What’s an FSA ID?
•A secure federal log-in for students and parents• It allows a parent to sign the FAFSA and a student to access several different federal student aid websites, including:– FAFSA (FAFSA.gov)–My Federal Student Aid (StudentAid.gov)–National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS.ed.gov)–StudentLoans.gov
•The FSA ID replaces the now-retired Federal PIN

Who needs an FSA ID?
•Any student who needs to submit the FAFSA or access federal financial aid records•Any parent who needs to sign the FAFSA–Every dependent student will need one parent to sign the FAFSA–One parent can use the same FSA ID for multiple children

Email, Username, & Password
•Each email address can only be associated with one FSA ID•Not required to have an email address (but recommended)

Personal Identification Information
•You must have a valid Social Security Number (SSN) to get an FSA ID•Use your first name, middle initial, and last name exactly as it appears on your Social Security card

• If you had a Federal PIN, you’ll be asked to link it to your FSA ID•Linking your PIN will transfer your Social Security match to your FSA ID

Your FSA ID is Created

Timeline
•You can complete, sign, and submit a FAFSA immediately after creating an FSA ID• If you didn’t provide a PIN, your information will be sent to the Social Security Administration (SSA) for matching•You will receive an e-mail with your Social Security matching results within 1 to 3 business days (or check under Edit My FSA ID )•Until your information is verified with the SSA, you won’t be able to correct your FAFSA, submit a renewal FAFSA, sign a Master Promissory Note, or complete exit counseling•Your FSA ID username will never expire, but your password will need to be reset every 18 months•Though the FAFSA doesn’t open until Jan 1st, you can get an FSA ID anytime
