This year we were very lucky to have Lati and Lesieli teaching our children traditional Fijian dance throughout the day in our hall. Year 7 and 8 boys from the Clontarf Academy Melville High School came to read stories to our younger children and the whole school took part in a variety of cultural lessons throughout the day. At lunch time, with special thanks to our P&C, the cola turned into a multicultural food market with foods from France, Spain, Japan, Italy, Pakistan and Vietnam quickly being sampled by our children (and maybe a few teachers as well!). With the theme for this year being “Everybody Belongs” it was amazing to see so many people involved in this day. Thank you to all of our parents and community members who contributed to this day and gave our children such special memories.

HARMONY DAY

Last Wednesday we celebrated Harmony Day a day early. The school came alive with a sea of colours as the children, with the help of mums and dads, dressed in traditional clothing from different cultures from around the world. This year we were very lucky to have Lati and Lesieli teaching our children traditional Fijian dance throughout the day in our hall. EASTER RAFFLE DONATIONS

Can you contribute to our Easter Raffle?? We would appreciate donations from families to make up raffle prizes for the Easter Raffle which will be drawn at the Easter Hat Parade on Friday 12th April.

Are you able to sell a book of 10 tickets? If so please add your details and send back to school and we will send you home a book of tickets. All tickets sold should be returned to school on Thursday 11th April. Tickets will be $2 each.

NAPLAN ONLINE PRACTICE TEST

Today our children will be undertaking their second practice online NAPLAN test. The purpose of this assessment is to familiarise our students with the login and functionality of the test. This will also serve as a litmus test for how our schools computers and software perform under the heavy traffic this kind of traffic causes for our network. Up to this point our network has held up well to all tests. With the real tests taking place in Week 3 next term we are keen to iron out any issues as soon as possible.

STAGE 2 CUPCAKE STALL THIS WEDNESDAY 27TH MARCH

Students in Stage 2 are asked to bring in slices and cakes for a fundraising cake stall this Wednesday 27th March. Funds are being raised to sponsor some cuddly koalas from the Port Macquarie Koala Hospital. Remember to label containers clearly with your name if you want them returned and please NO NUTS.

TROPPO BOB RESILIENCE SHOW COMING TO CHPS THIS WEDNESDAY 27TH MARCH

Please ensure notes and payments have been returned for Troppo Bob’s ‘Building Resilience Show’ which is coming to CHPS this Wednesday 27th March. The cost of this event will be $5 per student.

BIG VEGIE CRUNCH THURSDAY 4TH APRIL

What is The Big Vegie Crunch? Only around 5% of NSW children eat enough vegetables. To help our community do better, our school will be taking part in The Big Vegie Crunch (part of Vegetable Week) at 10am on Thursday 4th April. Primary schools across NSW will be joining together to break the record for the most students crunching vegetables simultaneously. Last year 50,260 students crunched together. What can you do to help?

• Pack a container of vegetables (not fruit this time) for your child to eat on Thursday 4th April

• Keep serving up the vegetables at home and in your children’s lunchboxes!

DELICATE NOBBY/WAVES CAMPGROUND 1ST-3RD APRIL

Our Stage 3 excursion to Delicate Nobby is fast approaching!

A friendly reminder to Stage 3 parents and students that our bike education program begins this week. Therefore, we require all the children’s bikes (including helmets) to be at school no later than this Wednesday morning, 27th March please. All bikes will be locked in the hall of an evening and over the weekend.

ICAS ASSESSMENTS

This year the school has decided not to participate in the ICAS Global Assessment Testing as we have in the past. These tests have always been an add-on to our Teaching and Learning Programs and have come at an additional cost to parents. Assessment takes place in all classrooms at CHPS on a continual basis and teachers are always available by appointment to discuss student progress and any concerns. Part of our decision not to participate in UNSW Global Assessments is the company’s continued expansion and pressure to sign up for more and more assessments such as Reach Assessments, Jet Assessments, Scout Assessments as well as the ICAS Assessments. Parents wishing to know more may visit the website: unswglobal.nsw.edu.au/educational-assessments NORTHCOTT SCHOOL TRANSITION INFORMATION NIGHT TUESDAY 9TH APRIL

Northcott’s Early Childhood Early Intervention program is hosting a School Transition Information Evening for children with additional support needs. We at CHPS are excited to take part in this very informative evening. Along with other local schools we will have a table with school representatives there ready to share information about the supports we can offer for children with additional needs entering school in 2020.

National Disability Insurance Scheme Partner delivering Early Childhood Early Intervention You are invited! Come along to our school transition information night! Northcott Early Childhood Early Intervention program is hosting an information evening for school transitions. This event will be open to all

families and carers of children with additional support needs transitioning to school in 2020. The information evening will be held to foster the relationships between educators and families with children with additional support needs as they begin their journey in to the school environment. The expo will be held on Tuesday April 9th from 6.00PM until 8.00PM at the Kempsey Macleay RSL Club, 1 York Lane Kempsey. Each school will have a table for open conversation with families between 6.00-7.00pm, followed by some presentations from school representatives from 7.00-8.00pm. Refreshments will be provided for everyone to enjoy. All primary school education providers within the Port Macquarie Hastings local government area will be invited to come along and have the opportunity to share their knowledge and information about their school and transition supports. We aim to assist families in understanding the process for transitioning their child to school and understanding their options within the primary school setting. Representatives from Northcott will also be in attendance to answer any questions about accessing early intervention with the NDIS and what we can do to assist families with children with disabilities transitioning to school.
