Creating my Double Page

Spread

Page 2: Creating my Double Page Spread

• I started my editing this photo by removing the background on it using the background eraser on Photoshop.

• I also increased the brightness, saturation and contrast on Photoshop.

• I then inserted the picture onto my pages on InDesign using the Place tool.

• Using the Text tool I inserted my double page spread by copying and pasting it into the box.

• To make the text go around the image, I selected Windows>Text Wrap. Then I chose the option to detect edges so the text writes around the image.

• I then edited the edges by selecting the white cursor to put the text as close to the image as possible in my first paragraph.

• I also included a title which is the same as the one I used on my front cover as a coverline, a print screened image.

• I also included a blue strip to separate the two columns of my article

This made it easier to read for the audience.

• At the bottom of my pages I included the magazine website link and the page number and issue number.

I created these on Photoshop and print screened them to get the same colour I have used on the front cover and contents. This made sure I kept a consistent house style and the footer the same on contents and double page spread.

• I realised that my double page spread was not long enough, and left a tried to add an image there but it didn’t fit with the layout.

• I decided to extend my article by adding another question to the interview.

• I also included a pull quote as this is a common feature used on double page spreads like in NME and Billboard that I analysed.

• I also included a caption for my image to give the audience more information about the picture.

• To add more colour to my double page spread, I used the same screen shots of the flowers that I used for my background and edited it behind the title.

I edited the background out of the title on Photoshop using the background eraser tool and placed in back onto the page. I then copy and pasted the picture of the flowers, putting them behind the title. This kept a consistent house style – linking to the front cover and made the page look more exciting.

• This is my final product for my double page spread.
