AT HOME IN BOYNTON BEACH
You may have heard the talk all around South Florida…Boynton Beach
is the new hot spot for redevelopment. The third largest city in Palm
Beach County is undergoing a renaissance of epic proportions. Just like
its predecessors in downtown Delray Beach to the south and West Palm
Beach to the north, this ideally located community has been targeted for
growth with the support of an active government CRA program. Boynton
Beach’s prime location between two major airports—14 miles from PBIA
and 37 miles from Ft. Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport – is just
one aspect that makes it so appealing. With some of the finest beaches
in the state and a dynamic waterfront, Boynton Beach is poised to join
Delray and West Palm Beach as the next vibrant redevelopment success
story. It’s our pleasure to share a glimpse of Boynton Beach’s future.

PUBLIX OPENS NEW STORE

In February, 500 Ocean Development received the green light
and funding for a major downtown Boynton Beach project, the
catalyst for the downtown redevelopment. The $4.4 million multi-
use complex will be home to 341 luxury rental apartments, 13,300
sf of retail and 6,500 sf of office space. To ensure the project’s
success, the Boynton Beach Community Redevelopment agency
agreed to fund the 4.4 million over a 10-year period, using tax
revenue created from the project. The landmark project will
be located at the southwest corner of Federal Highway and
Ocean Avenue, near the Boynton Marina and Hurricane Alley’s
restaurant. The project is expected to bring 600 new tenants and
more daytime activity to the city’s downtown. Board Member
David Merker sees the project as an open invitation to other
developers to join in the renaissance of Boynton Beach.
500 OCEAN DEVELOPMENT APPROVED
Parts of Ocean Avenue and Federal
Highway will soon be upgraded with
a new look. Two new “Welcome to
Boynton Beach” signs will be enhanced
with street lighting and sidewalk
updates along the north and south
sides of Ocean Avenue.

FITNESS ZONE ADDED TO LOCAL PARK
The latest addition to the $1.7 million Congress Avenue Barrier
Free park is a 17-station outdoor gym. The “Fitness Zone” is a
recreational area where people with our without disabilities
may exercise side-by-side, using elliptical machines and sit-up
benches and performing leg presses. “We’re just very, very
proud to take this unique park and make it more special and
providing an added opportunity for people of abilities to play
together,” said Wally Majors, the city’s recreation and parks
director. “The intent is to allow people to enjoy each other.
Whether it be grandparents of a handicapped child or a
disabled veteran who wants to play with his son. We just want
to keep everyone together.”
TOWN SQUARE
CONCEPTUAL PLANS
COMPLETE
The City of Boynton Beach, working with the
Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council,
has developed a conceptual plan for the
development of Town Square. The project
encompasses 18 city-owned acres and
it integral to the redevelopment of the
downtown district. Some ideas for the area
included a new City Hall, a renovated Old
High School with civic uses, making the
Library accessible to pedestrians and using
the current City Hall as the site for a new
mixed-use development.

KINETIC ART INSTALLED FOR INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM
Nine pieces of iconic kinetic art was installed in Boynton
Beach last fall in preparation for the International Kinetic
Art Exhibit & Symposium held in February. The event
attracted artists from around the country. The nine
pieces or art are mostly powered by the wind and human
interaction. The artwork is one display along East Ocean
Avenue for a one-year term. To learn more about the
program, visit www.IntlKineticArtEvent.org.
A FROTHY, HOPPY RENAISSANCE
The Boynton Beach CRA has focused on food and
dining as core components of the redevelopment
plan. In addition to long-time local favorites like
Hurrican Alleys, the CRA has spent more than $220,000
to assist in the startup of several new restaurants and
bars. Now the City is emerging as a libation destination
with the opening of bars such as Sweetwater, The
Backyard and Due South, a microbrewery now
distributing throughout the area. More are on the way.
“If you find us, you’re obviously looking for something
cool, and you’re going to bring your cool friends,”
says Sean Iglehart part-owner of Sweetwater. Most of
the new establishments pride themselves on serving
local and craft beer, reflecting the trend in the market
moving to unique entertainment venues. The area has
also welcomed Biergarten, a European-style tavern
with seven table taps where patrons can pour their
own beer, billed by the ounce.
