re-thinking the product means that you actually start from the product, don’t miss it!

understand the product and all its features and think about it from a different point of you

mistake no. 1: you innovate instead

don’t miss the product

why are we creative?supercompensation

Supercompensation is a phisiologycal feature coded in our genetics, it is what makes us improve in any aspects of our life.

Supercompensation works in a simple way: once we face a new challenge, we don’t only learn how to face it

but we also get ready to an even more complex one.

I believe this is the core of our creative thinking ability.

we all are creative

enviromentcreativity needs a creative enviroment

in order to show up

the sons and daughters of artists are likely to become artists themselvesit’s not genetics*

it’s the enviroment you grow up with

* an extensive Danish study reveals that the adopted child will likely be more similar to the new parents than the biological ones,

it’s not about genetics, it’s about the enviroment we live in

Page 27: Creative Thinking

self-esteem

creativity needs you to focus on the matternot on you

if you fear whether you will be able to get a good idea or notyou are actually not thinking about the idea at all

Page 30: Creative Thinking

method

the creative spark needs a method to light it up

the association of ideas(i.e. brain storming)

do something

because...

ex nihilo nihil fitnothing comes from nothing

© Fabio Arangio - Graphic designer & instructor

Page 34: Creative Thinking

creativity is not randomeven if it may seems it is

i.e. we are not able to express an absolute random idea or numberany number you “randomly” think of is actually associated to a logical event that happened

ex nihilo nihil fitnothing comes from nothing

© Fabio Arangio - Graphic designer & instructor

Page 35: Creative Thinking

the process of the creative thinking may be too complex to be predictable

but it is still a flow of information and association of ideas elaborated by our brain

creativity is not randomeven if it may seems it is

forget “empty” space

empty space is not a term designer should really use

© Fabio Arangio - Graphic designer & instructor

Page 51: Creative Thinking

negative space

as complementary to “positive space”it is an “active” space

and part of the design itselfultimately it is the space that hosts our creativity
