tie-wraps or lacing twine. Coilany extra cable and tie it out of the way.

    • Where a cable passes through an exposed bulkhead ordeckhead, use a suitable watertight feed-through.

    • Do NOT run cables near to engines or fluorescent lights.

    Always route data cables as far away as possible from:

    • other equipment and cables,

    • high current carrying ac and dc power lines,

    • antennae.

    Strain reliefEnsure adequate strain relief is provided. Protect connectorsfrom strain and ensure they will not pull out under extreme seaconditions.

    Circuit isolationAppropriate circuit isolation is required for installations usingboth AC and DC current:

    • Always use isolating transformers or a separate power-inverterto run PC’s, processors, displays and other sensitive electronicinstruments or devices.

    • Always use an isolating transformer with Weather FAX audiocables.

    • Always use an isolated power supply when using a 3rd partyaudio amplifier.

    • Always use an RS232/NMEA converter with optical isolationon the signal lines.

    • Always make sure that PC’s or other sensitive electronicdevices have a dedicated power circuit.

    Cable shieldingEnsure that all data cables are properly shielded that thecable shielding is intact (e.g. hasn’t been scraped off by beingsqueezed through a tight area).

    Making connectionsFollow the steps below to connect network, transducer andpower cables to your unit.1. Ensure that the vessel's power supply is switched off.2. Ensure that the device being connected to the unit has

    been installed in accordance with the installation instructionssupplied with that device.

    3. Ensuring correct orientation push the cable connector fullyonto the corresponding connector on the unit.

    4. Turn the locking collar clockwise to secure the cables.

    The unit is intended for use on dc 'negative' or 'floating' groundpower systems rated from 10.2V to 32V.Raymarine recommends that all power connections are madevia a distribution panel. All equipment must be either:

    • powered from a circuit breaker or switch, with 5A circuitprotection, or

    • powered from a 5A slow blow in-line fuse connected to theRED positive wire of the power cable.

    The unit does not have a power switch. The unit is poweredwhen the power cable is attached to the vessel's power supply.

    Note: The unit should be mounted so that the power cablecan be easily removed if necessary. If the unit is placed in adifficult to reach location, Raymarine recommends installingan on/off switch on the power connection at a point that iseasily accessible.

    Warning: Do NOT connect aSeaTalkng backbone to a 24 V powersupply.To avoid possible damage to equipment, doNOT use the supplied power cable to connect aSeaTalkng backbone to a 24 V power supply.

    Warning: Do NOT power thisproduct from a SeaTalkng backboneTo avoid possible damage to equipment, do NOTuse a SeaTalkng backbone as the power source forthis product.

    Power cable extensionThe product is supplied with a power cable, which can beextended if required.

    • The power cable for each unit in your system should be run asa separate, single length of 2-wire cable from the unit to thevessel's battery or distribution panel.

    • Raymarine recommends a minimum wire gauge of 18AWG(0.82 mm2) for any length of cable extension.

    • Regardless of the length of the cable extension, any cableused should be capable of achieving a minimum voltage atthe unit of 10.8 V with a fully flat battery at 11 V.

    Breakers, fuses and circuit protectionIt is recommended that you fit a thermal breaker or fuse at thedistribution panel.

    Note: The suitable fuse rating for the thermal breaker isdependent on the number of devices you are connecting. If indoubt consult an authorized Raymarine dealer.

    Sharing a breakerWhere more than 1 piece of equipment shares a breaker youmust provide protection for the individual circuits. E.g. byconnecting an in-line fuse for each power circuit.

    Where possible, connect individual items of equipment toindividual circuit breakers. Where this is not possible, useindividual in-line fuses to provide the necessary protection.

    Grounding — Dedicated drain wireThe power cable supplied with this product includes a dedicatedshield (drain) wire for connection to a vessel's RF ground point.It is important that an effective RF ground is connected to thesystem. A single ground point should be used for all equipment.The unit can be grounded by connecting the shield (drain) wireof the power cable to the vessel's RF ground point. On vesselswithout an RF ground system the shield (drain) wire should beconnected directly to the negative battery terminal.The dc power system should be either:

    • Negative grounded, with the negative battery terminalconnected to the vessel's ground.

    • Floating, with neither battery terminal connected to thevessel's ground

    Warning: Positive ground systemsDo not connect this unit to a system which haspositive grounding.

    4.4 Transducer connectionThis product is designed for use with DownVision transducers.

    • Refer to 3.5 Compatible transducers for a list of compatibletransducers.

    • Transducers must be installed in accordance with theinstructions provided with the transducer.

    • Raymarine recommends a maximum of one cable extensionfor any single transducer cable.

    • For best performance, keep all cable lengths to a minimum.

    General location requirementsThe unit should be mounted where it will be:

    • protected from physical damage and excessive vibration.

    • well ventilated and away from heat sources.

    • away from any potential ignition source such as an engineroom, near fuel tanks or a gas locker.

    When choosing a location for the unit, consider the followingpoints to ensure reliable and trouble-free operation:

    • Access — there must be sufficient space to enable cableconnections to the unit, avoiding tight bends in the cable.

    • Diagnostics— the unit must be mounted in a location wherethe diagnostics LED is easily visible.

  • 6.1 Initial power on testOnce the unit has been correctly installed check that it isoperating correctly.After powering on, the unit will take approximately 50 secondsto bootup, from powering on through to normal operation LEDstatus indicator should be GREEN. If the LED status indicatoris not green then refer to the troubleshooting section of thishandbook.Open the Fishfinder application on your connected multifunctiondisplay and ensure that it is operating correctly.

    Multiple sonar operationFor systems with multiple sonar modules, only one sonar mayoperate at any one time.Before attempting to use the fishfinder application on yourmultifunction display, use one of the methods described in thisdocument to ensure that only one sonar module is active onyour system.

    Switching between internal and external sonar modulesIf you want to switch your active sonar module between internaland external follow the steps below.1. Power off the active sonar module.

    • Internal sonar module is turned off from the Fishfinderapplication menu: Menu > Set-up > Sounder Set-up >Internal Sounder.

    • External sonar modules should be turned off at the powersupply.

    2. Wait for the No Sounder Source Available message to bedisplayed in the Fishfinder application.

    3. Power on the new sonar module.

    Switching between multiple external sonar modulesIf your system includes multiple external sonar modules youmust complete the procedure detailed below to ensure only onesonar module is active at a time.

    Note: If your multifunction display has an internal sonarmodule, complete the procedure detailed in Switchingbetween internal and external sonar modules BEFOREattempting the following:

    1. Power off ALL external sonar modules, either at the powersupply or by disconnecting the power cable from the sonarmodule.

    2. Wait for the No Sounder Source Available message to bedisplayed in the Fishfinder application.

    3. Power on the external sonar module that you want to use.

    6.2 Software updatesThe software running on the product can be updated.

    • Raymarine periodically releases software updates to improveproduct performance and add new features.

    • You can update the software for your product using aconnected and compatible multifunction display.

    • Refer to www.raymarine.com/software/ for the latest softwareupdates and the software update procedure for your product.

    • If in doubt as to the correct procedure for updating yourproduct software, refer to your dealer or Raymarine technicalsupport.

  • 6.4 Sonar troubleshootingProblems with the sonar and their possible causes and solutions are described here.

    Unit power supply fault. Check the unit power supply and cables.

    Other unit fault. Refer to the instructions supplied with the unit.

    Check that the unit is correctly connected to a Raymarine networkswitch. If a crossover coupler or other coupler cable / adapter is used,check all connections (as applicable).

    Check the status of the Raymarine network switch (if applicable).

    SeaTalkhs / RayNet network problem.

    Check that SeaTalkhs/ RayNet cables are free from damage.

    Sonar data not available onmultifunction display.

    Software mismatch between equipmentmay prevent communication.

    Contact Raymarine technical support.

    Gain or Frequency settings may beinappropriate for present conditions.

    Check the sonar presets, gain and frequency settings.

    Unit power supply fault. Check the voltage from the power supply, if this is too low it can affectthe transmitting power of the unit.

    Unit cable fault. Ensure that the power, transducer and all other cables to the unit areproperly connected and free from damage.

    Check that the transducer is mounted correctly and is clean.Transducer fault.

    If you have a transom mount transducer, check that the transducerhasn't kicked-up due to hitting an object.

    Other unit fault. Refer to the instructions supplied with the unit.

    Vessel stationary. Fish arches are not displayed if the vessel is stationary; fish will appearon the display as straight lines.

    High vessel speed Turbulence around the transducer may be confusing the unit.

    Problematic depth readings or sonarimage.

    Scroll speed set to zero Adjust the scroll speed.

    • Examine cables for signs of damage, such as chafing, cuts ornicks.

    • Check that the cable connectors are firmly attached

    Note: Cables checks should be carried out with the powersupply switched off.

    Warning: High voltageThis product contains high voltage. Adjustmentsrequire specialized service procedures and toolsonly available to qualified service technicians.There are no user serviceable parts or adjustments.The operator should never remove the cover orattempt to service the product.

    7.2 Unit cleaning instructionsThe unit does not require regular cleaning. However, if you findit necessary to clean the unit, please follow the steps below:1. Ensure power is switched off.2. Wipe unit clean with a damp cloth.3. If necessary, use a mild detergent solution to remove grease

    marks.

  • 7.3 Transducer care and cleaningGrowth can collect on the bottom of the transducer, this canreduce performance. To prevent the build-up of sea growth, coatthe transducer with a thin layer of water-based antifouling paint,available from your local marine dealer. Reapply paint every 6months or at the beginning of each boating season. Certainsmart transducers have restrictions on where antifouling paint isapplied. Please consult your dealer.

    Note: Transducers with a temperature sensor may not workproperly if painted.

    Note: Never use ketone-based paint. Ketones can attackmany plastics, possibly damaging the sensor.

    Note: Never use spray paint on your transducer. Sprayingincorporates tiny air bubbles, and a marine transducer cannottransmit properly through air.

    Use a soft cloth and mild household detergent to clean thetransducer. If the fouling is severe, remove the growth witha tough cleaning pad, such as a green Scotch BriteTM padfor example. Be careful to avoid scratching the face of thetransducer.

    Note: Harsh cleaning solvents such as acetone may damagethe transducer.
