The Life of Christ• Wilderness of Judea– Refers to the rugged area along

the Dead Sea• Where the land plunges from the

peaks of the central range of mountains to the shores of the sea• Filled with deep ravines and caves

– Jesus was probably led into this region after He was baptized to be tempted

The Life of Christ• Joseph returned to Palestine

when he heard Herod died– Afraid to stop in Judea because of

cruel Archelaus– Took his family back to Galilee

(Nazareth) which was his original home (Matt 2:23)• Nathanael was skeptical that any

good thing could come out of Nazareth (John 1:46)• About 80 miles north of Jerusalem

18

Page 19: Credits

The Life of Christ• We don’t know much about Jesus’ years in

Nazareth– It could be that Joseph taught Him the carpenter’s

trade because some people knew him as “the carpenter” (Mark 6:3)• Later the people of Nazareth refused to believe He was

the Son of God (Messiah)– Matthew 13:53-58; Mark 6:1-6; Luke 4:16-30

to ask Him to heal her daughter• Called a Greek Syro-Phoenician (Mark
