Wrapping up the year...
As I look back on another year in ministry with young people here at Christ the
King, I must start by saying what a privilege it has been once more. We really are
blessed to have lots of amazing young men and women, boys and girls in our
midst! Some of them are more involved than others—all of them at different parts of
their own faith journey—but all of them gifted and beautiful in their own way.
Term 4’s theme for the youth ministry has been from the Gospel of Matthew,
chapter 6; “Seek first the Kingdom of God.” We have been exploring—in both
fun and reflective—ways what it means to ‘Seek the Kingdom’ but also what sort of
King Jesus is, how can we trust in him and his providence, if we are to be his peo-
ple what does that mean for our lives, and how does it challenge our hearts, words
and actions. We have had some great input from our resident Seminarian Alister
Castillo, our fantastic Core team members, as well as guest speakers.
One of the exciting new elements to the Ministry this year has been the start of a
new Young Adults group for 18 to 35 year olds. The group generally meets weekly
on a Wednesday night but recently we had our first Young Adults Rally with Praise
and worship, an inspiring talk from Brendan Malone, a time of Adoration,
Reconciliation and Prayer, followed of course by some good social time for every-
one to catch up.
I will close by saying a big Thank You to everyone in the
community for your support for our young people, both
financial and prayerful. As I write this we are raising funds
for 15 Young People plus leaders to attend the LifeTeen
Catholic Summer Youth camp in the North Island and
people have been very generous. That generosity is
reflected in the vibrant, faith filled youth community that we
are growing here at Christ the King.
May God fill your Christmas season and the new year
ahead with abundant Blessings!

Our theme for this term is taken from Matthew’s Gospel: “Seek first the Kingdom of God.”
Antioch Camp Experience
Antioch Camp is a camp for Year 11-13 students that was held at Woodend Christian Camp. It was an amazing experience with talks, praise and worship, food, games and great people. The theme for the camp was ‘Made For Love’ and we learnt about what love is, how we are all called to love one another, and be loved.
On Friday evening we all got settled into the camp, played some great ice breaker games and had some awesome praise and worship with the CYT Music Team. It was here that we got to meet all the other campers and were able to get to know each other. Saturday was pretty full on! We had a whole bunch of talks, a panel discussion, games and Adoration and Praise and Worship. My favourite game (and a definite highlight for me) was ‘The Priest of the Parish’ which was a really fun and intense game. That evening we had Adoration which was a really deep and moving experience and the Praise and Worship after it was the best I had ever experienced. There was such a buzz in the air and everyone got really into it which made it so special. On the final day (Sunday) we had to clean and pack up before heading off home then we finished the camp with Sunday Mass. It was hard to leave after the amazing times we have had at camp and the friends that we had made. However it was really awesome when I got home
and everyone was able to keep in touch through Facebook and Youth Groups. Because of Antioch Camp, I have made so many friends, made some great memories and had time to deepen my relationship with God. We had so much fun over the course of this weekend and it was a truly amazing experience. If you’re thinking of coming to Antioch camp then you shouldn’t hesitate to come along next year!!
God Bless,
Fiona McKay

From CTK Core Team to Diocesan Mission Team 2016
The first time I went to the
Christ the King Youth Group
was in 2011, when I was in
my first year at university.
One of my flatmates was a
leader and she invited me
along. I really enjoyed it!
In 2014 I became a Senior
Core Team Leader and over
the years I have seen a
great change in the atmos-
phere of the Youth Group
and have also experienced a
spiritual growth in myself.
It’s amazing to see how the
Holy Spirit has moved over
the past year not only in the
young people here at Christ
the King but also in myself.
This year the Holy Spirit has
ignited in me a desire to work
with young people and help
them grow in faith, so I
applied—and was accept-
ed—for the Diocesan Mis-
sion Team in 2016. It is going
to be an exciting year and I
hope to see many of our
young people at the various
Diocesan CYT events!
Please continue to pray for
me as I begin my ministry on
the Diocesan Mission Team.
God Bless,
Jacob Fagan
Q & A with Christie (A Junior / Senior Core Team Leader)
What did you do this year? Recently I have just completed my First Year in a Bachelor of Applied Visual Arts at
CPIT. This involves all forms of hands-on creativity which I absolutely love and I hope
to someday be a full-time artist. I have also been involved in leading the 40 Days for
Life campaign here in Christchurch whilst also leading here at Christ the King in music
and as a Senior Core Team Leader. As well as these I have been growing in faith
through the CYT’s Young Adults Programme: The School of the New Evangelisation.
What have been your highlights this year?
Beginning the year with the Hearts Aflame Summer School really changed my life! The
Lord revealed his presence to me in a very real way. So much joy!! Among other
various camps and events I attended a Pro-Life Internship and Voice For Life
Conference. This equipped me with knowledge and hope for a change in our culture.
It’s been a rollercoaster year but one thing I think the Lord has taught me through
others is fearlessness in him. In him there is no fear and it’s amazing how perfectly
everything works out when you leave everything in the Lord’s capable hands.
What is the best Christmas gift you have received?
One year for Christmas my family brought a telescope. This was an awesome time as
our family got to look at the beauty of the stars on a clear night!
Any advice for our Young People in the Parish?
Appreciate the Eucharist! Luckily here in Christchurch we have Eucharistic Adoration
24/7. This is the pinnacle moment in which God is physically present and ready for
you to come visit and connect with him. If I am having a tough time, or am feeling like
life is just too crazy, I find just sitting with Love Himself fixes everything.
Favourite Quote?
I have too many! But this month the following scripture verse has really helped me
have courage.
“ But the Lord said to me, ‘Do not say that you are
too young, but go to the people I send you to, and
tell them everything I command you to say. Do not
be afraid of them, for I will be with you to protect
you. I, the Lord, have spoken!’ ”
Jeremiah 1:7 - 8

Seek: Young Adults Rally Suzzanah shares her experience of the Young Adults Rally
“Seek fist the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all else will be added
to you. So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring worries of its
own. Today’s trouble is enough for today” Matthew 6:33 -34
On the eve of the feast of Christ the King, young adults from Christchurch,
Auckland, Dunedin and Wellington gathered in our Parish Centre to worship God in
His fullness! Seeing and hearing everyone singing praises before the most
Blessed Sacrament, it was clear to see that the Catholic faith is far from dead.
Guest speaker Brendon Malone plunged us into the deep end with the exhilarating
challenge to live radially; according to God’s purpose. For truly, what could ever
be as thrilling as the plans of the Creator of the Universe!?
The invitation to surrender.
What else is so frightening and so compelling to us all at the same time?
The idea of the transformative work God could do in our lives should we open the
door to Him sends shivers shooting down my spine with excitement!
Then Jesus came in… literally!
The immense blessing of being able to worship through song before our Lord was
indescribable. As a singer myself, I especially enjoyed this part! Without romantic
pretense, there is something magnificently potent about singing as a form of
worship, and even more so! For That night we had the incredible opportunity to
sing at the very feet of our LORD! As Saint Augustine so famously said, “He who
sings prays twice.”
Adding to the blessings were the priests who made themselves available to
administer Sacramental Reconciliation. Thank you priests! This priceless ministry
of mercy enriched the souls of all who availed themselves of the opportunity, and
we were all so grateful for it!
For the 40+ young adults present, one thing above all else was abundantly clear…
Namely that: Jesus Christ TRULY IS King!
God Bless,
Suzzanah Fisk
