CTEK retains Auto Express ‘Best Battery Charger’ crown
MXTS 70 proves a big hit
CTEK is pleased to confirm that the CTEK MXS 3.6 has scooped the Auto Express ‘Best Battery Charger’ accolade for the fourth time, with the MXS 5.0 coming a close second.
The independent test has been adapted this year to match the growing abilities of today’s chargers, so as well as checking the build quality and performance of the chargers Auto Express looked at user safety too. Both awards are testament to the unique multi-stage charging characteristics and safety of the product that are incorporated across our entire range of smart chargers.
The Auto Express best buy logo (shown right) can also be used by distributors and stockists on point of sale or other promotional material. For further information please call Katharine Parker on 07974 141266 or email [email protected]
During November CTEK officially launched the MXTS 70 to the automotive trade media resulting in coverage in Car and Accessory Trader magazine, Aftermarket magazine and Professional Motor Mechanic Magazine to name a few, a really favourable product review was also featured in Commercial Vehicle Workshop. The MXTS 70 was well received by both journalists and industry professionals with particular interest shown in its capability to provide up to 70A of battery support when flash programming work is being undertaken.

Ihad read about the CTEK product in
a previous issue of the magazine and
I was thoroughly looking forward to
it arriving so I could get my hands on it
and see just how good it actually was. To
say it has been good would be an
understatement; I have been very
impressed with this product.
The first thing that I noticed when the
product was dropped off at the workshop
was that it comes in a very heavy duty
case. Once you have opened the case,
you then notice that the product itself has
a very rugged feel to it as well and it is
clear from the very beginning that this is
a product that has been designed with the
workshop environment in mind. You may
think that this is a slightly strange thing
to say, but I have used a number of
battery testers and chargers over the
years and a great number of them seem
to have been designed for aesthetic
reasons, rather than to actually work well
within the workshop.
Diagnostics benefit
The test therefore got off on the right foot
and it continued to impress. Within our
workshop and in fact most modern
workshops nowadays, there is an
increasing requirement to be able to
under-take flash programming, which
CTEK recently launched a solution that it hopes will
overcome battery support issues commonly
encountered by workshops. We decided to put the
product to the test to see if it would live up to the hype.
BATTERIES, ELECTRICS & LIGHTING Product Test
VERDICT:Overall this is a
fantastic product and one
that I would thoroughly
recommend.
8 step charge algorithm
STEP 1 – DESULPHATION
Pulsing voltage removes sulphates from the
lead plates of the battery, restoring the
battery capacity.
STEP 2 – SOFT START
Tests if the battery can accept charge.
Charging begins if the battery is OK.
STEP 3 – BULK
Charging with maximum current until
reaching approximately 80 % battery
capacity.
STEP 4 – ABSORPTION, READY TO USE
Charging with declining current to maximize
up to 100 % battery capacity.
STEP 5 – ANALYSE
Tests if the battery can hold charge.
Batteries that cannot hold charge may need
to be replaced.
STEP 6 – RECOND
Reconditioning function for deeply
discharged batteries.
STEP 7 – FLOAT, FULLY CHARGED
Maintaining the battery voltage at maximum
level by providing a constant voltage charge.
STEP 8 – PULSE, MAINTENANCE
CHARGING
Maintaining the battery at 95-100 %
capacity. The charger monitors the battery
voltage and gives a pulse when necessary
to keep the battery fully charged.

Following on from the successful launch of the CTEK product guide last year, CTEK is pleased to confirm that the 2012 guide is now available. Containing product information on the extensive range of 6, 12 and 24 volt smart chargers and accessories, the product guide also features information on CTEK’s approach to charging, product images, part numbers and descriptions and a user-friendly design; the product guide will also enable customers to easily identify the right product for their requirements.
Peter White, Sales and Marketing Manager (UK & Ireland) commented “Our A4 brochure style product guide is eye-catching and simple to use – we have been pleased by its popularity with customer facing sales staff. This latest version once again contains lots of useful information to assist staff in the sales process”

CTEK launches Comfort Connect -XLR to keep mobility scooters on the moveCTEK is pleased to announce the launch of the ‘Comfort Connect –XLR’ connector developed specifically to support the use of the CTEK MXT 4.0 24V charger with power chairs and mobility scooters. The launch of this connector follows research, undertaken as a direct
result of market demand for a smart battery charger that could quickly and efficiently 100% charge and maintain mobility scooter batteries – the XLR socket used on mobility scooters meant that prior to the development of the XLR adaptor CTEK chargers could not be used as easily.
Peter White, Sales & Marketing Manager (UK & Ireland) said “The feedback that we were getting was that mobility scooter owners needed an improved solution that would quickly and safely bring the battery up to 100% charge. Many chargers we tested were undercharging the batteries reducing both equipment
range and battery life. By not being charged to 100% capacity the mobility scooter battery will be cycled more often than necessary reducing capacity. Even worse, sulphation will occur, reducing capacity even further and shortening battery life significantly. Our research shows that by using a CTEK MXT4.0 24V charger, mobility scooter owners can extend the life of the battery by as much as three times as well as maximising capacity – the Comfort Connect -XLR connector now makes this simple.”

Do you remember in the last issue of CTEK news we ran a quiz where you had the opportunity to win a MXS 25 charger? Well CTEK is pleased to announce that the winner is Phil Wilkinson from McGanns A1 Motorstores who correctly answered all three questions.
This issue CTEK is offering three lucky readers the chance to win a MXS 5.0 charger and all you have to do is tell us what these battery related acronyms stand for:

Please e-mail your answers along with your name, telephone number and e-mail address to [email protected] – good luck!
And the winner is ...
CTEK out in the ‘field’One of the greatest drawbacks of agricultural machinery that stands idle for long periods of time is deterioration of the battery. There is nothing more inconvenient than being faced with a discharged battery just when the equipment is needed most!
The CTEK range of products combat this problem as their patented pulse maintenance feature means that a charger can be left attached to the battery indefinitely without risk of over, or under charging.
We have teamed up with Tractor & Machinery magazine and are working with ten Tractor and Machinery readers on a MXS 10 ‘test pilot’ to gain insight in to real usage experience. In December the test pilot participants started a six month product test and were provided with a MXS 10 charger and a Comfort Indicator with crocodile clips. At the end of the six month trial Tractor and Machinery magazine will be writing an article on the results of the test pilot – we will keep you updated on our progress.
