3 ways to improve your chances of getting a job

1. DON’T rely on online application's

This is only one method to find a job. Face to face meetings or referrals increase your chances of getting a job exponentially. Over 50% of jobs are not advertised. Make a two page cv come to life by networking.

2. Interview for “the” job.....not just “a” job.

If you don’t really know why you want the job, it will be obvious.

Clients want people who are passionate and interested in the

specific role that they are interviewing for.

Always know why you want the job. If

you make up a reason, employers will see through it.

3. Believe you’ll get the Job

People focus ten times more on what they see than what they hear.

Your body language will show an interviewer whether or not you have the confidence and self-belief needed for this

role. Attitude and passion are critical.

Computerjobs.ie has published results this week of their survey of 18,000 IT professionals, and the future is bright.

83% of respondents said they were ‘Confident’ or ‘Very Confident’ about their employability over the next 12 months.

20% of those who are out of work do not have a 3rd level qualification, indicating the importance of 3rd level education in this sector.

Only 6% of IT Engineers have seen their salaries decrease over the last 12 months.

72% feel they are either “underpaid” or “not sure” if they are being paid the ‘Going rate’.

Only 7% of IT Engineers think their employer will be letting IT staff go in the next 12 months.

According to the survey results, the main things employers need to do in order to keep their talented staff are: ‘More money’ 44%,  ’More training’ 19% and ‘More respect’ 11%.

Across the happiness index, 94% of IT Professionals say they are either ‘Very happy” ‘or ‘Happy enough’ with their choice of career 2012.

And finally, job websites continue to be the No.1 source of finding IT jobs.67% say they either “don’t rate” or are “not sure” of social media as a source for finding IT jobs.

Oct 2011 - Just five companies control 64% of all online spending. (Incredibly, Google controls 46% of all online spending.)
