What is a Marionette?

A marionette is a puppet that is controlled by wires and/or strings.

A marionette’s puppeteer is called the manipulator.

History of the Marionette• Puppetry has been around very,

very long. Some scientists claim that puppets performed theatre before humans did.

• The idea of the Marionette came from Egypt as long ago as 2000 BC, when string operated wood figures were manipulated to preform kneading bread.

• Marionettes were buried in ancient tombs, and used at rituals and ceremonies to act out the life of the deceased person.
