Crafting a future for children in need

© Childaid 2014

Engaged for deprived children – for a better future.

We want to give deprived children access to education to enable

them to build their own future.

We are a growing, active and professional team, mostly

composed of volunteers.

Our first projects are in the foothills of the Himalayas, in poor

regions of Northeast India, Nepal and Laos.

In cooperation with local partners we implement model projects

and personally accompany them for success.

We need your support to open the gate to a better future for many

poor kids and needy youngsters.

Our motivation:

Who we are:

Our focus:

How we work:

Please help us:

1

© Childaid 2014

Still a large number of children world-wide remains hungry, has to live

in dismal environments and suffers from avoidable diseases.

2

Motivation

© Childaid 2014

Millions of children are exploited in child labour

and do not have a real childhood.

3

Motivation

© Childaid 2014

They do not have a chance to live a decent future,

only because they were born in the wrong place.

4

Motivation

© Childaid 2014

Studies document: Every Euro invested into eduction brings multiple

returns. Education is an effective weapon against poverty and disease.

5

Motivation

© Childaid 2014

All governments have promised to give access to quality primary

school education to all girls and boys free of charge until 2015.

6

UN Millennium Development Goals for 2015:

2. Achieve universal primary education

Ensure that all boys and girls complete a full course of primary schooling

Motivation

© Childaid 2014

However: Achieving this goal is far off. Officially, more than 50 Mio

children do not attend school. Shadow numbers may be double.

7

Motivation

© Childaid 2014

As a charity for children and young people, we try to foster sustainable

structural change by giving young people access to education.

8

We are engaged for a better future for

deprived children in Southeast-Asia, the

poorest of the poor.

In our projects we work in close

partnership with the people in the ‘South’

aligned with reliable local NGOs.

Our support is designed to be structural

and professional. We intend to drive

measurable, sustainable improvements.

Our first project regions are in the foothills of the Himalaya,

in Northeast India, Nepal and Laos. In Myanmar and Bangladesh we are

preparing to start programs with partners.

In NE-India there are 45 Mio. people in an area

about as large as West Germany.

These regions have breathtaking landscapes

and areas of untouched natural beauty.

10

Region

© Childaid 2014

Over thousands of years, a wealth of cultures has developed there.

11

Region

© Childaid 2014

The traditional agricultural techniques are tea, paddy and

slash&burn in the mountains, not sufficient to feed a growing population.

12

Region

© Childaid 2014

Many special skills, deeply rooted family bonds, and the support

networks of the villages have been preserved over hundreds of years.

13

Region

© Childaid 2014

Daily life is frequently primitive, tough manual work

without support from machines or animals.

14

Region

© Childaid 2014

In rural areas, there is almost no supply of electricity, water or

medical suport.

15

Region

© Childaid 2014

Road infrastructure is scarce, public transport over-crowded.

16

Region

© Childaid 2014

Climate change and cutting of forests enhance negative impact of

natural powers.

17

Region

© Childaid 2014

60-90 % of the people cannot read nor write.

In the rural areas there is no school for many children.

18

Region

© Childaid 2014

Poverty leads to migration into the cities of families, but also of many

children and adolescents alone. Many end up in the slums.

19

Region

© Childaid 2014

The dismal situation of the children in the Northeast with high child

mortality has motivated us to start our supporting projects there.

20

Region

© Childaid 2014

What can be done to bridge the gap between the poor and the rich?

21

Projects

© Childaid 2014

Our response: we focus on the education of children, youth

and young adults, who otherwise would not have access to schools.

22

Projects

© Childaid 2014

Our projects supplement the governmental educational system with focused

offerings for all age groups. We now reach almost 30.000 young people

All our projects depend upon and foster the participation of the

village communities. We invest into people, not buildings.

24

Projects

© Childaid 2014

2014 we have been able to invest 1.000.000 Euro into projects. With this

we reach about 30.000 children in about 400 villages directly.

One-year intensive courses with 20-25 boys and 20-25 girls bridge the

gap to the normal school system. Projects

© Childaid 2014

Learning a vocational skill in one of our 80 non-formal centers helps

annually more than 1500 young people to start earning a family income.

28

Projects

© Childaid 2014

About 150 teachers help more than 6700 kids born in refugee camps

or poor villages to bridge the gap to the normal school system.

29

Projects

© Childaid 2014

In day care centers we support neglected tribal children in the

mountains of Arunachal Pradesh for an improved start into life.

30

Projects

© Childaid 2014

220 orphan children have found a new family in the homes of Snehalaya

and are being prepared for a good future.

31

Projects

© Childaid 2014

In 35 neighbourhood schools we educate 1500 children from the slum

dwellings, provide an extra meal and a preparation for a better future.

32

Projects

We aim to support the development of

a new generation of leaders for the Northeast.

The state of Hessen has awarded us

the label of „best charitable foundation“ in 2011.

42

„We have honored the charitable foundation Childaid Network with the prize of

best foundation. What convinced us in particular were the concepts and the

implementation of the projects.

The foundation puts special focus on sustainable long-term changes, which

help the children to grow up to adults that can support their own families.

In doing this they concentrate on the most needy areas, the poorest of the

poor, girls and a structural build-up of access to education. Special efforts are

invested into building networks and exploiting synergies with others.“

Every Euro makes a difference. Without deductions

we invest all donations into the projects for the children.

43

• For 2 Euro we can buy a life-saving moskito net for an

orphan kid.

• 5 Euro are sufficient for the material for a school

uniform, tailored by the mothers.

• With 20 Euro we can pay for a class set of exercise

books and pencils.

• 50 Euro are a valuable contribution for the extension of

a school library.

• 100 Euro finance a day of further eduation and related

travel for a group of teachers.

• 200 Euro is the cost for the tools for a small start-up

entrepreneur.

• With 1000 Euro we can install a complete computer

workplace which allows 20 young people per year to

acquire relevant skills for a job.

How can you help?

44

Every occasion for

celebrations can also

be a trigger for help.

The money for a

bouquet of flowers or a

tie, which we do not

really need for life, can

save lives.

Why don‘t you put

access to education

for kids onto your next

birthday wishlist?
