Parents’ Preview The Parents’ Preview highlights an aspect of next week’s service: a liturgical song, a Psalm refrain, or a hymn stanza. Our hope and prayer is that parents will teach this portion of the service to their children at home during the week so that children can participate more fully in the worship service.

Volleyball Bake Sale to Benefit “Kathy’s House” and Lighthouse Youth Center.

Our annual Volleyball Bake Sale is Friday, September 23rd. Don’t forget to send a $1.00 to school on the 24th to purchase a sweet treat from the Lady Crusaders. The volleyball teams are making good things happen both on the court and in our communities. Next week the girls will be doing a bake sale at the lunch periods for students to buy a $1.00 treat. The proceeds will go to purchase items needed to make meals for two community service projects. The B teams will be making and serving a meal at Kathy's House. This organization provides meals and temporary housing for families who have loved ones staying at Froedtert Hospital. The A team will be making and serving a meal at Lighthouse Youth Center. This ministry provides meals and a safe environment for urban kids during after-school hours. Coach Buske's husband, Pastor Jim Buske, is the director of this ministry. Please help us purchase food for this meals by participating in our bake sale NEXT FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 23rd. Thank you!! Look for follow up articles about the girls’ experience.

Living a Chocolate Life by Deb Burma invites us to savor God’s rich and endless supply of grace in Christ. Whether we're sampling bitter nuggets of pain or sweet morsels of joy, this study reminds us that the Holy Spirit fills us with sweet faith in our Savior – and it is only He who can truly satisfy. Join us on Wednesday mornings from 8:30 to 10:00 in the church Fellowship Hall. Fellowship begins at 8:00 and childcare is available. If you’re craving more information, contact Monica Gnat at (414) 774-6180 or [email protected].

Piano Lessons What a great 2nd week of lessons. The kids came back

having practiced a lot, which is great to see! If you haven't

done so at all yet, consider scheduling regular times into

each week where the kids can practice. I encouraged them

that it's much more likely to happen if they have a

planned time in their day--even if that's 10 minutes

before school or before bed. Thanks!~Mrs. Bortulin

Guitar Lessons

Tuesday guitar lessons with instructor Mr. Chris Krellwitz will generally take place in the Library or Art Room.

Soccer News: After a tough battle on a hot and sticky afternoon, the Crusaders’ soccer team pulled off a win in overtime this past Friday. Their next match-up is against St. Marcus Friday, September 16th at 4:15. Can they become a 3-0 team? We hope so! Good luck, boys!

~Coach Rindfleisch

Volleyball News:

A-Team: After three matches the A-team girls are 3-0 with 2 added wins against St. Marcus and Siloah. The girls have been working very hard in practice on pass, set and hit combinations, and we were able to use these skills a lot in our games and put together some great plays. Come out tonight and cheer us on as well play at home against St. Jacobi. Go Lady Crusaders!

~Coach Buske and Coach Schneiker

B-Teams: The B1 team had a great first tournament at St. Jacobi last weekend. The girls won most of their pool play games sending them to the bracket play that evening. They had to defeat St. Jacobi to get into the championship. They lost their first set but fought hard to come back and win the second. We fell short in the third match losing by 3 points. It was an exciting game. Great job Crusaders! The B1 is playing at home on Tuesday against Siloah and they face St. Jacobi again on Thursday at home. This week the B2 is excited to get their season going playing their first game against Loving Shepherd on Tuesday and against St. Philips on Thursday. Good luck Crusaders!

~Coach Leyrer and Coach Treichel

Cross Country: Wow!!! What a way to start the cross country season! Our first meet was last night at Star of Bethlehem. Upper Grade Spelling Bee The students in grades 5-8 completed a 50 word qualifying test for the Principal’s Conference Spelling Bee. Mrs. Rindfleisch sent the results to a committee who will choose the top spellers from our conference of schools. Seventy-five spellers from each grade level will be given the opportunity to participate in a spelling bee at Wisco on the morning of October 1st. The spelling bee committee will email the list of participants to Mr. Uecker on Friday, September 23rd. Mrs. Rindfleisch will send a letter home with the students who are chosen to represent St. John’s and their Savoir.

Teen Writing Opportunities Mrs. Rindfleisch has presented two writing opportunities to her composition classes. The first one is to writing contest for students in grades 6 -8 and offered by Patriot’s Pen. The task is to write a 300-400 word essay on the theme, “The America I Believe In.” Prizes are awarded for winning entries including $5,000 and a trip to Washington, DC for the first place piece. Mrs. Rindfleisch has paper copies of the entry form in her classroom or you can read more about this opportunity at www.vfw.org/PatriotsPen. The second is a chance to become a published author for the magazine, Forward in Christ. The magazine is looking for teens to submit Christ-centered articles that will help peers or provide encouragement for other teens. Articles should be about 650 words and will be printed in a bimonthly column called Teen Talk. This is not limited to our 7th and 8th graders. So, if you have high school children that would like to submit an article, please pass the information on to them. Students can submit their stories by emailing [email protected]. If an article is selected and published, the author will receive the standard one-page payment of $75. Examples of past Teen Talks as well as submission forms are available online. Some students have shown an interest in these opportunities, but Mrs. R. is seeking additional support and encouragement from home. She is willing to assist in proofreading, editing, and submitting the writing pieces on behalf of the students. Please talk to Mrs. Rindfleisch if you have any questions.

Lutheran Girl Pioneers Girls in grades 1-5 are invited to join St. John’s Lutheran Girl Pioneers which generally meets from 6:30-8pm on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month. Please watch for a letter to come home with the girls. Upcoming dates/events: September 20th (Game Night), October 4th

(Campfire & S’mores) and October 18th (Bowling).

Concessions at “Snowmobile Show” Saturday, October 15th (10am-7pm) Are you interested in getting to know a few more people from St. John's and working together for a common goal?..............St. John's will be staffing a concession stand at State Fair Park for the “Snowmobile Show” on Saturday, October 15th. (NO PREVIOUS TRAINING REQUIRED!). The hours are as follows: Saturday, Oct. 15 (Show from 10am-7pm) We will need to staff approximately 10 people starting at 9am. From our experience with this and other similar shows, it will be quite busy from about 10:30-6pm! Similar events that we have done at State Fair Park, such as “World of Wheels” and the “Sports Show” have proven to be a great earnings opportunity for St. John's. Last year was the first year that we did the “Snowmobile Show” earning $1355 for the day. We are checking on the possibility of adding Friday and/or Sunday for this weekend, and I will keep you posted. So check your schedules and join us for some fun and fellowship! (It will be a “Cool Change” from this week! If you are available to help for a half day, great! If you are only available to help for a couple of hours, that would be greatly appreciated also!! K3 News It has been an exciting week in K3 as the children have been learning about their 5 senses and bodies. We have practiced a chant called, “Let’s Build a Body” that helped us identify the different parts of a body and how those parts go together. Each child had an opportunity to put a body part on the flannel board. We enjoyed a song called “Everybody Has A Face” sung to the tune of “Old McDonald Had A Farm.” Paper bag puppets helped the children guess each of the 5 senses. They used their sense of touch to identify items in the ‘feely bag’. We used our eyes and taste buds to identify the difference between salt and sugar. We worked very hard on the “Designed By God, I am Special” self-portraits. Please stop by our hallway where you will find them displayed! The beans that were put on wet paper towels have been a hit! The children usually observe the beans during snack time. They are patiently waiting for tiny sprouts! The children are looking forward to watching the beans grow into plants. In our Bible lesson we learned how God created the first man and woman who were perfect. We learned that God gave life to us and that we are wonderfully made. God wants us to take care of and enjoy the world he gave us as a blessing. We sang quite a few new songs including, ‘My God Is So Great,’ ‘God Made Me,’ and ‘Praise Him, Praise Him.’ Serving Jesus and His Lambs,
