The Patient Appreciation Day is a dayset aside for our office as a special recog-nition time for all our staff, dentists, hygienists, EDDA’s, clinicians and theteam leader to stop and seriously reflecton their patient care stewardship andpersonal dedication to patient satisfac-tion.

Though every day should be patientrecognition day, the Patient AppreciationDay is a unique occasion for all peopleworking in our office to reconfirm anddemonstrate their renewed commitmentto our patients’ care, well being, and sat-isfaction. It is a day to remind theMortenson Dental staff that all shouldput “care-ism” before capitalism lest weforget our reason for “being”.

Toward that end, we invite all of our

Our goal is to energize thehuman side of patient caring and getback to what’s important – treating ourpatients like they are our own family.

It is a common com-plaint: roof shingles thatfail too soon, leaving frus-trated homeowners ask-ing; why didn’t it last?

Roof Time has theanswer. According toJustin Shoemaker, a com-

pany estimator, it has todo with far more than theshingles. “Shingles todayare well made, butdepend on what I call the‘Energy Trilogy.’ heexplains. “It’s due to theventilation, insulation,

and radiation, not beingproperly balanced.”

The problem startswith unbalanced ventila-tion, not enough atticinsulation, and no radia-tion barrier. Ventilationand insulation are now

required by code, but aradiation barrier is not. Therefore, most buildersand roofers don’t take itinto consideration, accord-ing to Shoemaker.

Roof Time is an OwensCorning PreferredContractor and is one ofonly three roofers locallywho have obtained theadded certification as aTOP OF THE HOUSEroofer-insulator. “We havethe knowledge,” saysShoemaker. “We havequality products. Butmore importantly, we arepassionate about servingour customer. We knowthat our integrity dependson our service.”

A Roof Time quoteincludes options forinstalling a roof ventila-tion system that meets orexceeds the FHA specifi-cation, and also increasesthe attic insulation to theDepartment of Energy rec-

ommended level of R-60.With the current 1500 dol-lar tax credit that is avail-able, it’s like getting FREEinsulation added to yourhome.

The estimators alsooffer the option ofinstalling a radiant barrierthat reduces an attic’stemperature by as muchas 50 degrees every day.

Using these techniquesRoof Time is confidantthat homeowners can addanother 5-10 years to theirroof’s warranty, and thebest part according toTerry Littleton, a RoofTime estimator?“Homeowners tell usevery day that when theycompare our bid to otherroofers, we are doing somuch more; but our pricematches up with their

immediate dividends too,as you’ll be able to save 20percent on your monthlyenergy bill and receive asmuch as 1500 dollars ingovernment credit fromthe American RecoveryAct that goes through2010! As Shoemakersays,” If you are buying aroof anyway, why not besure it lasts and get paidfor doing it right the firsttime, by qualifying for thetax credit?!”

Rooftime began back in1995, when Ricky Feltnerand his wife Sandy start-ed a small family busi-ness. By 1999, PreferredRoofing’s four estimators(which included one sonand one son-in-law) andterrific work crews had

earned a ranking in theTop 100 Contractors inAmerica, and had sales inexcess of two million dol-lars!

Ricky passed away atthe end of 1999, and thecompany struggled tocarry on with-out hisdynamic leadership.Today Ricky’s legacy hasbeen preserved by no lessthan FIVE roofing contrac-tors that were once part ofhis vision, all successfullyoperating their own com-panies using the sameprinciples and ideals heestablished over 15 yearsago!

At Roof Time, Sandy isstill answering the calls(even at nights and on theweekends) and Ricky’sgrandson Justin is now aproject estimator!

Roof Time is a truefamily owned and operat-ed business with deepcommunity roots; over fif-teen year’s business expe-rience, and is now intotheir 3RD generation ofserving Cincinnati andNorthern Kentucky!

Roof Time’s attentionto the details has earnedthem the prestigiousAngie’s List Super ServiceAward for the past fouryears in a row as well as,the Press CommunitiesFavorite Roofer for 2009!

Estimators arrive ontime and prepared, inneatly lettered vehiclesand uniforms; inspect theattic portion of the roof, then inspect and measurefrom the roof top (notfrom the ground like mostcompanies have started todo). An estimate can beprepared right from theirvehicles or emailed backthe same day!

Estimates are free andinclude color digital pic-tures of what they find.Roof Time utilizes all thebest of today’s technologysuch as Thermal imagingcameras to pinpoint hid-den leaks and decay, andsatellite measurementsoftware to offer ‘to theinch measurements” for“to the penny pricing’.

Matracia Contracting Inc. would liketo take this opportunity to introduce youto the concrete lifting process.

Concrete lifting is a process in whicha concrete slab is raised back to its origi-nal position. It is the economical alterna-tive to tearing out and replacing con-crete.

Your concrete is lifted by drilling oneor more holes into the surface of theconcrete slab, and pumping a cement-based material through the holes. Thisfills any voids and displaces any stand-ing water under the slab which mayhave occurred by settling or rodentsburrowing under it. We continue pump-ing until enough material is pumpedunder the slab to raise it back to its orig-inal position.

The cement-based material is a sandyloam containing lime and cement. It isnon-toxic and environmentally safe.

This process works on any concreteslab, sidewalks, porches, garage floors, driveways, house floors, steps, pooldecks and more.

Their portable pump allows us to goanywhere on your property withoutdamage to your lawn or landscaping.Their trucks stay on the street. There isno mess and no heavy equipment.

As you are researching foryour new granite countertops, you have undoubtedly run acrossa wide variety of granite compa-nies. It shouldn’t matter if you’retalking to a sales associate at oneof the big box stores or someoneat a smaller, more family-friendlystore, right? Wrong! There areseveral differences in the processof the manufacturing of yournew countertops that you need tobe aware of so that you can makean informed decision.

At many big box stores andbig national chain stores, thegranite is imported in sheetscalled “blanks.” These blanks arecut and fabricated to pre-deter-mined shapes and sizes andtherefore are very restrictive as tohow they can be used for yourparticular project. Due to the sizeand shape restrictions of these

pieces of granite, your kitchenwill often end up with moreseams in undesirable locationsthan if your new countertopswere fabricated from full slabs ofgranite. In some instances, depending on the size and layoutof your kitchen, using these gran-ite blanks simply will not work.

At Excellence By Nature, eachproject is custom designed, fabri-cated and installed for YOURspecific project. We do not usethe prefabricated blanks and tryto conform your countertops totheir limited sizes and shapes.Instead, we will cut your coun-tertops from a full slab of granite.

Choosing your particulargranite color from a small sampleis permissible but selecting thespecific slab that will be used foryour project is an absolute MUST.Due to granite’s natural proper-

ties, each slab is unique and youwill want to be able to select theexact slab that will be used foryour countertops. Before yourslab is cut for your new counter-tops, we will let you hand-selectyour full granite slab from ourlarge on-site slab selection inFlorence, KY.

Many granite companies, including your local big boxstores, subcontract the template, fabrication or installation of gran-ite and other types of counter-tops. At Excellence By Nature, each granite countertop is tem-plated, fabricated and installedby our specialized crew ofexperts in the field. Keeping allof this work in house allows usto maintain a high level of quali-ty control with all ends of theprocess of fabricating andinstalling your new countertops.

It also allows you to work hands-on with our crew in the produc-tion of your new countertops. Ifyou choose, you can work sideby side with our shop foreman tolay out your job on the graniteslab of your choice.

At Excellence By Nature, youwill receive the personalized,hands-on customer service thatyou deserve. With a qualifiedstaff with over 50 years of com-bined experience, you can restassured that your new counter-tops will be installed with a highcaliber of quality and detail.Located only 5 minutes fromFlorence Mall, the experts atExcellence By Nature are ready toassist you with every step ofyour project today!

and break it down for breakfast for twothe morning after. My last bit of advice isto choose dinnerware that is versatile.Consider something that is durableenough for daily use and chic enough forevening occasions, such as Oneida’sChef’s Table Collection. This mix andmatch collection was designed with amodern look and crafted in all whiteporcelain to complement any table setting.

• Accessorize your home. I often hangon to things that I shouldn’t, but havelearned that any little knick knack cancome into play when decorating forevents. I’ve made candle holders out ofmason jars, a menu with a chalkboard andcenterpieces using old pitchers. I’m notencouraging clutter- just keep a stash ofitems that could be useful when entertain-ing and it may save you that extra trip tothe store.

• Use nature to your advantage. Whendecorating, use sprigs and blooms grownnear your home to add life to your tablesettings. Various shades of colors found inwildflowers often create an organic ener-gy making a table setting more invitingfor guests. Also, arranging flowers in dif-ferent sized vases can be visually appeal-ing on a long table while single, tall flow-

Do you love the idea of entertaining, but feellike getting your home ready for a social eventrequires too much time and attention? Not toworry, there are a few easy things you can doto make sure your home is always ready tohost guests and they may not be as difficultto accomplish as you think.

First and foremost, decide what type ofambiance your event needs and embrace it.If you are having an evening event, indulgein deep colors, soft lighting and upbeatmusic to keep your company awake! If it’sa daytime event, go bold and bright withyour color scheme. “I love to target myaudience and add things to my table set-tings that inspire my guests,” saysAngela Giannopoulos, a premier NewYork event stylist and owner of SC3Group who has worked with brandssuch as Estee Lauder, Donna Karanand Missoni. “I recently decorated abirthday table for a group of gradeschool children. I used oversizedlegos and bright candy to entertainthem.” For unique ideas such asthese, Giannopoulos has offeredseveral tips for easy at-homeentertaining.

• Versatility is key. Makeconsiderations when stockingyour kitchen cabinets -- con-sider cookware and servingdishes that can be used bothfor smaller and larger occa-sions, as well as casual andformal ones. I also loveexpandable kitchen tablesbecause you can accommo-date a house full of guests

ers work well with atable for two.

• Accumulate a bev-erage collection.Nothing makes your visi-tors feel welcome likeoffering them a drinkwhen they walk in thedoor. Rather than going outand stocking up on wine, liquor or soft drinks beforeyou host, gradually accumu-late a collection. Your guestswill be impressed by yourselection when you have anassortment to offer. Also, con-sider outfitting your home withdrinkware for every occasion.

• Be prepared for overnightvisitors. Always keep clean sheetson your guest bed and be sure it ismade, as you never know whensomeone might stop by for anovernight visit. If you really want tomake your guests feel welcome, impress them with soothing productsin the bathroom or on their nightstandalong with a sweet treat on their pillow.

From the Egyptian pyramids tothe Vietnam Veterans Wall inWashington, D.C., the emotionalimportance of memorialization tran-scends history and cultures, and itsatisfies a basic human need toremember and to be remembered.

In today’s completely customized society, thedesire for personalization extends beyond life. Infact, nearly half of all consumers say that person-alization has a significant impact on their funeraland memorial preferences, according to a studycompleted by Matthews International.

Whether you choose a headstone, grave mark-er or cremation urn, consider how you would wantto be remembered by future generations. RobNewcombe, president of Matthews CemeteryProducts, offers the following advice for creating amemorial that represents and celebrates life:

• Plan ahead. Approximately one in five peoplewith recent experience planning a funeral or memo-rial say that the wishes of their loved ones were notknown because they hadn’t provided written or ver-bal guidance. Take control over the final details ofyour life and alleviate a future burden from thoseclosest to you by planning in advance the details ofyour memorial and sharing your after-life preferenceswith family and friends.

• Illustrate your life story. Images can transform amemorial into a visual biography by depicting allaspects of a life - from military service to special hon-ors to leisure activities. For example, the MatthewsLasting Memories collection allows you to add up toeight of your favorite photos – such as snapshots with

your children, your fishing pole, a favoritecar or your family home – to a memorialplate through a bronze casting process. The result is a highly detailed and extreme-ly personal memorial that can be used inconjunction with ground burials, cremationand mausoleum entombments. Professionaldesigners work closely with individuals orfamilies to create detailed renderings of eachmemorial.

• Select the right words. Memorials cancommunicate much more than birth and deathdates. While many people choose to have afavorite religious verse or inspirational quoteengraved, also consider an excerpt from abeloved poem, lyrics from a song or even a special message to loved ones.

• Involve family and friends. Asking lovedones to participate in designing your memorialcan make the process less intimidating and helpthem to fully understand your final wishes. Lookthrough old family photo albums together, andshare anecdotes and favorite stories that may pro-vide inspiration when selecting the creative elements of your memorial.

“Whether it’s just adding a photo or moredetailed information and imagery, families havetold us that personalized memorials provide futuregenerations with more information about their pastand evoke powerful memories among visitors to thegravesite,” says Newcombe. “Each memorial cantruly be a one-of-a-kind work of art that makes it pos-sible for an individual to express his or her religiousdevotion, patriotism and personal passions.”

BULLY from page 6a change in your child’s behavior and attitudes, approach him first. Offer your sup-port and let him know that action will be taken to improve the situation. Your childwill most likely be feeling isolated at school and it’s important for him to know thathe can confide in you.

Document facts. Take pictures of any injuries and have your child give adetailed description of what happened. Write down the dates and times that thesesituations occurred and get statements from any other students, teachers or parentswho may have observed the bullying.

Talk to teachers and the principal. Don’t wait. Immediately contact the schooland alert school officials to the problems that your child is facing.

Put it in writing. In addition to talking directly to teachers and the school princi-pal, put your concerns into writing to the principal, the superintendent and schoolboard members.

Encourage others to speak up. If the same child is bullying other students, per-suade parents to report it too. School officials are more likely to respond immedi-ately if they see the problem is affecting several students.

Call the police. Many states require schools to report bullying incidents to thepolice, according to Findlaw.com. If your child has been the victim of a physicalassault or repeated incidents of bullying, call the local authorities - especially ifyour school has not contacted local authorities.
