Home & Family Newsletter JUNE 2021

Jottings from Janeen

June has to be my favorite month of the year. I suppose this

love began in my childhood – it is the first month of summer,

which meant school was out and I was going to Ma & Pa’s

farm for a few weeks for my annual visit. So many happy

memories of sitting on the porch swing, chasing fireflies,

cooking with Ma and taking Pa’s lunch to him in the field just

to name a few. June is also the month of many family

birthdays and anniversaries: June 16th grandson Eli Wallace’s

birthday, June 25th – daughter Kristi Hale’s and brother David

Collins’ birthdays, June 27th – granddaughter Grace Hale’s

birthday, daughter Sara & Jake Wallace’s & Ma & Pa (Seldon

& Leva Collins’) anniversary, June 28th daughter Kristi &

Robbie Hale’s anniversary and June 29th dad JD Collins’

birthday. As you can see it is a special time of celebrations

for us. I think it will be even more precious as Covid rates

have gone down and we can spend time together without

fear of contracting the dreaded virus. I’m sure you have

heard the CDC guidelines have changed and that the

governor will remove all Covid restrictions (mask

requirements, limited capacity, etc.) on June 11. However at

this time we have received no guidance from the University

of Kentucky. As things change, I will keep you informed.

Janeen Tramble, County Extension Agent for Family & Consumer Sciences

offered by extension, if you attended/watched a zoom

homemakers lesson, watched one of the webinars or

demonstrations by the agents on the county Facebook page

you can count those.

REACH forms are due by June 30. You can turn in more

than one per category. If you need a blank form let me

know.

July 15. Blank forms can be found on the KEHA website or

picked up at the extension office.

VSU form – I know many of you have been making mask and

helping in other ways during this difficult time. Some have

served on the extension district board, homemaker’s

council, county extension council, at the food bank, at the

hospital, at church, with 4-H, etc. I know how much you

homemakers give to this community. PLEASE return your

VSU form to the extension office by July 15.

Passports – I realize you haven’t “travelled” much this year

due to all the Covid restrictions, but we are still doing the

Management and Safety

This program deals with the management of finances, time, etc. and financial planning for the future as well as safety for all aspects of our lives. Homemakers report family resource management including time and money management, consumers protection and rights, health care decisions and community development.

How it promotes safety programs: home, farm, school, business, disaster preparedness, and home first protection programs. These materials are available from the county Extension Office. It also promotes and explores home-based business opportunities.

Homemakers will have a better understanding of their finances due to discussing how to safeguard their funds and security. Members must be knowledgeable of managing expenses and planning for their financial future. We will discuss scam red flags and avoiding fraud and identify theft. Homemakers must be aware daily.

Darl Henley, Management and Safety Chairperson

Candle making outing - I have planned an outing to a new business in Paducah. It is the Pour Room,

110 South 3rd Street Paducah. You can check out the websites at: Facebook.com/thepourroom and the

pourroom.com. You will make your own candle - $20 for one, two for $35 made with soy wax. The date is

Thursday July 8th. We will leave Marion at 3:00, arrive at 4:00. It takes 3 hours for your candle to set up so we

would have time to eat, shop and pick up our candles that evening. If you would like to go please call the

office by June 15th to register. If you are willing to drive and help transport others, please let us know. Feel

free to invite a friend, they may decide to join homemakers!

June is Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month. More than 6 million Americans are living

with Alzheimer's disease – the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States. Additionally, more than

11 million family members and friends provide care to people living with Alzheimer’s and other

dementias. In Kentucky alone, there are more than 75,000 people living with the disease and 149,000

caregivers. I will be teaching a zoom class to help you recognize the warning signs of Alzheimer’s and the

importance of early detection. This program will be held on Monday, June 7th at 6:30pm CST. Call the

office for the zoom link. I will hold an in person session if there is interest. When you call, let us know if

you will participate by zoom or in person.

International day – If you weren’t able to attend international day, you missed a

treat. It was so nice to be together with everyone and Leslea did a wonderful job sharing

about her trip to Ireland. The silent auction raised $424!! Thank you to everyone who

donated and/or bought items. If you were not able to attend I challenge you to make a

donation to the scholarship fund. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could raise $500 or more,

since we give a $500 scholarship each year.

Crittenden County Homemakers Advisory Council Meeting Tuesday, June 29 1:30 pm at the Extension Annex.
