JURASSIC PARTSWay back in 1993, Mary Schweitzer made public a startlingdiscovery. She looked inside the bones of a T-Rex skeletonand found what looked like remaining soft tissue, whichshould not have been there because of the assumed 68million year age of the fossil. This find has since been verified, but still gains criticism. MARY SCHWEITZER

FURTHER DISCOVERIESMary Schweitzer was not the first scientistto report such a find. In 1966, Pawlicki,Korbel and Kubiak published an article inNature entitled: Cells, Collagen Fibrils andVessels in Dinosaur Bone. Modern analytictechniques were then undeveloped andthe apparent discovery of small bloodvessels etc could be written off ascontamination. Also, the emotive originsdebate was not an issue in the 1960s.Between 1993 and 2018, there have beena number of discoveries of soft tissue inbones from dinosaur fossils.

The above photograph shows bloodvessels in a dinosaur rib bone. In the study, the associated soft tissue (collagen) wasanalysed in situ using IR spectroscopy, toavoid contamination. In the words of theauthors, this study provided “undeniable, clear evidence that collagen and proteinremains were preserved inside theosteonal central vascular canals of thisearly dinosaur.” There is nowincontrovertible proof that collagen andprotein have been preserved in ostensiblyvery old specimens of dinosaur remains.

FOSSIL ORIGINSThe evidence of preserved tissue indinosaur remains begs the question of howold these specimens really are. Thecontroversy regarding these findings is dueto the fact that if the dinosaur remains are68Ma old, then no soft tissue shouldremain, having been destroyed by chemicaldecomposition and bacterial action. Thissuggests that these remains are muchyounger than this. If true, the wholeevolutionary timeline collapses since thefossil dating techniques will be invalidated. This is the real reason that many scientistsreject these research findings.

BURIED ALIVEThe existence of fairly complete dinosaurremains indicates that they were rapidlyburied and not subject to normalscavenging and decay, which would haveleft very little for us to find. The question is:“What could cause rapid burial and enablethe eventual skeletons to be intact andpreserved?”. The only sensible answer isthat a recent huge flood and the associatedmud and sediment engulfed the dinosaurs. This explains why, for example in Montanawhere Mary Schweitzer works, there aremany dinosaur remains found in one area.

CONCLUSIONSA recent global flood is recorded in theBible. At the time of Noah, God judgedmankind by sending a flood on the Earth. Thus the dinosaurs that we have discoveredwere buried alive and became extinct.Science eventually proves the Bible to becorrect, even if atheist scientists deny theevidence in front of their own eyes.

IMAGE: Dandelion seed photophilde CC BY-SA 2.0 Air vortex Dr Cathal Cummins, University of Edinburgh

Scientists at the University of Edinburghhave discovered the secret behind theamazing ability of dandelion seeds toseemingly float in the air. Each bunch ofbristles (pappus) contains around 100filaments. These make up only around10% of the area of the pappus.Nevertheless, the pappus produces fourtimes the drag of a solid disk of the sameouter area. How can this be possible? Theanswer lies in the clever design. Thebristles are arranged so that when thepappus falls, air flows between them andcreates a low-pressure vortex, like asmoke ring. This vortex travels above thepappus and yet is not attached to it, likean invisible companion that generates liftand prolongs the seed’s descent. Thisnewly found form of air bubble - which thescientists have named the separatedvortex ring - is stabilised by air flowingthrough it. The research team discoveredthat if the filament spacing is changed byeven 10%, the vortex destabilises. Theeditorial article in Nature states: “It’s anexample of how evolution can produceingenious solutions to the most finickyproblems, such as seed dispersal”. Thisis a puzzling statement as evolution is

supposed to be a process relying onchance, not ingenuity. I thought that onlyintelligent minds could produce ingeniousengineering designs. Perhaps if I couldmeet this person called Evolution…The Bible records in Genesis 1:11 thatGod said, “I command the earth to produceall kinds of plants, including fruit trees andgrain.” And that’s what happened.

NEW SCIENTIST 23 Jan 2019

A team of Chinese researchers hasfound very small fossils buried in rockswhich are claimed to be 600 million yearsold. These fossils closely resemble themodern comb jellies, Pleurobrachia. Theyare said to be the earliest animals everfound, and pre-date the fossils found inCambrian rocks which are claimed to be540 million years old. The Cambrian rocklayer is at the bottom ofthe so-called geologiccolumn and contains aplethora of fossils whichhave no apparentantecedents. This hasalways been a dilemmafor evolutionists as,according to Darwin’stheory, all organismsshould develop slowly. The Earth’s sedimentaryrock layers contain thebulk of all fossils andshould provide a recordof the development oflife, assuming of coursethat evolution is true. Thisnew fossil discovery does not, however, provide any real evidence for anevolutionary progression. These fossilsseem very similar to the modern combjellies and so there is no apparentevolution. Maoyan Zhu of Nanjing Instituteof Geology and Palaeontology comments:“The discovery won’t radically alter ourknowledge of life before the Cambrianexplosion – the sudden appearance ofmany kinds of animal fossils about 541million years ago. We know that theancestors of modern species must haveappeared long before this time – it is just

that nobody has found them yet.” Thisshows the blind faith of evolutionists whosay species “must have appeared”.

If a true biblical approach is used then thewhole picture becomes clear. Thesedimentary rock layers were depositedonly thousands of years ago at the time ofNoah’s flood. This means that theCambrian fossils are the first, lowest levelof deposition and do not represent a

historical picture of life. This latest fossil find isonly part of this process.Other fossils have beenfound which are“exquisitely preserved”;this is possible becauseof rapid burial of thespecies in floodconditions and the youngage of the fossils. Therecent fossil finds showwell preserved features:“Microscopic analysisrevealed what appear tobe tentacles, muscletissue, nerve cells, gonads, mucous layers

and clusters of hairlike-structures calledcilia”. When scientists reject the teachingin the Bible, that God created life, thenthey have to cling to a so-called theorywhich has no good evidence base. Itcannot explain the existence of “livingfossils”, such as Pleurobrachia.

The book of Genesis in the Bible recordsthe creative power of God who designedand made all the fascinating life forms thatwe see around us in the natural world. Theworldwide flood that created these fossilsis also clearly described.

600-MILLION-YEAR OLD BLOBS ARE EARLIEST ANIMALS EVER FOUNDFossils in China suggest that that some of the first animals in existence may have

been carnivorous comb jellies similar to some species that still exist today.

LIFE’S SECRET INGREDIENT

“ ‘How does inanimate matter come to breathe, thrive and reproduce? Explaining this magicmeans overhauling nature’s laws’, saysphysicist Paul Davies.

‘It is easy to list life’s hallmarks: reproduction, harnessing energy, responding to stimuli andso on. But that tells us what life does, not whatit is. It doesn’t explain how living matter can dothings far beyond the reach of non-livingmatter, even though both are made of the sameatoms’.

‘The fact is, on our current understanding, lifeis an enigma’ .”

“many scientists recognise the equation ‘life = matter + information’.”

Professor Paul Davies is a well knownphysicist who has now turned his attentionto biology, and has realised that a purelychemical or physical description of life isinadequate. What has caused this? Hisstudies have shown him that even a singlecell has to be described in terms of codedinformation and information transfer. Merechemical reactions cannot account for thecomplex operation of cellular machinery, which relies on the information in the DNAto function. Professor Davies uses theexample of a kinesin transporter which“cheats” the 2nd law of thermodynamicsby using “information” about molecular

bombardment. This whole view of life caneasily miss the point (and ProfessorDavies does miss the point in his article). He states: “The really tough questionis how life’s hardware can write its ownsoftware”. He tries to think of informationas a physical quantity that evolved, without realising that specific codedinformation requires an intelligent source.Who is the source of this information?Francis Crick, the co-discoverer of DNA,thinks that an advanced alien speciesseeded life on Earth - but who seededthem? Ultimately we must return to therecord of supernatural creation found inthe book of Genesis in the Bible. Thisstates: “In the beginning God createdthe Heavens and the Earth”. Ch1 V1.Only God could design and create theUniverse and life and make people whoare living beings, not just chemicalmachines. We should stand in awe of thecreator God who designed and made us.He alone is the source of the incrediblycomplex information that is in life.

HOW HUMAN BEINGS EVOLVED TO BECOME BOTH SHOCKINGLYVIOLENT AND SUPER COOPERATIVE

New Scientist 13 February 2019

“The origins of our paradoxical naturelie in murder and self-domestication. It'sa weird story that may even explain whyour species came into existence…Are humans, by nature, good or evil? The question has split opinions sincepeople began philosophising.”

“Both our “angelic” and “demonic”tendencies, therefore, depended fortheir evolution on the sophisticatedforms of shared intentionality madepossible by high-level language – anability that undoubtedly alsocontributed to much pro-socialbehaviour.”

RICHARD WRANGHAM

THE MURDER OF YAROPOLK

Dr Richard Wrangham, a primatologist who is Ruth B. Moore Professor of BiologicalAnthropology at Harvard University, has written three books: The Demonic Male,Catching fire and The Goodness Paradox - his latest publication. He has attempted, inhis latest book, to propose causes for the co-existence of “good and evil” in humans.Professor Wrangham has spent a lifetime studying the behaviour of apes and monkeys.Using the results of his studies he has effectively anthropomorphised primate behaviour, using evolutionary assumptions. This has been done as a way of attempting tounderstand the propensity of human beings for violence and also for selfless behaviour.By default this introduces moral value judgements e.g. that killing and violence are“bad” and “wrong”. In an evolutionary world where only the “fittest” survive, the conceptsof right and wrong have very little meaning. Killing is simply ending a certain set ofchemical reactions - because that is all we are.

IMAGES: The murder of Yaropolk, public domain. Richard Wrangham, Bengt Oberger CC BY-SA 4.0

The biblical view is very different: God createdmankind ex-nihilo as living beings, and gave us thecapability of understanding right and wrong, good andevil. Genesis Ch3 records the original sin of Adamand Eve, which has led to to death, violence, evil andpain. The paradoxical behaviour of humans cantherefore be understood as a conflict between ourinbuilt, God-given, moral sense and our fallen (sinful)nature. We instinctively know what is basically rightand wrong but we just cannot live up to all our ideals. This is the reason for the Christian faith - we cannotsave ourselves. We cannot “evolve” to be better. OnlyJesus Christ has the power to change us from theinside.

ATHEISTS MUST BELIEVE IN MIRACLES

Ask any atheist and they will tell you: The miracles in the Bible are justfairy stories and myths. Science has shown that water does not turn intowine and dead bodies do not come back to life!

Ask any atheist and they will tell you: Life was not created by God. It wasa serendipitous chemical accident, a lucky roll of the cosmic dice.

If only life were so simple!

The chemical nature of life is extremelycomplicated. Even the most “basic” livingcell, i.e. a bacterium, contains hugebiopolymers and nano-machines. A cell, which is the most fundamental unit of alllife, cannot just be thrown together using ahandful of simple chemicals. Apart from theDNA, which contains the program andinstruction set for the cell, there arenumerous protein molecules. Theseproteins are made from chains of sub-unitscalled amino acids.L-Aspartic-acid-zwitterion, an amino acid

IMAGES: Amino acid, Jynto CCO 1.0 Protein, public domain image

What is so special about proteins?

There is a group of 20 different aminoacids which are used to make proteinmolecules in cells. Cells actuallymanufacture protein molecules based oninstructions coded into their DNA. Firstly,a very long string of specific amino acidsmust be joined in the correct order usingthe DNA assembly instructions. Eachparticular amino acid structure is codedin the DNA. These are each synthesisedin the cell and then joined up in order. Here comes the clever part: This longmolecule is now folded into a precise 3Dshape. The shape of the proteindetermines how it behaves in the cell andhow it performs its function. Each proteinis unique. A typical bacterial proteinconsists of well over 200 amino acid unitsin a precise sequence. The question is:How did this precise sequence originate?

Ribosomal protein shownas a schematic 3D structure

8

How to make a protein

2

Collect the set of the 20 amino acids needed to make proteins. Be careful here notto choose an amino acid from all the others (hundreds) that are possible.

Attach the second amino acid to the first one, ensuring that the chirality is correctand that the peptide bond will not immediately break due to the presence of water.

1

3

Decide on the number of amino acid sub-units in the protein. This will be at least100 but could be as many as 500.

4

Carefully work out which particular amino acid must be placed at each location inthe protein chain, to enable it to fold correctly and to bond externally.

8

Find some means of holding the assembled linear protein chain in place.5 Put the first amino acid in place, and then select the second one.6

Once the linear chain is complete, check that it is homochiral (all LH enantiomers)and that the amino acid order is correct.

7 Select the third amino acid and proceed as before. Repeat for all others.

9 Now start the folding process. This must be done very carefully in stages so thatthe final protein has the correct shape for its function. Ensure that the linear chaindoes not break during this process, and that the handling of the nascent protein iscarefully done as the weak bonds that attach chain points are also easily split.

10 Carefully check the protein shape and store at the correct temperature in asuitable environment pending use in cell manufacture.

Ask any atheist and they will tell you: These 10 steps are so straightforward that theyMUST have happened by accident when the first living cell assembled itself by accident.

The probability of finding a correct protein sequence by chance is very small.

…....150 units

Multiplying these individual choice probabilities together givesa staggeringly low overall probability of a correct linear proteinsequence of amino acids forming by chance.

1 1 1 1 ........20 20 20 20

The probability has been estimated at one in16410 [10 multiplied by itself 164 times]

In context, there are probably about 1080 particles in the Universe, and this hasexisted for about 1017 seconds, according to the Big Bang theory.

If every single particle in the Universe tried to make a protein 1000 times asecond, there would be only 10100 attempts since time began - not enough!!!

The formation of a protein by chance would indeed be a miracleof the first order. Atheists believe in miracles.

We at CSM believe what God revealed in the Bible (Genesis Ch 1). He created life. Healso gave his son, Jesus Christ, the power to turn water into wine and to raise the deadand to heal those who were blind. Atheists remain blind - to the wonderful creativepower of God who designed the complex biochemistry of life. 9

HOW BELIEF IN PUNITIVE GODS MAY HAVE HELPED LARGESOCIETIES COOPERATE

New Scientist 6 March 2019“Belief in punitive gods may have helped humans cooperate across largersocieties by uniting distant populations into a cohesive group.

How humans started to cooperate on large scales is a long-standing question. To see how religions may have played a role, Martin Lang at Harvard Universityand his colleagues recruited 2228 people from Asia, Africa and South Americawho practised Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, animism or ancestor worship.

The participants had to play a game where they were given coins to allocateinto two cups. The cups were labelled differently each time they were asked tochoose. These labels included themselves, a local of the participant’s ownreligious group, another member of the same group who lives far away, and amember of a different religion.

When asked to place a coin in one of the two cups, everyone tended to givemore coins to themselves or local members of the same religion than to others. But these choices differed depending on how highly each participant rated howpunitive they believed their god to be.”

LIGHTNING BY AXEL ROUVIN PUBLIC DOMAIN IMAGE

10

The above example of so-called scientificresearch, based on putting coins intocups, could be a source of muchamusement if it were not published in areputable journal and taken seriously byits authors and many readers. Theoriginal research paper abstract states:

“The emergence of large-scalecooperation during the Holocene remainsa central problem in the evolutionaryliterature. One hypothesis points toculturally evolved beliefs in punishing, interventionist gods that facilitate theextension of cooperative behaviourtoward geographically distant co-religionists.”

There is a huge assumption implicit in thishypothesis, which is that humanbehaviour can be subject to anyevolutionary process. There is zeroevidence that heritable geneticinformation in any way determineshuman social and religious behaviour. What is a “culturally evolved belief”?!This is another attempt by biologists withan interest in anthropology to dress upsimple game playing as real science. Anyobserved correlation between choicesmade and a “ monitoring and punishing”god is meaningless, as any othercommon belief or prejudice could be usedto link population groups.

The more interesting point is that theauthors of this paper should choose tothink about a god who may be a harshcontrolling tyrant. Why not think about agod who is kind and benevolent, whowishes to unite people in a cooperativecaring society? Clearly, the authorsregard these “gods” as a construct ofhuman imagination and further regardthem as a product of so-called primitivesocieties who have not yet developed ourmodern science and technology.

The

The god or gods that the authors cite israther obviously a hollow caricature of the“Old Testament” God of the Bible. Theyhave this vague undefined notion of agod whose only motivation is to punishhumanity if it steps out of line. Theyregard human beings as being motivatedonly by fear when interfacing with god.

The authors have obviously not read theBible in any depth, otherwise they wouldrealise that when YHVH dealt with hischosen people Israel, he gave themchoices - leading to blessings or curses.

Even more worrying is that the God of theNew Testament is not even considered. They have not understood that the Godrevealed in the Bible is not just a God ofjudgement but also of love and mercy. The rapid growth of the Christian faith inthe first century after Jesus came, cannotbe attributed to fear of a punitive God.The words of Jesus in John’s gospel ringtrue:

“For God so loved the world that he gavehis one and only Son, that whoeverbelieves in him shall not perish but haveeternal life. For God did not send his Soninto the world to condemn the world, butto save the world through him”.

Punitive, harsh gods only exist in theimagination of people who have notencountered the real God of the Bible.

IS RELIGION GOOD OR BAD FOR HUMANITY?EPIC ANALYSIS DELIVERS AN ANSWER

A scientific review of 10,000 years of history is finally revealing the unexpectedtruth behind religion's role in human civilisation.

New Scientist 20 March 2019 Harvey Whitehouse

As with all secularanthropological studies, this one assumes that“Big Gods” are a humanconstruct used byleaders to keep thepopulation in check, andto enforce rules ofbehaviour. All religionsare lumped together as ameans of achievingsocial cohesion. Theliving God of the Bible is

not even considered. This shows a profoundmisunderstanding of theChristian faith, and theneed for objective moralstandards given by Godfor our benefit, asopposed to expedientrules invented to controlsociety by political andreligious leaders. Howblind are those who donot know the living God?

“RELIGION has given us Bach’s cantatasand pogroms, algebra and the SpanishInquisition. The debate over whetherreligion lifts humanity higher or brings outour basest instincts is ancient and insome ways reassuringly insoluble. There are so many examples oneither side. The last word goesto the most erudite – untilsomeone more eruditecomes along. The latestround of the eternalconundrum was triggeredby the seeminglyreligiously inspired 9/11attacks in the US, afterwhich “new atheists” rose toprominence. The likes ofevolutionary biologist Richard Dawkinsand neuroscientist Sam Harris argue thatrational beings following the evidencemust inevitably conclude that religion isharmful. They, in turn, have beenaccused of cherry-picking their evidence.”

“So what about Big Gods? Were theyrequired for societies to scale up? Inresearch just published in Nature, alarge interdisciplinary team of scholarsincluding Patrick Savage at Keio

University, Tokyo, François,Turchin and me used Seshat

to test this idea. Wemeasured socialcomplexity using 51markers – such aspopulation size and thepresence of abureaucracy or money –

and found that in almostall of the regions we analysed,

moralising gods were adoptedmuch later than expected. Instead of

helping foster cooperation as societiesexpanded, Big Gods appeared only aftera society had passed a threshold incomplexity corresponding to apopulation of around a million people. This happened first in Egypt…”

The Scream is one of the most famouspaintings of the 20th century. Peoplehave thought it was of a personscreaming. However, the artist, ThomasMunch, originally named his painting‘The scream of nature’. He recalled thathe had gone out for a walk at sunset. The setting sunlight turned the cloudsblood red. He sensed an ‘infinite screampassing through nature'. A black andwhite lithograph of the picture will beshown at an exhibition at the BritishMuseum. The lithograph, unlike thecoloured works, has an inscription byMunch that reads: “I felt the greatscream throughout nature.” GiuliaBartrum, curator of a forthcomingexhibition, is reported to have said thatit is of a person who “feels the sensationof nature screaming all around him”.

The Fall recorded in Genesis explainsthe great pain and suffering we seearound us, so often graphically shown innature films. This suffering world iswhere God came and took the sufferingupon himself and to call followers untilall things are made new (Revelation 21)and when the wolf will live with the lamband the leopard will lie with the younggoat and nothing will hurt or destroy onGod’s holy mountain (Isaiah 11).

Until then, as the artist Munchexperienced, we know that the whole ofcreation groans and suffers in paintogether until now, as the apostle Paulwrote in his letter to the Romans(chapter 8).

NASA CAPTURES THE BIRTH OF A STAR IN STUNNING HUBBLE PICTUREMETRO 19 February 2019

“Our @NASAHubble Space Telescopecaptured the smoking gun of a newbornstar. Stars are born in dark clouds of gasand dust. But star formation is anenergetic process, and newly-formedstars can send out a brilliant display oflights called Herbig-Haro objects. Theseobjects form as jets of hot gas spewed bythe newborn star collide with thesurrounding matter at high speeds. In thisimage, these five objects can be seen atthe top centre as bright blue streakstravelling away from the star that createdthem at 150,000 miles per hour, towardsthe upper left.”

“The space-based telescope has caught on camera the moment a star is born.”

NASA says:

IMAGE: NASA PUBLIC DOMAIN

IMAGE: PUBLIC DOMAIN

The above photograph is superb and showshow good the HST is. It shows jets of gas froman accretion disc colliding with gas clouds, causing the observed luminosity. The precisemechanism that gives rise to the jets is not fullyunderstood by astrophysicists, and HH objectscan be produced by stars (assumed to beyoung) or by what are termed “proto stars”. Thetruth is that no astronomer has ever seen a starstart to shine. HH objects are simply assumedto be associated with “new” stars. Newspaperheadlines, which say that NASA has capturedthe birth of a star, are basically fallacious. NASAclaims that these observed luminous clouds arethe result of star SVS13 sending out jets of gas.Perhaps they are, but this does not mean thatstars are being “born” out there. The first starsshould not have formed! When a gas cloud(above the Jeans mass) contracts due togravity, it heats up. This prevents furthercollapse. External input is needed if a star is toform. All this hype from NASA about a “smokinggun” is simply said to validate the Big Bangmodel and the idea that the first stars could formnaturally. They could not, and we live in acreated Universe not an accidental one. 14

“We have found more than 4000 planets orbiting distant stars, but it turns outthat probably none of them have the right conditions for life to evolve, makingEarth even more special than we thought”.“But just being technically habitable does not mean that a world has the rightconditions for life to arise”.“This shows just how difficult it is likely to be for life to arise”.Our Earth is a very special planet. Thelocation and conditions are just right for abiosphere to exist and for human life to bepossible. The conditions may be quiteunique in the Universe! These are:

● Stable, yellow, single star system.● Right position in the galaxy.● Stable, circular planetary orbit.● Planet orbit in the Goldilocks zone.● Correct size rocky planet.● Planet spin at the correct rate.● Magnetosphere to protect the surface.● Oxygenated, stable atmosphere.● Oceans and rain.● A moon of the right size and orbital

distance.Finding a planet with exactly the rightcombination of features is probably a near

impossibility. Over half the planetarysystems in our galaxy are twin starsystems. Even if a planet is discovered tobe in the habitable (Goldilocks) zone, there is no guarantee that there will bemuch liquid water on the surface. Thecomplete set of necessary conditions isvery restrictive indeed. In addition, theprobability that raw chemicals will selfassemble to make living cells is as nearto zero as one can calculate. It is a veryfair conclusion, true to the facts, thathuman life on planet earth is unique in theUniverse. The only realistic inference fromthe facts is that our planet and life werecreated and designed. The Bible recordsthis in Genesis Ch1: “ In the beginning,God created the heavens and the Earth.”

INCREDIBLE FOSSIL FIND MAY BE FIRST VICTIMSOF DINO-KILLER ASTEROID

New Scientist 2 April 2019“After the flood”

“A remarkable fossil deposit found in North Dakota seems to offer an unprecedentedrecord of the mass extinction that many think wiped out the dinosaurs 66 millionyears ago. The fossils appear to be animals including fish that were killed withinminutes of an asteroid striking the Earth, in a flood triggered by the shattering impact. The sediments contain tektites: tiny pieces of natural glass formed in meteoriteimpacts, with chemical profiles matching the Chicxulub meteorite.”

FOSSILISED FISH FOUND AT THE HELL CREEK FORMATION, NORTH DAKOTA

The words of the New Scientist articlequoted above bring home the truth of theGenesis account of the global flood. TheChicxulub meteorite impact was so huge(the equivalent of a billion Hiroshimabombs) that it probably ejected over 1.6x 1011 kg of debris into the atmosphere. Some of this would be molten lava whichthen rained down as small solidifiedglobules called tektites.

These have been found embedded inthe gills of the fossilised fish. These fishwere then rapidly buried in sediment, hence the virtually complete state ofpreservation. This meteor impact wasso huge and devastating that its effectswould have been truly global. Manyscientists believe that this was thetrigger for global flooding and pollutionthat wiped out the dinosaurs.

IMAGE: Robert DePalma/University of Kansas public domain 16

THE CHICXULUB METEORITEScientists estimate that about 66 million yearsago a meteorite at least 11 km in diameter, andwith a mass of at least 1015, kg hit the Yucatanpeninsula in Mexico. This was an extinction levelevent. The sheer energy of this collision wouldhave caused global atmospheric pollution, tsunamis and widespread disruption of theEarth’s crust. It could have triggered Noah’sflood. It also left a tell tale signature in the rocks.

In 1980, physicist Luis Alvarez and hisson (geologist Walter Alvarez) studied theK-T boundary around the world. Theyfound that it had between 30-130 timesthe amount of iridium you would expect.Iridium is rare on Earth, but it can still befound in large concentrations in asteroids. When they compared the concentrationsof iridium in the K-T boundary, they foundit matched the levels found in meteorites. This proves that the Chicxulub meteorevent was global. The 66 Ma dating ofthis event is open to debate: if there wasa truly global flood, then the sedimentaryrock layers would have been rapidlydeposited and Chicxulub is a very recentevent.

“Roughly three in four species perished in what's called the Cretaceous-Paleogeneextinction, also known as the K-Pg event or K-T extinction. The killer asteroid mostfamously claimed the dinosaurs. But T-rex and Triceratops were joined by hordes ofother living things. Freshwater and marine creatures were victims, as were plants andmicro-organisms, including 93 per cent of plankton.” Washington Post March 19.

NOTE: The K-T boundary is the dividing layer between the Cretacious and the Tertiary rock layers. Thisis now called Cretaceous-Paleogene.

The account in the Bible of Noah’s ark andthe flood used to be dismissed as a myth byso-called enlightened scientists. Now thereal evidence is being discovered that showsa global catastrophe and rapidly buried fishand animals. Good science backs up theBible, and shows the truth of God’s word -how he did indeed judge mankind but savedNoah, his family and the animals.

HOW THE ZEBRA GOT ITS STRIPES:THE PROBLEM WITH 'JUST-SO' STORIES

New Scientist 22 February 2019 Michael Marshall

IMAGE: Zebra André Karwath CC BY-SA 2.5

“When it comes to explaining whyzebras have stripes, it’s best toremember that some issues are notblack and white. Biologists have beendebating the puzzle since Darwin’stime, but a study published onWednesday offers further evidence forone of the most promisingexplanations: that the stripes deterbiting flies”.

The author of this NS article has thehonesty to admit that evolutionarybiologists make up stories to convincethemselves and others that evolution isreally true. The case in point here is thezebra, a beautiful animal with vivid blackand white stripes. The received wisdom(if you can call it that) was that zebrasgradually developed stripes as a means

of camouflage. However, recent researchuncovers an interesting alternative:

“Davis tracked captive zebras andhorses at a site in England. Horsefliescircled round both, but they landed onhorses significantly more often. Puttingstriped coats on the horses’ bodiesmeant the horseflies landed there lessoften – but still landed on their heads, which were uncovered. The implicationis that the stripes were having a realeffect”.

This may be true, but perhaps zebrashave stripes because God created themto be visually stunning and captivating.Evolution could only ever produce basefunctionality, but only a gifted creator Godcould produce beauty.

WHAT WE BELIEVECSM exists to help Christians and non-Christians understand that we live in a createdUniverse. We believe that the Bible is the revealed word of God and that the teaching inGenesis is accurate. God created the material Universe and then he created organic life, culminating in the creation of mankind. He endowed men and women with souls and gavethem free will. This allowed the first humans to go against God’s instructions, leading to afallen world. God sent his son, Jesus Christ, into the world to reunite us with him. Jesus paidthe penalty for man’s rebellion and wrongdoing by dying on a Roman cross. We only haveto turn to God and ask for forgiveness for him to accept us.

CSM rejects evolutionary teaching as it is false, misleading and unscientific. We endeavourto present the scientific evidence that shows the truth of God’s word, that we live in a Universeand world designed and created by God.

The creation conference at the RegisSchool in Bognor Regis was wellattended. There was a very positiveresponse to the speakers who gaveinteresting and thought provoking talks. The organisers have made recordingsof the talks which will be available onDVD. When these are ready for sale wewill provide a website link. Any churchgroup wishing to host a creationconference should contact CSM.
