excessories top pocket access 2 1 3 how to pack your pack crescent / luna owner’s manual Congratulations on your purchase of an Osprey Crescent/Luna Series pack. Our obsession with detail rewards you with a truly full- featured pack and we want to be sure that you can understand and utilize your pack completely. Here’s a full tour of your pack – top to bottom. TOP POCKET Two zips provide access to a top map pocket and to the main compartment. Underneath the lid you’ll find a zippered hydration (up to 3 liters) compartment and the straps and buckle for the convertible fanny pack hidden underneath a lumbar pad The fanny pack attaches and detaches to your pack using a two-point vector for easy adjustment with varying loads. Unthread the side ladder buckle, slide the strap through the sewn in slider on the backpanel and up through the back of the harness load lifter ladder buckle. To reattach reverse this process. MAIN BAG ACCESS 1 Top load your pack by pulling the cord lock and opening the skirt. 2 Front panel access is available through a single zip on the 90 and 75-liter models with dual zip access on the Crescent 110. 3 Convenient wide-zip access to the sleep- ing bag compartment is available on all models. A sewn in divider with releasable ladder lock buckles allows you to organize with one compartment or two. E XCESSORY ATTACHMENT The sliders along the sides of the Excessories button through the holes in the hypalon strips on the front of the pack. Simply push the slider through the slots from underneath and tug on the straps to tighten. Adjusting the tension on the top straps will allow you to stash additional gear like a jacket or shovel behind the Excessory. The Solo Excessory is included on 110, 90 and 75 liter models. Daylite, Alpine and crampon pocket are also available. PACK C ARE Your pack is an extremely durable product built for years of use and abuse. However some basic proce- dures will ensure that your pack holds up optimally. After each trip be sure to clean out your pack thoroughly – get all your gear out, shake the dirt out, wipe and scrub any nasty stains with a mild detergent. If it’s wet hang it to dry, out of the sun. Loosen all the straps, in particular, the load lifter strap on the harness. Hang your pack in a cool, dry location. You can wash your pack, harness and hipbelt in the bathtub using a mild detergent. Hang dry it out of direct sunlight. KEY FABRICS 420D and 500D broken twill nylon, 1000D plain weave nylon Be sure to use the internal compression and compress the contents solidly using the external compression straps. You want the pack to adopt a tall, thin profile. Remember to maintain side-to-side balance as well – a pack that leans over to one side places excessive pressure on your spine and irri- tates your shoulders. Also, make a point of getting as much gear inside the pack as possible. Odds and ends strapped on all over the outside of the pack wreak havoc with balance, especially if they are free to swing around. Finally, the top pocket has a tendency to become the repository for many, many small items that add up to significant weight and often make the pack distinctly top-heavy – be careful. www.ospreypacks.com Osprey Packs, Inc. 115 West Progress Circle Cortez, Colorado 81321 T: 970 . 564 . 5900 F: 970 . 565 . 2120 Heavier Lighter CRESCENT Size Weight Capacity 110 M 7 LB 2 OZ / 3.22 KG 6500 CU.IN. / 107 L 110 L 7 LB 6 OZ / 3.34 KG 6700 CU.IN. / 110 L 110 XL 7 LB 10 OZ / 3.45 KG 6900 CU.IN. / 113 L 90 M 6 LB 13 OZ / 3.09 KG 5500 CU.IN. / 90 L 90 L 7 LB 1 OZ / 3.19 KG 5700 CU.IN. / 93 L 90 XL 7 LB 5 OZ / 3.31 KG 5900 CU.IN. / 96 L 75 M 6 LB 8 OZ / 2.96 KG 4500 CU.IN. / 75 L 75 L 6 LB 12 OZ / 3.06 KG 4700 CU.IN. / 78 L 75 XL 7 LB / 3.17 KG 4900 CU.IN. / 87 L 60 M 5 LB 7 OZ / 2.48 KG 3700 CU.IN. / 60 L 60 L 5 LB 11 OZ / 2.58 KG 3900 CU.IN. / 63 L 60 XL 5 LB 15 OZ / 2.69 KG 4100 CU.IN. / 66 L LUNA Size Weight Capacity 90 XS 6 LB 8 OZ / 2.86 KG 5100 CU.IN. / 84 L 90 S 6 LB 9 OZ / 2.97 KG 5300 CU.IN. / 87 L 90 M 6 LB 13 OZ / 3.09 KG 5500 CU.IN. / 90 L 75 XS 6 LB / 2.72 KG 4100 CU.IN. / 69 L 75 S 6 LB 4 OZ / 2.83 KG 4300 CU.IN. / 72 L 75 M 6 LB 8 OZ / 2.95 KG 4500 CU.IN. / 75 L 60 XS 4 LB 15 OZ / 2.23 KG 3300 CU.IN. / 54 L 60 S 5 LB 3 OZ / 2.35 KG 3500 CU.IN. / 57 L 60 M 5 LB 7 OZ / 2.47 KG 3700 CU.IN. / 60 L Included Solo Excessory adds 500 cu. in. and 12 oz. to Crescent 110, 90 and 75 and Luna 90 and 75.

RECURVE RODTitanium is used for our 90 and 110-litermodels and composite rods are used forthe 75 and 60-liter models. The bowedshape of the ReCurve rods provide extraload comfort and shock absorption. Thealuminum ferrules on the ends of therods allow them to rotate as you movewith your load. The center strap Aadjusts the tension on the rod and canalso be used to secure extra gear.

COMPRESSIONOn the inside of your pack you will notice a red internal compression strap. When you are loading your pack, movethe strap out of the way and pop out thehead cup to maximize your loadingroom. When you’ve got the pack loaded, pop the head cup back in, buckle andcrank the strap down over your load.

Your pack utilizes a 3-strap compressionsystem to ensure that your load is stableand close to your back. Adjust the straps asrequired by the load. You’ll notice two extrafemale buckles B on the right side of yourpack (ReCurve Rod photo). These allowyou to StraightJacket your pack when car-rying a very minimal load. Connect thestraps to the 2 female buckles at the edgeof the backpanel.

STAY BENDINGReach in behind the lumbar pad and pullit outward to expose the stays. Removethe hipbelt and pull the stays out. Reinsertthe stays into the hipbelt and put it on. Ifthe stays follow the contour of your back(as in the picture), then you’re all set. Ifnot you will need to bend the stays to fityour back. Hold the stays together and bendthem across your knee, to ensure an evenand smooth bend. With a little experi-mentation you’ll end up with a perfect fit!

BIOFORM HARNESS AND HIPBELTThe BioForm harness is laminated dualdensity foam for extra comfort and fit.Our tried and tested hook and loopadjustment allows up to 4” of variance ineach torso size. The BioForm hipbelt fea-tures wraparound support wings andstretched thermoformed EVA foam for adeluxe and ultra-comfortable fit. Dualstay sleeves and dual hip compressors

anchor the hipbelt to the rod sleeves andthe framesheet, ensuring excellent weighttransfer and a comfortable ride.

SIZING

Men’s harnesses and hipbelts are availablein SM, MD, LG AND XL; Women’s harness-es and hipbelts are available in XS, SM,MD and LG.

RECURVE SUSPENSION

ADJUSTMENT

Be sure to read the sizing and fittinginstructions in our catalog and on theweb. In general think of wearing yourpack in this way: you’ll adjust the suspen-sion onto your body and then you’lladjust the pack onto the suspension.

A Loosen all suspension straps and thenput the pack on and snug down the hipbelt.

B Pull the lower shoulder strap adjustersinto a comfortable position and then pullthe load lifter straps in making sure thatthe harness doesn’t rise off your shoulder

C Adjust the sternum strap up or down toa comfortable position and then clip in.

Remember your packs weight distributionand feel will change throughout your trip, just as your muscles will tire and strength-en through the trip. Therefore no adjust-ment is perfect. Don’t hesitate to adjustyour pack as much as you need. Redistri-buting your load is the key to comfort.

All Luna packs are designed and equippedwith contoured harnesses and hipbelts tobetter fit the female form.

ERGOPULL

All our padded hipbelts use our exclusiveErgoPull design. The ErgoPull createsmechanical advantage to provide extraleverage in cinching down the hipbelt. The ErgoPull design also draws tensionalong the top and bottom of the belt, notthrough the center, so it distributes pres-sure more evenly over the padding andrelieves direct pressure on the hipbones. To operate the ErgoPull, loosen the web-bing enough so you can connect the center buckle. Then grasp the loose endsof the webbing on either side, and pull

in and across with both hands at thesame time.
