Introduction to DSS

• What is the Mission of DSS?

“DSS supports national security and the warfighter, secures the nation's technological base, and oversees the protection of US and foreign classified information in the hands of industry.

We accomplish this mission by: Clearing industrial facilities, personnel and associated information systems; collecting, analyzing and providing threat information to industry and government partners; managing foreign ownership control and influence in cleared industry, providing advice and oversight to industry; delivering security education and training; and, providing information technology services that support the industrial security mission of DoD and its partner agencies.”

JPAS History

• JPAS was created by the U.S. Air Force in 2001.• The system has approximately 53,000 active

users and averages over 2,000 concurrent users at peak hours of operation.

• It became the “system of record” for Industry on October 1, 2004.

• There are currently over 28,000 Industry users of JPAS.

• The Defense Security Service is the executive agent within the DoD for JPAS.

Where Does the NISPOM Come In?

NISPOM 2-200 (b) – Then and Now

“The CSA will provide written notice when an employee’s PCL has been granted, denied, suspended, or revoked”

“When the CSA has designated a database as the system of record for contractor eligibility and access, the contractor shall be responsible for annotating and maintaining the accuracy of their employees’ access records”

Separation Report

1.Why is it important?

• Clears the association with your CAGE.

• Begins the two year countdown for archiving the virtual personnel file (Person Summary Page).

• If one category in an individuals record has not been separated properly, then the record will never archive.
