The SEQ region is the fastest growing region

in Australia.

Employment and lifestyle factors are drawing

people from across Australia to the region.

Growth rates pose a challenge for the SEQ

region.

Strategic infrastructure projects and

investment are needed to deal with congestion

and its impacts on economic growth.

The Council of Mayors (SEQ) is investigating ways of funding key infrastructure through proven approaches similar to Tax Increment Financing.

Development brings economic growth which increases revenue to local, state and federal government.

The different approach proposed recognises that increase in revenue and mounts the case for a share of the increased revenue being directed to servicing debt for infrastructure.

This approach has worked in the United Kingdom (UK) and the United States of America (USA).

The developer pays – has been the more recent approach.

This is ultimately passed on to the home and business owner and government recipients of increased revenue don’t contribute.

Some large developments are not proceeding because the feasibility does not add up

As a result SEQ is missing out on a significant amount of growth.

By taking the different approach, this can be avoided.

Feasibility will stack up, developments will go ahead and government revenue streams will increase.
