Timeline 6th Grade (Fall/Spring)

◦ Recruitment for Program

6th Grade (summer prior to entering 7th Grade)◦ Accepted student will be tested by ASSET type test.◦ Both student and parent/guardian will participate in Program

Orientation◦ Student will be enrolled in one 3 credit course (elective course)

covering a “special topic”. ◦ Student participates in additional workshops, programs and/or

Timeline 7th Grade (Fall & Spring)

◦ Student engaged in College Readiness and Retention Activities◦ Parents engaged in Parent Involvement (ex. U of A College

Academy for Parents)

Parent Component Option #1

◦ Parents/Guardians participate in a College Academy for Parents type program during the 1st semester of the student’s 7th Grade Fall semester.

◦ Thereafter, the parent/guardian would participate in workshops/activities once a semester during student’s participation in program.

Option #2◦ Parents/Guardians participate in a College Academy for Parents

type program that requires attendance and participation twice a semester until all workshops have been completed.

Questions/Concerns◦ How to keep parent involvement steady?◦ Is it possible that community colleges will offer college credit to

parents who participate and complete this academy for parents type program?

Delivery Option #1

•For metro areas, students participate in college courses at community college.

•Additional components deliverable either at college site or other site able to house students.

Delivery option #2

•For rural areas, students participate in college courses taught by Jr. High School Teachers.

•Provided teachers seek certification from local community colleges to teach college courses.

•If following this option, program facilitator will have to implement college campus visit for students as is part of component developed by Jr. ACE Advisory Board.

•Questions/Concerns:Payment for teacher comes from where?Need to familiarize self with process of course approval and any other approval required for this option pertaining to all entities involved.Payment for space used to house class while course being taughtWill this require need for MOA/MOU?
