Factors Effecting OUALITY And PURITY Of

Introduction:
Endogenous
factors
Exogenous
factors
Quality of crude drugs
•Crude drugs are the drugs which are obtained from the natural sources like plants, animals, minerals. •The quality of crude drug depends on
Endogenus factors: •Endogenous or genetic factors which effects the quality and purity of crude drugs from inside.
Endogenous factors
•Mutation
• Polyploidy
•Hybridization
• Selection
Mutation: •A mutation generally may cause the gene to lose its function entirely or in part.
•Cell nucleus contains chromosomes more than its normal complement of chromosomes.
Polyploidy:
• Exogenous factors are those which effect the crude drugs from outside - 1. By difference in the environmental conditions. 2. Methods used in the collection.
3. Preparation storage of the crude drugs.
Exogenus Factors:
Exogenous Factors
Allelopathy, Nutrition,
Enzyme activity, Browning, Light,
Effect of storage,
Preserving procedure.
Climate and light, e.g. temperature,
rainfall, length of day etc.
Latitude and Altitude,
oxidation, evaporation,
Parasites, Racidification.
•Living organisms constantly exerts an influence upon each other. • It effects –upon leaf development, leaf shedding , mutation of the fruits
• Spoilage of fats during storage is called Rancidification. •New Compounds are formed which may change the therapeutic value of the fat.
Effect of storage: •Chemical changes in the crude drugs occur most readily during storage and the process is known as Ageing. • This process destroy therapeutic constituents.
Growth Inhibitors: •Natural Growth inhibitors affect bud opening, seed germination and development of dormancy.
•Many leaves and fruits become brown on drying and storage. Due to-
Browning:
• Enzymatic and non-enzymatic reasons. • Presence of oxygen, elevated temperature.
