Interlude is launching Eko, the world’s first network of interactive content. Quality interactive content always relies on good stories, good scripts, good acting, and good concepts; but to make great interactive content, you need to think a bit differently. The interactivity needs to be inherent to the story. This document will walk you through the fundamental building blocks of interactive storytelling, and provide you with some examples of ways to put those blocks together to make something great.

In branching structures, viewers choose between various storylines to affect the outcome.“Choose Your Own Adventure” is one type of branching structure, but the options are endless: follow a different character, hear a different instrument, see a new perspective, pick up different objects… Below are a few examples of projects that follow this structure.

This is the interactive tree behind the Madewell video. In this project, every node has a binary choice, and every choice leads to a different outcome. The entire piece is built out of 63 video segments.
