OVERVIEW

Crossroads Charter Academy had another successful school year of athletics. This report highlights the athletic accomplishments for the 2017-2018 school year, giving just a taste of the hard work of our students, coaches, and teams. Included is information about departmental operations and development, academic and athletic accomplishments, as well as our student participation rates this year. I am pleased to share the results of our year with you. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or for additional information.

ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT HIGHLIGHTS

Communication: ● Fall, Winter, and Spring Meet the Team Evenings at CCA

● Fall, Winter, and Spring Parent/Coaches’ meetings

● Fall, Winter, and Spring Pre-Season Coaches’ meetings

● New athletic website is up and running (www.crossroadsathletics.com)

● New athletic department Twitter account (@CCA_CougarDen) continues to gain followers

Sportsmanship:

● Softball team received the Michigan High School Softball Coaches Association TEAM SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD 2018.

● Two basketball players were named to the BCAM Team First Award: ○ Logan Atchison ○ Roy Holsworth ○ The Team First Award is given to one member per varsity team who is chosen by

their BCAM Member Coach. This player should be the team member that most exemplifies putting team before self, teamwork, commitment, service, and sacrifice.

Professional Activities:

● Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches are members of their respective coaches associations.

● Athletic Director attends monthly West Michigan D League meetings for high school, middle school and elementary activities.

● Athletic Director attends quarterly Northern Michigan Soccer League meetings for varsity boys and girls programs.

● Athletic Director is an active member of the Michigan Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (MIAAA).

● Athletic Director is an active member of the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA).

● Athletic Director attended the MIAAA Leadership Academy in August.

● Athletic Director attended the MHSAA AD In-Service and Update Meetings in October.

● Athletic Director attended the MIAAA Winter Conference in March.

● Athletic Director completed certification requirements to become a Registered Athletic Administrator (RAA) through the NIAAA in August.

● Athletic Director served on the MHSAA Junior High/Middle School Committee and Baseball Rule Committee.

● Boys soccer coach Josh Yurick served as chair for All-District Committee.

● Boys soccer coach Josh Yurick is a member of the United Soccer Coaches Association.

● Cross country coaches attended the 2017 MITCA Cross Country Clinic in October.

● Girls varsity basketball coach Paulette Warczinsky completed MHSAA CAP 1 in November.

● Football coach Thomas Wheeler attended Glazier Clinic in March.

● Girls varsity soccer coach Sarah Cook attended the MHSAA Women in Sports Leadership conference in February.

● Girls softball coach Kevin Brigham completed MHSAA CAP 1 in April.

● Volleyball coach Kristin Yates completed MHSAA CAP 1 in April.

● Five student-athletes have received eight (8) individual All-State Academic recognitions as scholar athletes:

● The Football team earned MHSFCA 8-Man Honorable Mention Academic All-State

honors with a GPA of 2.81.

● The Varsity Girls’ Basketball team earned BCAM Class D Academic All-State honors with a GPA of 3.21.

● The Varsity Boys’ Basketball team earned BCAM Class D Academic All-State honors

with a GPA of 3.13.

● The Varsity Girls’ Soccer team earned MIHSSCA Class D Academic All-State honors with a GPA of 3.45.

● 58 student-athletes received WMD Academic All-Conference awards.

● Boys’ Basketball player Britton Angell reached the 1,000 career point total on 2/21/2018.

● Boys’ Basketball player Britton Angell was named Class D Michigan Associated Press Honorable Mention All-State.

● Boys’ Basketball player Britton Angell was named Class D Detroit Free Press Honorable

Mention All-State.

● Girls’ Cross Country team qualified for Team State by placing 3rd in Regionals.

● Girls’ Cross Country runner Jaylen Schroeder qualified for MHSAA State finals by placing 10th at Regionals.

● CCA hosted the MHSAA Class D Volleyball Regional in the Fall.

● CCA hosted the MHSAA Class D Boys’ Basketball District in the Winter.

● Britton Angell is invited to attend BCAM/MHSAA Reaching Higher Experience in July. ● Boys’ Basketball player Britton Angell was selected Class D BCAM’s BEST.

● Girls’ Soccer team won their 1st annual soccer invite on April 21.

● Girls’ Soccer team played twice (2) at Ferris State University’s turf soccer field on April

19 and April 23.

● The track program hosted four (4) meets this Spring, which is the most in one season.

● Boys’ basketball player Britton Angell set a new single game scoring record with 53 points (12/07/2017).

● Girls’ basketball player Haley Jankowski set a new single season block record with 61. ● Boys’ basketball coach Jason Kostecki reached 116 career varsity wins. ● Girls’ track athlete Jaylen Schroeder set a new 800 meter run record with 2:39.86s. ● Girls’ track athlete Natalie Chapman set a new 100 meter hurdles record with 17.6s. ● Girls’ track athlete Natalie Chapman set a new 300 meter hurdles record with 49.40s. ● Girls’ track relay team of Natalie Chapman, Amber Poortvliet, Logan Atchison, and

Jaylen Schroeder set a new 4x400 meter relay record with 4:26.94s.
