4 Environmental Requirements

Environmental RequirementsProper temperature, humidity, and room cleanliness are extremelyimportant to the proper functioning of the Crescent/30 or 40 and Escort30. This section defines these requirements.

RequirementsTemperature and humidity

Operating range:

60° - 80° F (16° - 26° C) 40 - 60% (non-condensing) humidity

Requirements for achieving accuracy specifications*:

68° ± 1°F (20° ± 0.5°C) 50% ±5 % humidity

*Accuracy and repeatability specifications are achieved only under theseenvironmental conditions and when imaging on film.

Air SupplyNote: Air is required only for the Escort/30 Auto Film Loader.

Planning GuidelinesAlthough a clean room environment is not required, cleanliness isextremely important to reliable system performance. The spinner mirrorlocated in the imager is exposed to open air and can collect a significantamount of dust if particulate matter is in the air. In addition, dustsettling on film will leave holes that will render images useless.

Please follow these guidelines in preparing the imager room.

1. If a processor is located in the same room as the imager, thegases produced by the processor must be vented out of the room.If not properly vented, processor gases will condense on the lensand other surfaces inside the imager and Escort 30, ruiningexposures and causing premature equipment failure. If avent/fan kit is available for the processor, it should be installed.

2. Discharges from the processor or any other machine must notempty into a sump inside the imager room. Emptying dischargewithin the imager room will introduce corrosive gases and raisehumidity to unacceptable levels.

3. If the processor is connected directly to the Escort 30, theprocessor must be operated with negative air pressure to preventfumes from entering the Crescent 30 and Escort 30.

4. The air flow from an air conditioning unit should not be directedat the system.

5. It is essential that filters used in the air conditioning system becleaned and changed on a regular basis.

6. The imager room should have a solid surface floor, such aslinoleum or concrete that can be wet-mopped to control dust.

7. If the room has ceiling tiles, they should be of the type that willnot flake and drop particulate matter.

Page 12: CRESCENT 30 OR 40 Laser Imager ESCORT/30 Auto Film Loader · Preinstallation Guide Crescent/30 or 40 and Escort/30 Responsibilities 3 Assignment of Responsibilities Barco Representative

6 Environmental Requirements

8. The easiest way to keep a room clean is to prevent dust fromentering the room by maintaining higher pressure in the imagerroom than in any nearby room. Put a lone supply duct in theimager room with the return duct in a neighboring room. This isextremely important if corrosive chemicals or particulate matterare in the air. If these contaminants are allowed to enter theimager room, over time permanent damage could result to thespinner assembly reflective surface.

8 Electrical Requirements

Electrical service requirements High frequency transients, impulses, sags, and surges should not be

present on the input line.

A dedicated power line, from the same power distribution subpanel,is required for all major components being purchased.

If a neutral wire is used, there must be a separate, full size neutraland ground wires for each outlet. Do not daisy-chain neutrals orgrounds.

Do not use conduit for grounding purposes.

The voltage differential between neutral and earth ground should notexceed 1V RMS when measured at the system power line inputterminals. The fluctuation of this value should not exceed 25 mVpeak to peak.

Planning GuidelinesTo achieve maximum reliability, Barco recommends the following:

The power outlets for the Crescent/30-40 and Escort/30, which arethe primary power disconnect devices, and the power cordconnections to the systems must be easily accessible.

A power cut-off device such as a remote trip switch or circuitbreaker to shut off power to all system components in the event of anemergency should be provided. This device should be readilyaccessible to the operator near a principal exit to the room housingthe system.

Electrical and air service should be dropped as close as possible tothe input panel to minimize the hazard of cabling and hose on thefloor.

An uninterruptible power supply (UPS) should be provided for thePRISM-NT to ensure data integrity. Barco can recommend anappropriate size.

Outlets RequiredNote: The AC power outlets must be easily accessible because they arethe primary power disconnect devices.

The following outlets are required:
