As a member, you are required to maintain

and develop your skills throughout your

career. You must confirm that you are doing

so by making a CPD declaration every year.

CPD hours cannot be carried forward and

each triennium will start afresh with a mini-

mum of 30 hours required per year accumu-

lating to 120 hours over the triennium.

Continuing professional development

(CPD) keeps you up-to-date with valuable

knowledge and the skills necessary to suc-

ceed in the fields of business and finance.

The corporate and financial sector look at

the members of any professional body with

an expectation for updated knowledge and

skills and will not accept any member of a

professional body that does not conform to

some form of CPD. Members of the pro-

fessional associations thus have a profes-

sional duty to develop the skill and

knowledge base for themselves.

How to gain CPD hours? Maintaining the Credential

CPAs must obtain a minimum of 30 hours of Continuing

Professional Development (CPD) every 12-month peri-

od and pay annual subscription dues to stay current in

their profession. CPAs are required to certify CPE/CPD

compliance by the end of their anniversary month either

(1) online or (2) by calling a Member Services Repre-

sentative. A CPA's anniversary month is the month

membership is renewed each year

CPE/CPD Requirements

CPAs will earn 30 hours of CPE per twelve month

period. If a CPA has earned more than 30 hours of CPE

in their previous reporting period, they may carry

forward up to 10 of these extra hours to meet their

current CPE requirements. The detail is given below:

In case of an audit we also accept other formats

including word, excel and email documents.

to themselves, their employers and the

community to plan and participate in a

continuing education program, tailored to

meet their own needs.

If you hold the status of Associate, Fellow

or if retired and provide public accounting

services (whether or not for reward), You

must do at least 30 hours of CPD each year

and you may be required to submit records

and a diary of your CPD activities.

CPD Credit Hours: Measurement

CPD, on its own, does not provide assurance that all members will provide

high quality professional service all the time. Doing so involves more than

maintaining professional competence; it involves applying knowledge with

professional judgment and an objective attitude. Also, there cannot be

assurance that every person who participates in a CPD program will obtain

the full benefits of that program, because of variances in individual

commitment and capacity to learn. Nevertheless, it is certain that members

who are not up-to-date on current technical and general knowledge pertinent

to their work will not be able to provide professional services competently.

Therefore, despite the inherent limitations of any CPD program, a CPD

requirement is important in preserving the standard of the profession and also

in maintaining public confidence

It is the responsibility of the individual member to develop and maintain

professional competence necessary to provide high quality services to clients,

employers and other stakeholders. Members are free to choose from the

opportunities both locally and internationally available, as approved by the

CPD Committee, to fulfill their relevant CPD needs. This directive prescribes

that member:

Foster a commitment to lifelong learning

Establish benchmarks for developing and maintaining the professional

competence necessary to protect the public interest; and

Monitor and enforce the continuing development and maintenance of

professional competence

The Methodology of CPD

CPD Approach

CPD can be achieved by at least three different approaches:

In-put based approaches by establishing a set amount of learning

activity that is considered appropriate to develop and maintain

competence.

Out-put based approaches by requiring professional accountants to

demonstrate, by way of outcomes, that they develop and maintain

professional competence.

Combination approaches by effectively and efficiently combining

elements of the input and output based approaches, setting the amount

of learning activity required and measuring the outcomes achieved.

The Association has adopted a combination approach before moving towards

a comprehensive output-based system.

CPD Requirements Every member is required to complete 30 hours in one year or 120

hours in every 3 years period with a minimum of 30 hours in a year.

REQUIREMENTS

NON-COMPLIANCE

PROVISIONS

ORGANIZATION The CPD Committee of the association has the responsibility for

the establishment of directive and overall coordination of CPD

activities for its members in across the world. Country Chapters,

with the CPD Committee in execution of CPD activities

hours in every 3 years period with a minimum of 30 hours in a year.

by the CPD Committee and if deemed appropriate the matter may

be referred to the Executive Council.

be treated as Remote Areas for the purpose of CPD. CPD Hours

of their CPD records. It is also recommended that the member make a

copy of the relevant reading and certify that they have read it by signing it

off and retaining it with the annual reading schedule. This interim

arrangement will be reviewed at the end of the first three-year cycle
