Creation of STL File in 3Shape® for manual export

When the design process is completed and desired shape of the prosthesis is achieved we have to close the Designer. The design was completed and saved:

In Dental Manager choose the job you want to export, click on it with right mouse and select “Advanced”. Now choose “Generate CAM Output” (or press F7):

The files will be created in directory C:\3shape\ManufacturingDir\... (Folder with name of the job file), for example:

Opening the folder you can manage the .stl files. They are ready for upload on http://www.dess-lab.com

When the desired form of abutment (and crown - if applicable) is achieved we can proceed to .stl file creation. If it’s necessary the surface can be merged – tick this option if Laser Melting technology will be used and wait for processing. The progress indicator will show current progress. When the process has finished the resulting output files will show in box:

We have to minimize the CAD window and using mouse we can drag and drop the file to another directory - for example to our Desktop - repeating operation for every designed piece. The .stl files are ready to be upload via http://www.dess-lab.com

After this operation we can click “Finish” to close the Wizard:

Another option will be to load the desired job and click “Open with Explorer” in DentalDB:

The new window with files will pop-up. Here we can choose .stl files for upload via http://www.dess-lab.com. Please be careful to choose .stl files corresponding to prosthesis:

When the design process is completed and desired shape of the prosthesis is achieved we have to route order forward for production selection. The most convenient way to do this would be to click the completion icon (“STANDBY” button):

A window with confirmation of route ordering and surface merging will pop-up. If sure that want to proceed to fabrication without any additional changes, click “YES”. On the contrary select “NO” and continue with redesign. Than return to the previous step. Check surface merging only if the object is designed for milling:

If you do so, the preview of merged object will be seen. We have to choose again the completion icon (“STANDBY” button). After this step all files will be routed to Production Management for Production Choice:

A window will open with name and location to save the file. If you need to rename it please remember to leave the extension .stl at the end. Otherwise the file will be illegible for CAM programs. Selecting “Save” you´ll obtain the file ready for upload via http://www.dess-lab.com
