OPS Diagnostics offers a comprehensive line of products to assist in the preparation and preservation of temperature-sensitive samples (e.g., primary and cultured cells, protein extracts, and RNA), which can be irreversibly damaged when allowed to warm or thaw.

CryoCooler™Product No. CG 08-07

Powered by liquid nitrogen, the CryoCooler™ provides a portable, cryogenic environment in which frozen samples and vials can be safely handled. The CryoCooler™ has a 6”× 5” well that can be used as a cryogenic work surface or accommodate a 5”× 5” standard cryogenic storage box. An adsorbent pillow lies beneath the work surface, which, once “charged” with liquid nitrogen, slowly releases cooling liquid nitrogen vapor. Once the chamber is fully charged with liquid nitrogen, it will maintain temperatures well below -130°C for up to 4 hours with the lid closed and 3 hours with the lid open.

CryoGrinder™ SystemProduct No. CG 08-10

An improvement on the traditionalmortar and pestle, CryoGrinder™tools retain the strength anddurability of porcelain, whileadapting to the scale of molecular biology.

The CryoGrinder™ mortar andpestle were specifically designed togrind small and difficult tissues at cryogenic temperatures.

Their small design allows for retrieval of homogenized sample without excessive sample loss.

The CryoGrinder System™ includes one CryoCooler™, eight CryoGrinder™ mortars, sixteen CryoGrinder™ pestles, two mortar racks and a rechargeable cordless wrench to assist in the grinding process.

Bacterial Freezing KitProduct No. CRY 162-03

The Bacterial Freezing Kit is a simple and convenient tool for preserving bacteria directly from culture. Each Kit contains two CryoStorage™ Boxes pre-filled with Bacterial Freezing Tubes arranged in a 9x9 format (81 Tubes, each). Each sterile, ready-to-use Bacterial Freezing Tube contains 3 mm glass beads and 225 µl of 30% glycerol, a well-known cryoprotectant.

To use, add 225 µl of culture broth with actively growing cells to each Bacterial Freezing Tube, mix, label, and freeze for later use. To reactivate frozen cells, use aseptic technique to remove bead(s), roll onto the surface of a suitable and sterile agar plate, and incubate. Immediately return Bacterial Freezing Tube with any remaining beads to the freezer to prevent thawing.

Bacterial Freezing MediumProduct No. CRY 125-04

An alternative to using the Bacterial Freezing Kit to preserve samples, this sterile, glycerol-based solution is designed to protect bacteria stored at temperatures from -20°C to below -130°C. Cultures may be concentrated or diluted in this ready-to-use solution.

To use, culture bacteria to mid/late log phase, pellet by centrifugation, decant and re-suspend in Bacterial Freezing Medium. Dispense into cryogenic vials and freeze.
