Creating My Front Cover
• I removed the background on this picture by using the erase background tool on Photoshop.
I did this to give it a plain white background so text can be read easily over the background.
• I then edited the image to make it look better quality, I did this on Photoshop.
I increased the brightness, the saturation and contrast.
• I included screenshots of a flowered pattern and duplicated each image for the background of my magazine.
I used flowers to represent the old-school indie of hippies and the colour of the flowers went well with my colour scheme.
• Based on my research, I set the price at £1.99 which I put on my cover to give the audience information about the magazine before they purchase it.
• For my coverlines I used different fonts for each one and made them different sizes.
I did this to follow the general layout of magazine covers as they usually use different font styles on their front covers.
• I included a screenshot of the text ‘Charlotte St’ which I got from dafont.com. I put this box at a tilt to make sure all the text around it can fit in and give it an edgy, handmade look.
I added the Drop Shadow effect onto this box to make it stand out against the background and make it look 3D.
• I also included a screenshot of the title ALT which I got from the same website. I overlapped two different fronts – Moonflower and Bianca.
I did this as I liked both fonts and though they mixed well together to give me the title I wanted.
• I followed my drafts by including a puff – I originally decided to use a blue circle which matched my colour scheme and the Stroke effect was used around it to make it stand out.
I didn’t like the puff I had included to decided to remove it from my magazine. I didn’t like the colour or the fonts I had used.
• I then decided I would include a puff again by adding a circle using the computer eye shape, and writing the text around it.
I got this idea from the front cover Q magazine that I analysed.
• I then made the circle black so it got the readers attention and stood out. I made the text at different angles to make it more interesting for the audience to read and I made the text fit in with the colour scheme of my magazine – White, black and blue.
• This is the finished product of my front cover.
