Preliminary Step: Registration1. Register at CSUN eCommons (enter e-mail & password; create profile) 2. Notification e-mail will be sent to user to complete registration process3. Once registration is completed, user will be added as SUBMITTER (EPeople)

to the collection and will have logon and authorization to add items to the collection

Item Submission Process: INITIAL QUESTIONS1. For Multiple titles (e.g., alternative title), select box, if appropriate2. For this collection, select “Published” to add default Publisher (California State University, Northridge) 3. Click Next

Item Submission: DESCRIBE (Page 1)Follow Learning Objects Metadata Guidelines

• Enter AUTHOR• For Personal Authors, enter Last Name,

First Name• For departments, offices, input name in

the Last Name box • Click Add to input additional authors

• Enter TITLE• If Multiple Titles selected in Initial

Questions step, input additional title in “Other Titles” box

• Enter DATE OF ISSUE• Enter year (leave month and day blank,

if unknown)

• IDENTIFIERS (Optional)• Select “Other” • Input course number (e.g., Astronomy

152)

• Select TYPE(S) • Select AUDIENCE

• Select LANGUAGE as appropriate (e.g., English (United States))

• Add SUBJECT KEYWORDS Enter subject keywords or

phrases. Click Add to input additional

subject keywords/phrases. Note: Use one box for each

subject keyword or phrase.

• Provide DESCRIPTION

• Click Next

Item Submission: UPLOAD1. Click Browse to upload file(s)2. Leave file Description blank3. For multiple files, click Upload file & add another4. Click Next

Item Submission: REVIEW

• Review submission (e.g., metadata elements)

• To make corrections, click “Correct one of these”

Note: This is the only step in the submission process where submitter can make changes to the record.

Item Submission: CREATIVE COMMONS1. Option to select a Creative Commons license (under

construction)2. Skip this step3. Click Next

“...Creative Commons allows you to identify the license to be used with the item you are submitting, so people can know what they're allowed to do with your work. This form is optional, and you can skip it if you wish to retain your full copyright.” (DSpace MIT FAQ)

Item Submission: LICENSE1. Review and accept Deposit License 2. Check “I Grant the License” box

3. Click Complete submission • Deposit License to be

reviewed and accepted by submitter.

• Deposit License allows CSUN eCommons to store, distribute and preserve your work. No copyright transfer is involved.

• CSUN eCommons does not require you to give up your copyright. It only requires that you agree to the Deposit License.
