Wrth gwrs, cynigir parhad i addysg y myfyrwyr gan fod rhan helaeth ohonynt wedi bod yn y ddwy ysgol ers blwyddyn 7 mewn awyrgylch Gymreig a chartrefol. Dyma nodweddion sy’n hybu cynnydd academaidd a datblygiad personol pob myfyriwr. Pam dewis i astudio mewn ysgol yn hytrach na choleg? Why would you

    ˆ

  • I astudio cwrs lefel 3 yn y Chweched Dosbarth, rhaid cael proffil academaidd cyffredinol cryf. Felly er mwyn cael mynediad i’r cyrsiau rhaid cael y canlynol:

    • Oleiaf pum TGAU gradd C ac yn uwch• Oleiaf gradd C yn Saesneg / Cymraeg a

Mathemateg• Oleiaf gradd C yn y pwnc dewisol (os

astudir o’r blaen) neu gradd B ac yn uwch ar gyfer cyrsiau Gwyddonol a Mathemateg.

    • Cymhwyster y BAC Canolradd

To study a Level 3 course in the Sixth Form a good overall academic profile is needed. Therefore to gain course entry, this means a student requires:

    • At least five GCSE’s at C grade or above.• At least a grade C in English / Welsh and Maths• At least a C grade in your chosen subject

(if previously studied) although Science and Maths requires a B grade or above for course entry.

    • BAC Intermediate qualification

What enrichment activities are available in the Sixth Form?

Mae myfyrwyr y Bartneriaeth yn rhan o’r rhaglen HE+ a threfnir yn lleol ar gyfer disgyblion disglair Sir Abertawe. Mae’r strategaeth yn cael ei chyd-drefnu gyda Phrifysgol Caergrawnt a chynigir cyfloeoedd all-gyrsiol sy’n hybu mynediad y disgyblion i brifysgolion gorau Prydain.Mae’r gweithgareddau a threfnir yn y meysydd canlynol: Ieithoedd, Hanes, Gwyddoniaethau Cymdeithasol, Cyfraith a Gwledyddiaeth, Busnes ac Economeg, Mathemateg a Gwyddoniaethau. Rhoddir y cyfle i fyfyrwyr ymestyn eu dealltwriaeth a hybu eu diddordeb ymhellach.

Students from Gwyr / Bryn Tawe Partnership are part of the HE+ scheme being run in collaboration with Cambridge University . Swansea schools work together to invite the most able students to participate in the scheme. It is an extra-curricular opportunity that encourages students to apply to the best universities. HE+ offers opportunities in the following subjects: Languages, History, Social Sciences, Law and Politics, Business and Economics, Mathematics and Sciences. These opportunities stretch and improve their knowledge as well as enrich their learning.

Beth yw gofynion mynediad i'r Chweched Dosbarth?

What are the Sixth Form entry requirements?

In exceptional circumstances where less than the entry requirements have been achieved, a student may be admitted on a trial basis.

The likelihood is that the majority of Year 12 students will study 3 AS subjects and their Advanced BAC qualification although it does depend on their GCSE results. In Year 13, students normally continue with the same three subjects but it is dependent on attaining satisfactory AS module examination results, grades A - E.

Mewn amgylchiadau eithriadol, lle nad yw’r myfyriwr yn cwrdd a’r gofynion uchod, mae modd trafod mynediad ar brawf.

Y tebygrwydd yw y bydd y mwyafrif o fyfyrwyr Blwyddyn 12 yn astudio 3 phwnc Uwch Gyfrannol a chymhwyster y BAC Uwch, ond mae hyn yn ddibynnol ar eu canlyniadau TGAU. Fel arfer , ym mlwyddyn 13, mae myfyrwyr yn parhau gyda’r un pynciau. Defnyddir canlyniadau arholiadau modiwl UG er mwyn penderfynu os yw’n briodol i barhau â’r pynciau. Rhaid cyrraedd graddau A - E.

    ˆ

  • Sut i ddewis y cwrs cywir yn y Chweched Dosbarth?

How to choose the right course in the Sixth Form?

Pan yn dewis y cyrsiau i astudio, rhaid meddwl am y canlynol:

    • Diddordeb yn y pwnc?• Pa mor dda yw eich cyrhaeddiad yn y

pwnc? • Dull asesu’r cwrs?.• Dulliau astudio a ddefnyddir yn y pwnc?• Canlyniadau TGAU.• Syniadau posibl am yrfa.• Cyngor athrawon pwnc.

Mae'n bwysig bod myfyrwyr yn dewis y cyfuniad gorau o bynciau iddyn nhw. Gwneir drwy broses o ymgynghori rhwng y myfyriwr, rhieni a’r ysgol gartref. Unwaith bod myfyriwr wedi dewis pynciau posibl defnyddir y wybodaeth i gynllunio amserlenni’r ysgolion. Anogir disgyblion felly i ystyried yn ofalus cyn dewis pynciau, oherwydd y gallai hyn effeithio ar eu hamserlen bersonol ym Mlwyddyn 12.Rydym yn gwneud ein gorau i ymateb i ddewisiadau pynciol pob myfyriwr ond mae yna adegau pan na fydd hynny’n bosibl. Trefnir rhaglen gyflwyno ar ddechrau cyfnod y myfyriwr yn y Chweched Dosbarth er mwyn ei gynorthwyo i ddewis cyfuniad unigol o astudiaethau addas i’w allu a’i ddiddordeb. Bydd modd newid pwnc yn ystod y cyfnod cychwynnol hwn.

When choosing courses, the following factors should be taken into consideration:

    • Interest in the subject?• Academically, how good you are in this

subject? • Nature of the assessment of the course.• The type of study required within the

subject?• GCSE results. • Ideas about possible careers?• Advice from the subject teachers.

It is important that the student decides upon the best combination of courses for them. This is done through a process of consultation between the individual student, parents and the home school. Once the information about a student’s possible choice of subjects is collected the school will use it to plan the timetables of both schools. Students are advised to consider carefully before making their choices as it could affect their personal timetable in Year 12. We do our best to accommodate all students’ preferred subject choices but there are times when this is not possible. An Induction Programme at the beginning of the Sixth Form will support students to ensure that he/she selects the appropriate courses in relation to his/her interests and ability. During this initial period, students will be able to change their subject choices.

Hefyd, yn ystod y flwyddyn gyntaf yn y Chweched, caiff y myfyrwyr gyfarwyddyd manwl ar sut i addasu i’r newidiadau academaidd a chymdeithasol a ddaw i’w rhan wrth ddod yn aelodau o’r Chweched. Y Tiwtor Dosbarth sydd ar gael i gynorthwyo ac arwain y myfyriwr tra bydd Mentor y BAC yn cynnal sesiynau rheolaidd i fonitro cynnydd myfyrwyr y Chweched. Mae rhaglen ABCh eang hefyd yn helpu i gefnogi datblygiad y myfyrwyr ac yn eu paratoi ar gyfer prifysgol , gwaith , prentisiaethau a rhaglenni blwyddyn allan. Y mae’r Cynghorydd Gyrfaoedd yn gweithio yn agos gyda Phenaethiaid Chweched yr ysgolion.Caiff rhai aelodau o Flwyddyn 11 gyfweliad unigol er mwyn eu cefnogi a’u cynghori ar eu dewisiadau. Mae’r Cynghorydd Gyrfaoedd bob amser yn falch o gyfarfod â myfyrwyr a’urhieni i drafod y cyfleoedd sydd ar gael.

The schools make a special effort to assist members of the Sixth Form to choose suitable courses and subjects. Also during the first year in the Sixth Form the students have the opportunity of obtaining detailed instructions on how to adapt to the academic and social changes, which will affect them as a result of being members of the Sixth Form. The Form Tutor will help and guide students through the Sixth Form and the BAC mentor will regularly review progress during the academic year. An extensive PSE programme also helps to support a students’ development and prepare them for university, employment, apprenticeships and gap year programmes. The school counsellor is available to provide guidance for those experiencing any difficulties or uncertainties in their lives. The schools provide a broad service of careers and vocational guidance. The Careers Advisor works closely with the schools and the Heads of the Sixth Form. Some members of Year 11 are interviewed individually in order to support them with their post 16+ choices. The Careers Advisor is always available to discuss possible options with students and parents.

  • What's it like being a Sixth Former?

Sut brofiad yw hi fod yn fyfyriwr y Chweched?

    Tomos Morris

I’m one of the head pupils at Gwyr, studying History, Welsh, French and the Welsh BAC. My goal is to study Law /French and International Relations and a long-term ambition of mine is to work abroad, especially in France. In due course I also aim to learn Spanish to spread the countries I can work in. One of the highlights of the Sixth form in year 12 was the skiing trip. It was an unforgettable experience because of the opportunity to socialise with friends and teachers. This year, I had the opportunity to deliver a speech in the Senedd in a public speaking competition and this will stay in my memory forever! With the great success and tradition of sports in the school, I have had the opportunity to succeed with the 1st team in rugby and seven-aside rugby team as well as the football teams.

Rwy’n un o brif ddisgyblion Gwyr ac yn astudio Hanes, Cymraeg, Ffrangeg a’r BAC Cymreig. Fy nod yw astudio’r Gyfraith a Ffrangeg a Chysylltiadau Rhyngwladol gyda’r uchelgais hir-dymor o weithio tramor, yn enwedig yn Ffrainc. Gobeithiaf hefyd ddysgu Sbaeneg i ledaenu’r gwledydd y gallaf weithio ynddynt. Uchafbwyntiau’r Chweched i mi oedd y daith sgio ym mlwyddyn 12 . Roedd yn brofiad bythgofiadwy oherwydd y cyfle i gymdeithasu ac i ddod ymlaen gyda chyd-ddisgyblion ac athrawon. Eleni, cefais y cyfle i areithio yn y Senedd mewn cystadleuaeth siarad cyhoeddus a bydd hyn yn sefyll yn y cof gen i am byth! Mae llwyddiant chwaraeon yn draddodiad mawr yn yr ysgol a ches i’r cyfle i lwyddo gyda’r tim 1af yn rygbi, 7 bob ochr a thimoedd pel-droed yr ysgol.

    ^

    Gwilym Powell

Rwy’n un o brif ddisgyblion Gwyr ac yn astudio Hanes, Daearyddiaeth, Addysg Grefyddol a’r BAC Cymreig. Yn y dyfodol, rwy’n gobeithio astudio Hanes yn y brifysgol gyda’r nod o fod yn athro Hanes mewn ysgol uwchradd. Bu sawl uchafbwynt yn y Chweched ond yr un sydd wedi effeithio arnaf fwyaf yw’r agosatrwydd amlwg a’r berthynas sydd rhwng disgyblion ac athrawon. Mae’r agosatrwydd yma yn creu awyrgylch gweithio hwylus a chyfeillgar. Yn ogystal, roedd ennill Cynghrair Rygbi Ysgolion y Gweilch llynedd, yn gofiadwy gan yr oedd yn gwobrwyo’r gwaith caled ar ôl blwyddyn hir o rygbi i’r Chweched.

I’m one of the head pupils at Gwyr, studying History, Geography, Religious Studies and the Welsh BAC. I hope to proceed to university to complete a History degree with the intention then of becoming a History teacher in a secondary school. There have been many highlights in the Sixth Form for me. I have enjoyed the close relationship forged between students and teachers - this has appealed to me. It creates an amicable and friendly working partnership and I believe that I have benefited greatly from it. In addition, the winning of the Ospreys schools rugby league last year was memorableand a rewarding experience after a hard and long year of rugby.

  • I’m one of the head pupils at Gwyr, studying Biology, Chemistry, English Literature and the Welsh Baccalaureate. Next year, I hope to follow a Zoology

degree course. I have enjoyed helping out in a lunchtime homework club to help the year 7 pupils complete their tasks. I also organize the STEM club to stimulate interest in Science for the junior pupils. A highlight of the sixth form was achieving the Duke of Edinburgh Gold award. The expedition was a special experience and a challenging one especially in the wind and rain! The Sixth form parties have been entertaining this year and have helped us to develop and intensify the relationship between Gwyr students and Bryn Tawe students. The parties are also a good opportunity to raise money for the different charities we support. I feel welcomed and at home at Gwyr and the school has heavily influenced my interests and future goals.

Poppy Jones Rwy’n un o brif ddisgyblion Gwyr ac yn astudio Ffiseg, Cemeg, Mathemateg a Mathemateg Pellach ynghyd a ‘r Fagloriaeth Gymreig. Ar ôl gadael Gwyr, rwy’n gobeithio gwneud gradd mewn Ffiseg ym Mhrifysgol Warwick. Rwyf wedi joio fy amser yn y Chweched mas draw ac wedi manteisio ar lu o gyfleuoedd sydd wedi cael eu cynnig i mi. Un o fy uchafbwytiau yn ystod fy amser yn y Chweched oedd mynychu taith sgio’r ysgol. Roedd yr wythnos yn fendigedig er fy mod i wedi gwario hanner yr amser yn cwympo ar y llethrau! - profiad gwych a bythgofiadwy. Gwnes i hefyd fwynhau sefydlu grwp STEM ar gyfer disgyblion blynyddoedd 7, 8 a 9. Mae hwn yn glwb sy’n rhoi cyfle i ddisgyblion sydd gyda diddordeb yng Ngwyddoniaeth i wneud gweithgareddau amrywiol. Mae llawer o gymorth ar gael i sefydlu clybiau fel rhan o’r chweched a chyfle gwych i fanteisio ar hyn. Uchafbwynt arall oedd cynorthwyo ar gwrs preswyl i Langrannog. Roedd y profiad yn werthfawr iawn – er tasg anodd oedd sicrhau bod ystafelloedd blwyddyn 6 yn daclus!

I’m one of the head pupils at Gwyr, studying Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Further Maths along with the Welsh Baccalaureate. After leaving Gwyr I hope to do a degree in Physics at Warwick University. I have really enjoyed my time in the Sixth form and I have taken advantage of the many opportunities being offered to me. One highlight was my skiing trip. The week was fantastic even though I have spent half the time falling on the slopes! – a wonderful and unforgettable experience. I do also enjoy the STEM group, which I helped to establish for pupils in years 7, 8 and 9. This is a club that provides opportunities for pupils interested in science to do various activities. Much support is available to establish clubs of this nature in the Sixth form. Another highlight was assisting on a residential course to Llangrannog. The trip was very worthwhile – although it was a difficult task to ensure that year 6 rooms were kept tidy!
